Best RV Parks & Resorts near Montezuma, CO

Several RV parks near Montezuma provide full-service options for motorhome travelers. Tiger Run RV Resort in Breckenridge offers concrete pads with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The sites accommodate large vehicles with both back-in and pull-through configurations. "Sites are close to each other," noted one camper, "but the campground is located above Central City with great views." Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden features paved sites with full hookups, though some travelers report difficulty achieving level positioning despite the hard surfaces. Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground maintains 39 sites with big-rig friendly access, offering 30/50-amp electrical options and complete hookup services.

Mountain elevation affects several aspects of RV camping in this region. Many parks close seasonally, with Clear Creek RV Park in Golden operating only from May through September. Navigation to higher-elevation parks requires careful planning, as steep grades and tight turns can challenge larger motorhomes. Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with stronger signals near towns and limited or no connectivity in more remote locations. Dump stations are available at most established RV parks, though some smaller facilities may lack this amenity. Winter camping requires additional preparation, as temperatures frequently drop below freezing even in early fall. Propane service is available at select locations, with Tiger Run and Dakota Ridge offering on-site purchases.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

    Lone Rock Campground

    Line Rock review

We love this campground due to the river access. The do have potable water but it tastes pretty bad, so brIng drinking/cooking water. Most, if not all sites, have a picnic table and fire pit. During reservable season (Memorial Day to Labor Day I believe), the campground host usually has firewood for sale. No cell service, no electric. We hear that the cafe In Deckers may be getting wifi. The campground is open all year but the water is shut off in the winter. Sites are close to each other.

Clean restrooms and showers. Playground and dog friendly. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

    Gore Creek Campground

So good, I don’t want to tell you about it.

Gore Creek Campground is a true gem of the National Forest Service. If you are looking for a great boondocking location that is close to great trails and breathtaking views, this just might be the place for you. The entrance to the campground is ~2 miles off of I-70 Exit 180 on Bighorn Road. Only 10 minutes from Vail Village and 25 minutes from Frisco.

We stayed in Site #8, which provided plenty of room for our 22’ travel trailer and pickup. The sites each have a large picnic table and fire ring.

Pit toilets are spread through the campground and were very clean and well maintained. The campground hosts do a great job of keeping everything tidy and looking great. They also have bundles of firewood for sale for $7 at their site just inside the entrance to the campground.

I can’t say enough about this place. It’s probably my favorite spot to camp in Colorado. I almost didn’t post this review for fear of the secret getting out.

About 45 minutes from Grand Lake entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. 9 mile dirt road to get to the campground. Nice level sites each with picnic/tent area. Vault toilets were clean. No water fill, dump stations, showers or flush toilets. Hosts said the camp was packed from 4th July until Aug 20th

    Round Mountain

    Great area for OHV

    Round mountain campground

$20 per night. There are no electrical hook ups or sewer hook ups for big rigs. It looks a little bit like dispersed camping. Each site has a picnic table and a designated fire pit. The sites are pull through in some situations. Not all of them, but some of them. There are restrooms on site with your credibly clean. The camp management seems to do a good job of keeping the area well organized. It’s nestled down in the trees and he’s very pretty and secluded. The issue in this area is that it is all designated for OHV usage so there is some noise. We pulled it on a Thursday afternoon and could see three or four ATVs riding around. The campground has designated quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM, but that won’t stop you from getting disturbed during the daytime. The other issue in this area as there is no firewood. They sell bundles for eight dollars at the managers office. My recommendation would be to come well prepared and bring lots of your own firewood. At the time we got in their water pump was also not working, but they were selling bottled water again at the Campground managers station.

Deer Creek Campground — Golden Gate Canyon

    Truly Spectacular State Park

We visited Golden Gate Canyon in October 2020 and we were blown away with the natural beauty of this park. We stayed in Reverends Ridge Loop E Site 49. It was a pull through site, mostly level, and it easily accommodated our 20' truck still attached to our 30' travel trailer. The sites we saw were spaced apart generously. The park was quiet and family friendly. We only stayed for one night as we were passing through the area, but we would absolutely go back again and highly recommend it to others. One important note is that RVs can not enter through the entrance on HWY 46 at Mountain Base Road (we learned the hard way). The good news is the entrance is not far from there, but you may want to plan to enter off HWY 119 from the outset.

Guide to Montezuma

RV camping near Montezuma, Colorado requires careful preparation due to the high-altitude mountain terrain. Most campgrounds in this region sit above 9,000 feet, where temperatures can drop below freezing even in summer months. Cell service varies dramatically between campgrounds, with stronger signals available at larger RV parks near towns and limited connectivity in more remote locations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Clear Creek RV Park in Golden provides direct access to walking paths along the creek with multiple fishing spots. "There is so much to do at this location; aside from the sectioned off RV area, there are lots of paths and locals parks to adventure around. Our favorite is the fishing, so much fun fishing in all the different spots along the creek," notes one camper.

Gold panning: Middlefork RV Resort in Fairplay offers on-site gold panning for visitors. "This place has on-site gold panning! I can't give this place much praise but the gold panning did it for me! Long story short; Gold Panning and 25 mins from Breckenridge," reports a camper.

Winter activities: Many campgrounds near Montezuma provide access to winter sports. Tiger Run RV Resort stays open year-round and serves as a base for skiers. "Breckenridge Colorado's premier all season resort. Full service RV sites or mountain chalets (cabins) await you near Breckenridge Ski Resort, Copper Mountain, Keystone, A-Basin and Vail," writes one visitor.

What campers like

Accessible mountain towns: RV parks in this region provide easy access to historic mountain towns. "This campground allows easy access to Denver, Golden, and the foothills," notes a camper about Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Year-round facilities: Some RV parks maintain winter amenities. A Tiger Run visitor explains, "Two indoor hot tubs and a pool, private showers & changing rooms, and laundry. Just wish there was a dish washing station. Multiple segments of the Colorado trail are accessible right from the park."

Brewery access: Several campgrounds offer walkable access to local breweries. A Peak to Peak RV Park guest notes, "It was a minute walk from Knotted Root brewery and the rest of the town," highlighting Nederland's accessibility for campers without vehicles.

What you should know

Campground elevation impacts: High elevation affects RV systems and guest comfort. "Winter camping requires additional preparation, as temperatures frequently drop below freezing even in early fall," notes a camper at Middlefork RV Resort.

Limited connectivity: Many campground Wi-Fi systems struggle with bandwidth. "The wi-fi was barely usable, even for just using your phone, which is not unusual for a campground but still worth noting. Luckily our Verizon service consistently had 3-4 bars of 5G so we were able to use our jet pack for any internet needs," shares one Dakota Ridge visitor.

Water pressure concerns: Campgrounds in mountain areas often have high water pressure. "Be sure to have a water pressure regulator or you'll come back to a flooded RV," warns a camper from Applewood RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Entertainment options: Some RV parks offer extensive family facilities. Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain has multiple recreation options. "Beautiful campsite with pool, arcade, bowling, kayak rentals, awesome gym…so much more! The kids will be entertained here, and it's a short drive to Rocky Mountain National park," reports one visitor.

Bathroom quality: Families often prioritize clean bathroom facilities. "The bathrooms and showers were exceptional," notes a visitor to Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground, providing important information for families with young children.

Outdoor activities: Natural features provide entertainment at many campgrounds. "Tubing & swimming in the creek is wonderful especially in summertime," writes a Clear Creek RV Park camper about the adjacent waterway.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Mountain terrain creates leveling difficulties at many campgrounds. A Peak to Peak RV Park visitor notes, "Kind of a weird 'campground'. Never actually saw or met the owner/grounds keeper/anyone but reserved online. Was overpriced for the lot that it was but it was a minute walk from Knotted Root brewery and the rest of the town. Only has 50 amp plugs."

Sewer connection height: Some parks have unusual sewer connection configurations. "The sewer is 6 inches above grade and slinky support wasn't tall enough. You might be lifting your hose to assist emptying," warns an Applewood RV Resort camper.

Winter RV adaptations: Year-round parks require special preparations. "Not only was it one of few if not the only park open during the winter months but is located right in between Breckenridge, Keystone and A Basin. Vail is even less than an hour," explains a Tiger Run visitor, highlighting the need for cold-weather RV readiness.
