      Americamps RV Resort

      Most Dog-Friendly

Enjoyed my corner pull-through site F2 even though it was gravel with some muddy spots. There are some paved spots near the entrance (7-10 and 15-19 plus VIP 1 & 2). Fire pits and wood for $6 upon request. Nice office with two small dogs to greet you and a jar of dog treats. Was decked out for Halloween during my stay, and the flower beds, pond, playground, basketball court and dog park were among the nicest. There is even an on-site dog walker, so dog people will really appreciate staying here. I noticed one side of the park (around site 22) is very noisy during the work day as there is a big lumber yard there. The proximity to the Great Outdoors and a couple of cute pub houses was a nice surprise. Recycling dumpster on site.

      Williamsburg Campground

      Very nice campground

The cabin we stayed in was very nice. It had a very large back deck with a picnic table. We chose one without a bathroom, and the bathhouse was a very short walk. They have plenty of recreational activities for the kids. The staff was friendly and helpful. The playgrounds and pool were very clean, and the store had everything we needed. It is a very short drive off the highway and an easy commute to all of Williamsburg’s attractions. My only complaint is that my dogs typically travel everywhere with me, but I was not allowed to bring them on this trip because pit bulls are the ONLY breed they don’t allow on the campgrounds. However, if you have other breeds there is a very small dog park for them to run around and play. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay at other KOAs when the dogs are not with us.

our first trip in Tex the Apex

this was our first trip in our travel trailer, so we didn’t know what to expect. the campground was very clean, we constantly saw crew keeping it up. we had a campfire and roasted s’mores. the general store was fully stocked. the pool and water park area were my daughter’s favorite. they had big jumpy things for the kids, an out door movie theater and a nice playground. our dog enjoyed the dog park.

Point Lookout State Park - Temporarily Closed

      5 stars! Beautiful, clean, magical

Magical stay at Point Lookout — New Tulip Loop (Full Hook‑Up) and I’m already planning a return. The whole park feels peaceful and safe, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and our site is clean and well‑maintained. The loop’s energy felt magical — quiet, restorative, and tucked into the trees so it felt private but not isolated. Full hookups were convenient and reliable; the site layout is roomy and pet‑friendly, with an easy walk to a beautiful dog beach so our pup had a blast. We walked to stunning beaches and spent afternoons watching water and sky at the tip of the peninsula — spectacular views where the Potomac meets the Chesapeake. The park’s Civil War history and lighthouse added fascinating, walkable sites to explore between beach time, giving the stay both recreation and depth. Clean facilities, helpful staff at the park office, and well-marked trails made everything low‑stress and enjoyable. If you want a peaceful, historic, pet‑friendly Class A spot with full hookups and gorgeous nearby beaches, Tulip Loop at Point Lookout is five stars from me.

      Williamsburg Campground

      Great Choice in Williamsburg

One of the best campgrounds we’ve stayed at. It’s our first experience with a KOA, and so far impressed. The whole campground is shady, and while some sites appear pretty on top of one another most, including ours, are are standard. Great amenities, including a pool and a small splash pad. The jumping pillows are awesome for the kids. The only criticisms are that the dog park is very small, and the sewer hook up for our site is nearly above the outlet (although this seems site specific). We are in Williamsburg a lot and will definitely be back.

Richmond North - Kings Dominion KOA

      Good campground

We stayed during the covid pandemic when things were just starting to open back up, so the play grounds weren’t available. The bathrooms are clean and the laundry facility is a plus. They also have a dog park which we used a ton. Most spots are shaded and there are paved and gravel roads. The spaces are very snug so forget privacy when they’re busy, but at the time we were the only ones on our little road. The store is super pricey, but overall a good campground.

    Guide to Aylett

Camping options near Aylett, Virginia include both riverside and wooded settings across Caroline, King William, and King and Queen counties. The region sits at the convergence of the Mattaponi and Pamunkey rivers, creating the York River, with an average elevation of 100 feet above sea level. Most campgrounds remain open from April through November, with limited winter camping available at select locations.

    What to do

Water activities on the Mattaponi River: Rainbow Acres Campground offers direct river access for fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. "We love rainbow acres! We've been in groups and just the two of us. It's so relaxing and so much to do. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Great place to fish or paddle board whatever you're into really," notes camper Chanel B.

Hiking through diverse terrain: Belle Isle State Park features trails along the water's edge where hikers can observe local wildlife. "Beautiful hikes and bike trails, a small beach for the kids to splash in," reports Kristin, who appreciates the park's natural setting. The trails are maintained year-round but require bug spray during warmer months.

Historic exploration: Westmoreland State Park provides access to Fossil Beach where visitors can search for prehistoric shark teeth. "With access to the Potomac River, beaches, shark tooth island (!), what seems like endless beautiful hiking trails and the cleanest camp grounds I have ever seen I would recommend everyone to visit this park," says Katie T.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Belle Isle State Park offers generously sized sites with privacy. "Sites are big and for the most part lots of space between. A couple of sites are close and could be buddy sites," writes Quintin M., who appreciates the room to spread out compared to more crowded facilities.

Seasonal activities: Richmond North - Kings Dominion KOA hosts special holiday events that campers enjoy. "Had a great time for Halloween here. Will be back," reports Jason L., highlighting the campground's seasonal programming. The KOA regularly organizes themed weekends throughout their operating season.

Clean facilities: Americamps RV Resort maintains exceptionally clean bathhouses and common areas. "The bathrooms are clean and the laundry facility is a plus. They also have a dog park which we used a ton," notes Samantha G. The resort's attention to cleanliness extends to all public spaces, including their heated pool and fitness center.

    What you should know

Campground atmosphere varies widely: Some locations like Rainbow Acres cater to long-term seasonal campers while others focus on short stays. "This campground is about 3/4 year rounders. People who rent a campsite and build porches and party sites up and come visit on the weekend or stay the summer," explains Matt W.

Military installation camping: Military Park Fort AP Hill Champs Camp RV Park offers a unique camping option for those with military ID. "Access to DoD folks only," notes MH, adding that the base provides "Great hiking, biking, wildlife." Remember that proper government identification is required for entry.

Seasonal bugs can be intense: Summer months bring significant insect activity, particularly near water. "We had super mutant mosquitoes and horse flies. They were resisitant to citronella candles, essential oils, and bug spray with 40% deet. We only found relief in the water," warns Gina G. about Belle Isle State Park.
