Best RV Parks & Resorts near Oostburg, WI

Kohler-Andrae State Park provides RV camping along the shores of Lake Michigan with electric hookups, water hookups, and 50-amp service availability. The park accommodates larger motorhomes with big-rig friendly access and paved roads throughout the campground. "The interior sites are a little cramped and may not accommodate larger RVs; however, the access to Lake Michigan more than makes up for it," according to one camper. Plymouth Rock Camping Resort offers additional RV sites with full hookups, including sewer connections, though site spacing can be tight. Westward Ho RV Resort in Glenbeulah features big-rig friendly spaces with 50-amp electrical service and sewer hookups for extended stays.

Reservations are essential during the summer months when lakefront RV parks fill quickly. Most RV campgrounds in the area operate seasonally, with Kohler-Andrae remaining open year-round while Plymouth Rock operates from April through mid-October. Dump stations are available at several parks, with Kohler-Andrae featuring recently renovated facilities that received positive reviews. Cell service varies throughout the region, with better connectivity at parks closer to Sheboygan. Wisconsin State Park vehicle permits are required at state-operated campgrounds, while private RV parks typically charge additional fees for visitors. Pet restrictions differ between facilities, with most allowing leashed dogs but enforcing breed and size limitations.

Kettle Moraine State Forest Long Lake Campground

    this is a BIG campground

We had been to this area three years earlier, and stayed at Mauthe lake. That suited us better because it is motorboat free, and we have a canoe. Long lake is more suited for powerboats. the sites are also large and would handle big rigs. There are six different campground loops, none near the lake (though the 700 loop has a trail to the boat launch). We stayed in the lower 900 loop, the smallest. Our site, 906, was about 30 feet from site 730. all the sites in this loop are large and deep with the exceptions of 908,910, 912 which are right up against the road and have no privacy. sites 713 & 705 run into each other and are the best for a large group and a pull-through if you get them together.
Pit toilets only. Fire rings are decent. Wood is available 24/7 through a huge "vending machine" that costs $6 (a five and a one, no change) Wood from the shed costs a dollar less, but only when the ranger is at the front gate.
There's a beach with a concession stand and a separate boat ramp with parking.
We went canoeing at the very small nearby Silver lake and had it all to ourselves.
Sad news is that the Parkside general store, with it's ice cream and home-made maple candies is out of business. Zahn's trading post is temporarily closed, and the Woodland Creek Supper club (both in New Prospect) was undergoing renovation when we were there, a shame as we loved it last time.

    Wisconsin State Fair RV Park

    Really Great City Park

The quality of most city parks, especially on the east side, is abhorrent simply because they can be. I always have low expectations when I enter a city that basically has one option for RVs.

That being said, this is one of the best I’ve been to. Granted, it features things you would expect from a city park: cramped spaces, lots of noise, high nightly rates. But we lucked out getting one of the bigger spots.

Pros: LOCATION, Good wifi, great signal, friendly staff, lots of washers and dryers with a change machine, will accept and hold packages for guests.

Cons: The sewage system is strange at this park. We couldn’t reach ours during our stay and a camper had blocked the dump station so we pulled through in a vacant spot to dump. The pipe is highly elevated, making the process more hands-on than one would like. Bathrooms could have been cleaner, but I mostly blame guests for not picking up after themselves. The automated site selection process, which many have mentioned, is frustrating. I received six emails between Mar-Jun indicating they switched my spot. I noticed they placed a lot of large fifth wheels in tiny back in spaces when plenty pull throughs were available. Wonky system.

    Kohler-Andrae State Park

    Kohler-Andre

Living rather close to this park, this is our "go-to" place to camp. It has a great variety of activities available. There is a beach AND a dog beach so it's pet-friendly. Dogs are not allowed on all of the trails, but there are many you can take them on. Being on the water, you can swim, kayak, fish, or just soak up some rays! There are also non-reservable sites available. There are many electric sites, clean bath houses, friendly campground hosts, some rather private sites as well. It's a short walk from the campsites to the lake. Our favorite site is next to the woods where we have seen ample deer, turkey, foxes, and birds. Close to town if you need supplies, firewood and ice is available in the park.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

    Escarpment

Grew up near here and used to backpack across Lake Winnebago to winter camp and hike in January when the park was empty and no mosquitos to chew on my butt.

Indian Burial Mounds, old kilns, trails, hills, observation deck, sledding in winter, and lots of other things to do all year round.

This Park is actually on an escarpment that winds around Lake Michigan all the way to Niagara Falls. Limestone cliffs for climbing on, scenic.

in the summer the lake gets green with algae and there is a summer stretch wherever the lake flies hatch and get thick.

Good park for families. Close to small towns for resupply. Appleton & Green Bay are within striking distance as is Lake Michigan.

Bring arctic survival gear in January...subzero temps with wind chills in the negative teens is normal. Fantastic cross country skiing/snowshoeing.

    Waupun Park Campground

Waupun County Park WI - Campground

Family friendly campground, playgrounds, pickle ball court, showers, clean bathrooms, fire rings, shared water spigots & power at camp site. There is an outdoor pavilion for groups, firewood for sale at host. Lamp posts light camp road but not overwhelming. Nice shaded sites with mature white oak trees. Enjoyed and recommend if looking for full service campsite.

    Hickory Oaks Campground

    Hickory oaks

Very nice place to camp. Quite and friendly. Small but accommodates all types of campers. Has 30 and 50 Amp hookups. Tenting up to cabin, they have two. My second year long term camping here. On the edge of the city and close to everything.

    Sleepy Hollow Farms

    Convenient to the highway

General: There is both a north and a south part to this campground with a total of 178 sites. The sites in the south part are all on a grassy field and there is a small man-made lake with an inflatable play area. The sites in the north part are a mix of full hook-up and tent sites. There are also small cabins (only one of which has a bathroom) and three “condos”. These all had air-conditioners, but I did not see the inside of them. The north unit features a pond, which I was disappointed to discover was algae-filled and completely green.

Site Quality: Some are pull-through and some back-in. Some sites have electric and water hookups, some have picnic tables, and some have fire rings (but not all sites have all of these amenities). Only a handful have concrete pads; the rest are all on grass.

Our impression of Sleepy Hollow was influenced in part by the fact that it poured rain for much of our overnight stay. The roads were all dirt and with the rain, became very muddy along with the campsites as well. When leaving the next day, we had some challenges backing out of our site with the amount of mud. There is no clear delineation between the sites other than where the electric and water hookups are placed.

Bathhouse: Was very clean (in both the north and south units of the campground). Showers are available for a fee (five minutes for$1.00) but we did not use them so cannot comment on how well they worked.

Activities/Amenities: In the south unit, there is a small manmade lake with an inflatable play structure and plenty of life jackets. The color is a beautiful Caribbean blue, but it did not look natural, and I was not sure of the source of the color. We were there on a weekday in September, and no one was using the lake. There is a small bar and grill (in the north section) and a concession (south unit) on-site, but both were closed when we were there. Firewood was available (15 pieces for $10); we asked and were granted permission to use the golf cart to bring the wood to our site. Other than the lake, there really is nothing offered for recreation.

We chose this campground for its location; it is very close to Highway 41 in Oshkosh (you will hear road noise) and we were meeting family there. We checked in online the day before and arrived at 3:30 pm. No one was in the office when we arrived but the family members we were meeting had arranged for us to camp in the site next to them (not the original one we had selected). This campground is VERY close to EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), and I imagine it would be completely full during the annual EAA convention. For us, it was a convenient location but aside from spending time with our family, the reason we chose this campground.

    Harrington Beach State Park Campground

    Somewhat isolated sites

This is a nice park with very friendly staff and 50 amp power. No water or sewer but does have a dump station. The sites are gravel but very unlevel. To level my 35 foot motor home my rear tires had to come off the ground by at least 6 inches. The sites are bordered by natural grasses and foliage. That provides a feeling of isolation. If not for the unlevel sites I could easily give it 5 stars.

Long Lake Campground — Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit-Iansr

    Site 907

Our site was a bit less secluded than I’d prefer but still very nice. The loop we were on the lower 900 loop, had quite a few sites that could be combined to be group sites. Two sites completely adjoining or with very little separating them. This loop would be good for an option if the group sites are unavailable. Especially the inner loop sites that back up to each other. We walked some of the other loops and the did not all seem this way, stuff especially in the 700’s loop being a bit more wooded with some nice sites being my favorites, and also some nice sites in the upper 900’s loop that were spaced out nicely. Great hiking nearby, flush toilets, showers, nice little beach, plenty of downed wood around and also available to purchase 5$ a stack, pet friendly except no dogs allowed on the beach. There is a dog friendly picnic area near the water though. Nice get away pretty close to Milwaukee, Chicago, etc...

Guide to Oostburg

Oostburg, Wisconsin camping areas offer both coastal and inland settings throughout the year. Located near Lake Michigan's western shore at 675 feet elevation, the area experiences summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F with occasional thunderstorms. Winter camping is available at select locations with temperatures often dipping below freezing.

What to do

Beach activities on Lake Michigan: Kohler-Andrae State Park sits directly on Lake Michigan with swimming beaches and dune areas for exploration. "Hiking is nice, there is a dune boardwalk trail that is good that runs parallel to Lake Michigan shoreline," notes camper Shanon P. Access to the beach involves a short walk from most campsites.

Golfing and nearby recreation: Several campgrounds provide easy access to local golf courses. At Zigs Golf Haven, RV sites include full hookups adjacent to the golf course. Nearby Plymouth Rock Camping Resort offers additional recreation options with "three pools, mini golf, outdoor movies," according to Lauren P.

Hiking trails: The area features multiple trail networks through diverse terrain. Harrington Beach State Park offers "plenty of trails, a quarry, and a historical element," according to Ross K. The park's water-accessible walk-in site accommodates kayakers passing through the area.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many campgrounds offer secluded spots with natural buffers. At Harrington Beach State Park, "Most of the sites are pretty secluded so if you enjoy your privacy I will love this place," reports camper J K. The separation between sites provides a sense of seclusion even during busy periods.

Clean facilities: Bathrooms and shower buildings receive regular maintenance at most area campgrounds. Campers at Long Lake Campground note, "Flush toilets, showers, nice little beach, plenty of downed wood around and also available to purchase $5 a stack." The shower pressure receives particular praise despite older buildings.

Diverse terrain: The combination of lake access, wooded areas, and open spaces creates varied camping experiences. Naga-Waukee Park offers "a very nice, woodsy campground. Feels like you are further north than you really are," according to Gina L. Most campgrounds feature a mix of wooded and open sites.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds fill quickly during summer weekends. For Long Lake Campground, "if you call and place an order, a local baker will deliver fresh, homemade cinnamon rolls to your campsite," shares camper Renee R. This service accepts mobile payments.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby roads or facilities. Plymouth Rock Camping Resort campers report, "The amenities are pretty great, and the campground is decent, but the noise is annoying early in the morning and throughout the day. It is really close to a racetrack." Consider location when booking specific sites.

Site variations: Quality and size vary significantly within individual campgrounds. At Mauthe Lake Campground, "Some of the campsites seems very shallow but if you looked closer they have a path or another site to put a tent," reports Charles M. Research specific site numbers before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Beach access: Most families prefer sites with easy beach access. Kohler-Andrae provides "nice and clean beaches. Campsites are a nice-not the most private but its a big park, and the facilities are stocked and clean," according to Elliot Q. Consider bringing water shoes for rocky shoreline sections.

Organized activities: Several campgrounds offer scheduled recreational programs. At Naga-Waukee Park, "The beach on the shores of Lake Nagawicka is well-groomed, clean, has a seasonal lifeguard and a playground within earshot," notes Ross K. Most activities occur during weekend days.

Swimming options: Lake conditions vary throughout the season. For Long Lake, one camper notes "The lake is rather shallow so best for swimming in early summer or warm fall days." Check with rangers about current water conditions before planning swimming activities.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for larger rigs: Many campgrounds have limited spaces for big RVs. For the best RV camping near Oostburg, Wisconsin, consider Village Inn on the Lake where "Campground is part of a motel. Can use the indoor pool as campers," according to Nancy S. This provides additional amenities during inclement weather.

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks in the region operate with limited schedules. Wisconsin State Fair RV Park operates "all year" according to its listing, making it one of few winter camping options. The park offers full hookups with "nice facilities" despite being essentially "a huge parking lot."

Utility availability: Electric service varies between 30-amp and 50-amp depending on location. At Mauthe Lake, "30 amp at the electrical site worked perfectly," according to Elizabeth S. Most campgrounds offer electric-only sites with limited full-hookup options.
