Best Campgrounds near Hurley, WI

The Hurley region of northern Wisconsin and its Michigan border area feature several campgrounds for outdoor enthusiasts seeking varied accommodation styles. Schomberg Park in Hurley provides electric sites with access to UTV/ATV trails, while Curry Park Campground in nearby Ironwood, Michigan offers full hookup options with showers and sanitary dump facilities. These mixed-use campgrounds typically accommodate tents, RVs, and some have cabin options. The campgrounds range from primitive sites with basic amenities to more developed areas with modern facilities, particularly along the Michigan-Wisconsin border where several county parks serve both ATV enthusiasts and traditional campers.

Seasonal considerations significantly impact camping availability in the Hurley area, with most campgrounds operating from May through October. Winter closures are common due to heavy snowfall in this northern region. A camper noted, "Sites have electric but no water hookups at the site. Fill station is across from site 1." Many campgrounds require advance reservations, especially during summer weekends when ATV riders frequent the area. The terrain around Hurley features wooded areas and small lakes, with some campgrounds situated directly on highways while others provide more secluded settings. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with several reviews mentioning limited connectivity at more remote campgrounds.

Campers consistently highlight the area's connection to trail systems as a major draw. One reviewer described Schomberg Park as a "perfect small campground with trail access to UTV/ATV trails," noting the convenient amenities for off-road enthusiasts, including a coin-operated ATV wash. Several visitors mentioned the peaceful setting of certain campgrounds despite proximity to highways. Weber Lake County Park receives positive reviews for its lakeside setting, though facilities are described as more rustic. The camping areas near Hurley balance recreational access with natural settings, though amenity quality varies considerably between campgrounds. Reviews suggest the region appeals most to those seeking outdoor adventure activities rather than those prioritizing luxury camping experiences, with multiple campgrounds described as "rustic" but satisfactory for overnight stays while exploring the area's natural features.

Apostle Islands Area RV park and Camping

Nice place for a day or two

This is a nice enough campground but I am honestly disappointed. The website describes lots of amenities, which is why I booked this campground, however, everything is extra cost in addition to nightly rate— including mini-golf. The entire campground is in the side of a mountain and there are no flat roads, which makes biking and walking a workout rather than leisure. We will check out Buffalo Bay next time.

    Apostle Islands Area Campground

    Cute Campground

Great campground with swimming hole & great access to Bayside for island ferry’s! Complaints: Park is located on the side of a hill—Spots are small but level, roads are all at a slope. Not a great campground for kiddos to ride their bikes, and not super fun to walk uphill in every direction. The campground also charges you $5-7 per person to play mini-golf… which is odd, since it is advertised as a campground amenity on the website.

Little Presque Isle Rustic Outpost Camp — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

    Great Location

Great campground with access to Lake Superior. Perfect for watching the sunset or yooperlite hunting. This campground is family friendly and the vault toilets are well maintained. Some of the sites are a little close to others, but it wasn’t much of a bother.

There is a trailhead right at the beginning of the campground that is short and easy with a number of amazing waterfalls along the way.

    Sylvania (clark Lake) Campground

    Private sites

Shady private sites with ample mosquitoes. We were in a tent so did not appreciate the asphalt, but this site would be great for a small trailer.

    Little Girl's Point County Park

    No drinking water

The location is spectacular. Our site was of good size. The toilets have higher use than they were designed for. I did not like that we had to cross a country road to get to the toilet. There is a playground and the beach had excellent rocks.

    Lake Gogebic State Park Campground

    Close sites

The sites are close together and not private. The campground was never dark or quiet. The shower house was clean and the hosts invited guests to hot chocolate in the morning.

    Eddy Park & Campground

Nice park with tight rv spaces

Very pretty lake and park on the edge of town. The rv park itself is very tight spacing, and many rvs are full-time sitting here from the looks of it. Overall, for price, quiet, and just a few night stay, it wasn't bad. It's just not camping.

    Kreher RV Park

On Lake Superior. Bike trails to downtown

This is a great campground. It's directly on the lake, and it's connected to a bike trail that you can take to downtown or farther north along the lake. You can follow it all the way to the end of town where you'll find a large beach and (free) artisan well water. The water is delicious and very cold!

The shower house is very clean and has private rooms. A code is necessary to gain access to the bathrooms/showers.

Some leveling will be required at most sites, but not much. The camp host was very friendly and easy to work with.

The best part in my opinion is the trail. You can follow it to cross under the highway and access the downtown area, which is great. There are lots of unique shops and restaurants, as well as a library and an amazing grocery store.

This campground was mostly full when I was there. There is an overflow area (a marina parking lot) adjacent to the campground you can use for $25/night if the campground is full. There are no hookups in the overflow parking lot.

I had great 5G T-mobile signal here, and decent 4G Verizon signal inside the camper. Outside the camper I could get a good 5G Verizon signal.

    Will definitely visit again.
