Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

      Cool Colorado Lake State Park.

Got in Thursday before Memorial weekend and there were just a few campers. So that was very nice. Good weather after a short rain. It cooled it down to a comfortable temperature. The campground is very well maintained. Had a nice little trail to hike right behind the t.t

Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

      Comfortable overnight stay

Wildlife was abundant; an assortment of roadrunners, quail, deer and rabbits. Level ground for campers, and ample space between campsites, providing good privacy. The restrooms were not very well maintained, especially by the lakeside. other than that, it was good for an overnight stay.

      Trent RV Park

Full of full timers - will not return

We booked a reservation via the web site. When we booked the website showed almost all of the sites available. When we arrived we found all but two of the sites occupied by what appear to be full timers including the site we had booked. Instead of causing a scene we occupied one of the two open sites. Shortly after were contacted by the “camp host”. He said we could stay overnight but the new full time occupants would be arriving soon. Long story short this appears to be a full timer park and we will not be returning.

      Lake Trammell Park

      Quiet and remote

I’m staying two nights here while I wait for a prescription to be filled in Sweetwater. It’s quiet but kind of creepy with the empty lake. As of this writing there are two dumpsters. One at each entrance. Yet there is still some garbage around. Why, people? lol. My cell service is not great. I have Verizon. I would have given it a higher score if I had cell reception. Lucky for me I have a Starlink.

      Overnight Spot

Stayed here twice. Once on my way to east Texas and once on my way back to Seattle. Great spot for over night camping. Not too crowded for end of February. Beautiful lake.

      Comanche Trail Park Campground

Get ready for the funny looks.

While this is technically a camp site, it's in the city and the golfers are usually very curious.

Careful if you're pulling a large rig, the roads aren't great and you'll have to swing back around.

    Guide to Snyder

Camping spots near Snyder, Texas provide access to diverse West Texas landscapes ranging from mesquite plains to small lakes. The region experiences dramatic temperature shifts between seasons, with spring and fall offering the most comfortable camping conditions when daytime temperatures stay between 65-85°F. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations between 2,200-2,500 feet above sea level.

    What to do

Wildlife photography opportunities: Lake Colorado City State Park Campground offers excellent chances to capture photos of local wildlife. "We only had a one night stopover here on the way from Dallas to Lubbock but truly enjoyed it. The owner got us backed in and then returned with some peaches for us later on," notes a visitor at MS G's RV Park.

Hiking accessible trails: The Samuel W. Wahl Recreation Area features trails with lake access and scenic terrain. "Site also had great trails down to the lake," reports one camper who gave the area a positive rating. Trails are typically under 3 miles in length and rated easy to moderate.

Fishing opportunities: Several camping areas near Snyder provide fishing access. "We're down there a couple of years ago and really had a relaxing time. We enjoyed the fishing and sitting around the campfire at night," mentions a visitor to Lake Colorado City State Park Campground.

Stargazing: The rural location offers dark skies for astronomy. "The night sky is amazing, facilities clean and well kept," reports a camper. Light pollution is minimal at most sites outside city limits.

    What campers like

Affordable rates: Many camping options near Snyder offer reasonable prices. "Great spot for a reasonable price! Camp site had a covered picnic table and power," notes a visitor at Samuel W. Wahl Rec Area.

Wildlife viewing: Local fauna is a highlight for many visitors. "Wildflowers everywhere, birds, ground squirrels. Very well maintained and clean," writes a camper at Lake Colorado City State Park Campground.

Solitude and quiet: Many sites offer peaceful settings away from crowds. "Very, very quiet in a city park on water there's only a few spots. I would definitely come back here and stay over a night," reports a visitor to Ruddick City Park.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained amenities receive positive mentions. "The bathrooms have a shower and toilets and were so clean! The campsites all had a tree (but some of them were very small!), concrete pad with awning and picnic table and water spigots," notes a Lake Colorado City visitor.

    What you should know

Weather considerations: High winds can affect travel and camping comfort. "Be careful of the winds when driving in this area, especially on the interstate," cautions a camper.

Variable cell service: Connectivity fluctuates throughout the region. "Starlink worked fine. T-Mobile, Verizon, Visible and Cricket were light on signal strength. Both Verizon and T-Mobile are 5G and download was ok but upload sucked," reports a visitor to Lake Colorado City.

Ground cover challenges: The terrain presents issues for tent campers and pets. "I was planning at camping at this site for 3 days. Upon arrival there was no trees what so ever so bring a canopy shade or something," notes a camper at White Island Park.

Fire restrictions: Burn bans are common in this dry region. "Stayed in the RV site, and everything was as expected. Grounds were kept, clean, and over all park was pretty quite in the evening. My only complaint was that there was a burn ban that we didn't find out about till we arrived," mentions a Lake Colorado City visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some campgrounds feature play areas for children. "A nice swimming beach. Everything was just perfect! Amazing weekend getaway!" writes a visitor about Lake Colorado City.

Site spacing: Look for campgrounds with adequate distance between sites. "Good distance between sites. Only minor complaints. Sites aren't too level and bring bug spray," notes a camper.

Sticker plants: Protect children and pets from thorny vegetation. "Beware if you have pets because there's stickers everywhere," warns a visitor to Lone Wolf Creek RV Village.

Water activities: Some locations offer swimming and water recreation. "Lots of trails to walk going down to the water. A nice swimming beach," mentions a Lake Colorado City visitor.

    Tips from RVers

Level sites: RV campers should prepare for uneven terrain. "The sites in the loop we stayed in were far enough apart. We did have a few people ask to go through our campsite to access the area behind us to get to the trail," reports a camper.

Security features: Some parks offer enhanced security measures. "Gated, clean, several of the sites have a covered veranda over the private picnic tables. Dog park with separate areas for small and large breed dogs," notes a visitor to Love's RV Stop.

Hookup options: Check specific site amenities before booking. "Sites range from water only to water and electric. The campground was quiet and isolated, it may not feel this way in the summer of it gets crowded. Many of the camp pads have an awning and picnic table," reports a Lake Colorado City visitor.
