    Fantastic Little Find

I car camped here while passing through TX in a tent site, and I found the peninsula-like campground gorgeous! Lake views, deer, and a well-kept bathhouse just feet away. Spots are close together with few trees around, although few others were around.

    Good for a layover

There are a limited number of sites, about three. When I arrived, there were none available, but someone cruised through and wanted to chat with me, by the time he finished a site opened up. This was actually my first municipal park stay, so I was a  bit nervous and eventually decided to move on. But the park is as described and it is on an attractive lake. In the end, it's just a place to park for a night unless your have something to do. Main downside is that you may or may not get a place to park.

OH HOW WE LIKE STATE PARKS

Due to our travels, only stayed here for one night to break up our drive. Now wish we had stayed longer. Nice large wooded sites. Drove down to lake Abilene but wasn't much of a lake as they hadn't had rain in a while. Said one good rain would fill her up. Look forward to staying here again for an extended amount of time.

    Hords Creek #75

Hords Creek COE in Coleman, TX Site #75 50 amp Full hook up Pull through site April 12-16, 2024

The site was roomy with lots of shade trees. Our door faced the west & trees were not close enough to our RV to block out the evening sun. We did have a lakefront view, but the lake is WAY down.

This loop was full over the weekend, but sites are spaced just far enough apart that you can still enjoy the peace & quiet.

If I had a choice of any spot in the park, it would be #73.

Will definitely be back. — at Hords Creek Lake.

    Great Stay at Hords Creek

Hords Creek COE in Coleman, TX Site #73 50 amp Full hook up Pull through site March 2024

In the last 23 days, we’ve stayed in 6 parks, I have to say that this is my favorite park so far.

The site is roomy with lots of shade trees with a lakefront view (even though the lake is WAY down). Sites are not on top of each other.

There were a few people here when we arrived, but never heard a peep out of them.

The peace & quiet that we’ve experienced in this park is beyond words. Relaxation at its best!

When we come back, we’ll either get the same site, or #76. — at Hords Creek Lake- Lakeside Park.

It is the ideal family vacation

I recently visited with my family, and we were pleasantly surprised by the tranquility and beauty of this hidden gem. We stayed at one of the RV sites near the lake, and the view was absolutely breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset. The site itself was spacious, well-maintained, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. One of the highlights of our trip was renting a pavilion for a barbecue gathering with friends. The pavilion was conveniently located near our RV site and provided everything we needed, from running water and electricity to a large fireplace for cozy geometry dash evenings. The campground staff kept the pavilion and surrounding areas impeccably clean and groomed, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Although the shower and toilet facilities were a bit of a walk from our site, we found them to be clean and well-maintained, which was much appreciated. Overall, Lakeside proved to be the perfect getaway for our family, offering a peaceful retreat amidst nature's beauty. We're already planning our next visit!

    Great free spot

We had a great experience at this free site - there are 4 designated camp sites each with a little pullout, fire ring, covered picnic table, and large gravel parking area (probably room for 4+ cars on each). Overall very quiet with a few people driving by and a bit of a hike to the bathroom from the camping area, but it did have running water so can’t complain.

Very Quiet And Lots of Wildlife

This is a very quiet and open campground. We saw lots of deer every night. This area of Texas is hot and dry and the landscape reflects that. We had electric and water (slow flow). There is a dump station at the front near the gas station and the store. Most people are here to catch giant fish in Lake OH Ivie.

Love being here. Out of the city, quite and the owners go out of their way to make sure your time at their place is comfortable & safe. The only reason why I gave a 4 ⭐️ is doesn’t have all the amenities you may want, but does have a laundry room.

Hard to Find an Activity Not Avaiable

If at first you don’t find something you like– keep driving! You’ll find it! This place is Texas big with more recreational activities than I have ever seen, and I have been on the road for quite a while. The only thing I didn’t see was a bocce court! There are multiple camping opportunities so take your pick. The Wagon Circle was a trip-- 17 sites with water and electric in a circle around the facilities, see the photos. There are two pools– a kiddy pool and a full size(25 yards) lap pool. The pool area is in great shape, but many of the other activity areas are a bit dated. I was relying on my Verizon hotspot because of issues with Starlink and the signal was not great. I ended up dry camping in a picnic area because it was the only place I could get two bars LTE.

    Large camping areas!

There are several sites here. Most of the campgrounds look fairly well taken care of. I'm new to this dispersed camping, so I don't have a lot to compare it to.

I'd stay here again. Large campsites, flat area for tents. I only took one star off because I don't feel the view is all that great. At least from the mountain to one last night in New Mexico! And because it's obvious people come here to party. I'm here on a Monday. I suspect the weekend is different.

Great park, would like to return

Abilene is a great state park with lots of space between campsites. We reserved #83 which was listed as a 25' site. We have a Class B with a very low clearance and could not make it up the steep incline to the pad without damage. Park official drove by while we were figuring out what to do and had us move to site 84. Still had an incline but we were able to get onto the pad by using some of our leveling blocks to raise the front end when backing onto the pad. Once on the pad, it was completely level. Used the blocks on departure as well.

    Nice

What a wonderful location to visit. We enjoyed camping here, and loved finding gem sites around. We went on a trek that brought us to a beautiful water hole where we could jump in, swing into the water from a tree and find wordle together.

    Sufficient Site

Not a vacation getaway, but decent play to park overnight. Arrived on a Monday afternoon. We took one of the sites and not long after we arrived many RVs, Vans, and gypsy travelers showed up and set up around the park. Thankful for a quiet night here.

Quite campground with awesome views of the stars and nature

I was the only person camping on the small loop where my site was. The campground itself is something of a a large field. The sites them selves have several trees. The site was flat and clean. The starts were awesome.  The shower/ toilets were a bit of  hike but they were very clean.

The tent sites are next to the motel that Is next to the koa. The lights from the motel are super bright and light up the site. You will also be right next to the highway and be able to hear it all night. Bring ear plugs!!!

    Huge

This place is BIG. Very spacious campsites. Wide open so if it’s windy you will feel it. There are deer roaming every morning and evening. Very interesting place but not much to do unless you are able to use the lake. There is a Walmart about a half hour away. Neat little town of Coleman about 10 minutes away has some good restaurants.
