Description

National Forest

White River National Forest

Overview

At an elevation of 9,320 feet, Lowry Campground is located between Summit Cove and Breckenridge, Colorado in the White River National Forest. This campground is in close proximity to Dillon Reservoir and a handful of trails, making it an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation. Due to the pine beetle infestation and removal of hazard trees, there is little or no shade in the campground.

Recreation

Dillon Reservoir, often referred to as Lake Dillon, is the greatest draw to this campground, offering 26.8 miles of shoreline. It is an ideal spot for fishing, boating, and sailing. Anglers will find that the reservoir supports a healthy population of rainbow and brown trout, with an occasional cutthroat trout finding its way into the lake from feeder streams. Opportunities for hiking and biking include more than 7 paved miles of the 50-mile Summit County trail system. From the reservoir, the Old Dillon Reservoir trail is a favorite. This short, easy trail has spectacular views of the Tenmile Range and the Continental Divide. The Old Dillon Reservoir was built in the 1930s to supply water to the original town of Dillon, which is now covered by the new Dillon Reservoir.

Natural Features

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million acre White River National Forest is a place of serenity and adventure, boasting 8 wilderness areas, 4 defined seasons, and 10 peaks surpassing 14,000 feet in elevation. Described as being more vertical than horizontal, the nearby Eagles Nest Wilderness, designated in 1976, is a playground of craggy cliffs, sheer rock faces, alpine lakes, and deep, forested valleys. Visitors will find foot travel across this pristine area challenging and often strenuous, but will be rewarded with spectacular scenery. Wildlife in the area abounds. Bighorn sheep navigate rocky ridges and bull elk bugle at dusk. Scenic rivers sustain populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout. Alpine regions provide habitat for pika and ptarmigan. These species, along with many others, depend on surrounding undeveloped wilderness, clean streams, and diverse forests to live.

Nearby Attractions

Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain ski resorts are all located within 10 miles from Dillon Reservoir. These resorts stay open year round.

Sites are close

This place is one big cicle the sites are on top of each other so there is no privacy. I would not recommend this place unless it is just to pass through or you plan on spending little time there. There is a large trailer when entering that the staff use so lot of traffic through there. The water is yellow a d has a weird smell. Bring drinking water. There is no hook-up for water if you are an RV'er

A great but busy location

Location and views were amazing, but the place was near full the entire time. Wasn’t too loud though.

Pretty area, close together campgrounds

Dillon is a beautiful town. The campground was clean with vault toilets and electric hook ups. There's separate areas for tents and RV camping. Nice spot to be close to the Dillon Amphitheater.

Quiet for a busy area

I was having trouble finding a camp spot in the breck/Dillon area and took a chance at a first come site. So glad I did. It’s pretty quiet even on a Saturday. The camp hosts are amazing! They checked in on me which was nice. The bathrooms also amazing! The cleanest, nicest pit toilet I’ve ever used. The views were pretty incredible from my site. Valleys and trees. The proximity to Dillon is great. I was able to get some camp grocery shopping done with ease.

Pretty Good

The area around Dillon Lake is really beautiful. Lowry was a great spot to stop and enjoy the lake.

The host was super nice. The bathrooms were clean.

I stayed in a walk-in site. Maybe only 100 yards from the campsite, but three nice spots to venture a little farther away.

All the spots had a fire ring, table, and bear locker.

Lake Dillon and High Elevation

This campground is near Lake Dillon-you would need to drive down to the lake itself but it is within .5-1 mile.  The campground itself is a pretty stereotypical National Forest campground but it does have electric.  Everything was clean and well maintained.  The sites are super well spaced and have awesome views!  It can be windy, so careful with awnings!

Also nearby Breckenridge and amazing hiking!

Great views with access to Dillon/Frisco/Breckenridge

We wanted to check out the Dillon/Breckenridge area, but we didn’t have a reservation. We thought we would go to another campground first, but it was pretty full so we drove around the lake to Lowry and are so glad we did! We really enjoyed our time here. We initially only paid for one night, but we kept extending it since we liked it so much! The views are incredible and there is a bike path around the lake that we made great use of. You can only go one way around the lake in an RV so make sure to check on that! The views are incredible here and the camp host was super friendly. The sites are electric only. They have vault toilets available for use as well. We had a great time here and would definitely go back if we are in the area again!

Good campground. Nice location. Nothing particularly special about it, but accomplished what you need from a campground. Reservations encouraged. Nice staff there too.

Amazing views

Quiet secluded campground with lake within a mile. Snow capped mountains are part of the view even in July. Our most beautiful campsite to date!

Nice Campground Good Set Ups

Stayed here for a friends birthday. Decent campground, with built-in fire pit, bathrooms, and an electrical plug in front where you park. Bathrooms were pretty clean considering location and the host was nice and welcoming. We stayed in site 12 which was nice because it was a bit more secluded than the others, but it was behind the bathroom so there was a slight odor that came through with the wind every now and then by our cars. Most of the time we didn't notice it at all though. The camp isn't really close enough to the lake to walk, but a short drive to Frisco or Dillon. We rented a boat from Dillon marina and cruised the lake for the afternoon which was great!

3 or 4 can’t decide

This is a small pretty cramped campground with gorgeous views and convenient to all of Summit County! The host is nice... close to biking trails.
