RV parks near Lafayette, Colorado provide easy access to both Denver and Rocky Mountain National Park with elevation changes from 5,200 to 7,500 feet across the region. Temperature fluctuations are substantial, with summer highs averaging in the mid-80s and winter lows frequently dropping below freezing. Most campgrounds remain accessible year-round, though mountain locations often limit services during winter months.
What to do
Hiking nearby trails: Clear Creek RV Park in Golden offers convenient access to excellent walking trails. "Beautiful place! We called ahead to reserve a site for the night. Arrived after the office had closed. Had a back-in full-hookups site that backed up to the walking path/sidewalk beside the river," notes one camper at Clear Creek RV Park.
Tubing and fishing: Creek activities are popular during warmer months. "There is so much to do at this location; aside from the sectioned off RV area, there are lots of paths and locals parks to adventure around. Tubing & swimming in the creek is wonderful especially in summertime. Our favorite is the fishing, so much fun fishing in all the different spots along the creek," says a visitor to Clear Creek RV Park.
Wildlife viewing: Many parks offer opportunities to spot local wildlife. "Two bull elk were hanging out at our site one day... The big herd was just down the street... there was also a mule deer herd with a big buck hanging out just down the street," reports a visitor to Manor RV Park.
What campers like
Mountain views: Several campgrounds offer views of the Continental Divide. "Our site #62 was a back-in so the big windshield of our Class A had an amazing view of mountains. RMNP, Beaver Meadows entrance is only 2 miles," explains a camper at Manor RV Park.
Urban convenience: Applewood RV Resort offers access to amenities while staying close to nature. "A campground as expected close to a big city: Gravel sites, close quarters, and no views. However, the bus to Union Station leaves every hour just outside the campground - so with an easy 30 min trip, you are in the center of Denver!"
Quiet riverside spots: Several parks offer water features. "We got site 37 right along the fast moving creek. Amazing views in 360 degrees of the mountains. Was able to get this site last minute," shares a visitor at Manor RV Park.
What you should know
Limited Wi-Fi quality: Internet connectivity varies significantly across RV parks. "We work remotely so good wi-fi is always a bonus but unfortunately this wi-fi was barely usable, even for just using your phone, which is not unusual for a campground but still worth noting. Luckily our Verizon service consistently had 3-4 bars of 5G," explains a visitor to Dakota Ridge RV Park.
Site spacing challenges: Many RV parks have tight sites. "Spots are a little close, beautiful area w/lots of Hiking, biking, walking trails. Golden is an awesome area to explore & very close to Denver," notes one camper at Clear Creek RV Park.
Water pressure issues: Some parks have inconsistent utilities. "The water pressure could be a lot better. The restrooms are dated. The shower took a while to heat up and the room was a little chilly," reports a Manor RV Park visitor.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Several parks include play areas for children. "This campground has a pool and hot tub. The play set for kids is small. The bathrooms are very clean. The staff is helpful. Walk up the hill to the open space adjacent to the campground for a view of the mountains and the city," shares a visitor to Dakota Ridge RV Park.
Pet policies vary: Dog owners should check specific rules before arrival. "Portable dog pens are not allowed. Tethering is not allowed. We don't like tethering and our rv is small so we travel with some wire folding dog fence so that our dogs can hop in and out of the rv when the weather is good. At this park they can only be on a 6 ft leash attached to a human," warns a Dakota Ridge visitor.
Affordable activities: Riverview RV Park offers recreational options included with your stay. "We really enjoyed the river, dog park, live music on sat. night and laundry," notes one camper.
Tips from RVers
Weather preparation: The region experiences sudden weather changes. "It can be suddenly and very windy here, so most campers did not use awnings," explains a visitor to Riverview RV Park.
Tree sap concerns: Some parks have messy vegetation. "The grounds were nice and clean, very pretty, they had good amenities. We stayed in a premium pull through because the basic pull through were soooo close together. The trees drop a horrible yellow sap that was on EVERYTHING after only one night, our shoes, our floors, our dogs, our rig, our vehicles, it was a mess," warns a visitor to Loveland RV Resort.
Sewer hookup placement: Check hookup locations before setting up. "The site we stayed at had the sewer dump farther back than we are used to, but not a major problem just had to use our longer hose," advises a Manor RV Park camper.
