Best Campgrounds near Springville, TN

Springville, Tennessee sits at the heart of the Land Between the Lakes region, where Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River create a water-rich landscape for camping enthusiasts. Mansard Island Resort and Marina provides tent and RV accommodations directly in Springville, while nearby options include Paris Landing State Park Campground and Piney Campground within the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. The region supports diverse camping styles from primitive tent sites to full-hookup RV pads, with several locations offering boat-in access. Waterfront camping dominates the area, with most established campgrounds providing direct lake or river access. Facilities range from basic dispersed sites with minimal amenities to developed campgrounds featuring electric hookups, shower facilities, and camp stores.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with many campers reporting spotty coverage, particularly in more remote areas. As one visitor noted, "Be sure to set your GPS before leaving I-40 because at least with ATT you will lose signal." Many campgrounds require advance reservations, especially during the peak season from March through October when water recreation activities are most popular. Access roads to some of the more remote camping areas can present challenges, with several reviews mentioning deep ruts and steep hills that may require high-clearance vehicles. Weather conditions remain mild through much of the camping season, though summer humidity can be significant and occasional thunderstorms may affect water levels.

Lakefront sites consistently receive the highest ratings from visitors, with particular praise for the views and water access. "Beautiful lake views, good camp store and great amenities," noted one camper about Piney Campground. Wildlife sightings, particularly coyotes, are commonly reported in the more remote camping areas. Families appreciate the recreation opportunities, with many campgrounds offering playgrounds, swimming areas, and boat ramps. Shade is abundant at most sites, providing relief during hot summer months. Campers should be prepared for varying levels of privacy between sites, as some reviewers mention close proximity to neighbors, particularly at more developed campgrounds. The Land Between the Lakes area offers additional attractions including hiking trails, a planetarium, and wildlife viewing areas featuring bison and elk.

    Lake Barkley State Resort Park

    Shaded but unlevel

Enjoyed our stay. Bring quite a bit of leveling materials as the sites are very unlevel. 1 dump station and an older but usable bath house. The road to come in was narrow but we'll marked. Very shaded and decently spaced out. Water and electric only.

Colson Hollow Group Camp Land Between the Lakes

    Good place to boon camp

We stayed here two nights with our friends in two travel trailers. We had 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 2, 3, and 10) and we had the best time. This was our first time boon camping and it was actually way more enjoyable than being at a campground! It was quiet, secluded from other campers, and we had close access to the lake where we were parked. We will definitely be camping here again!

    Forest Service Rd 343

    One of my favorite spots

This is one of the best spots I’ve found on this app. I had one other person show up to cook, but they left shortly after. Beautiful view with a nice fire pit, I was able to swim and had a great night to myself!

    Bee Spring Lodge-Campground

    Beautiful!

We will definitely be coming back to Bee Springs! This was our maiden voyage in our new pull behind. We frequent Kentucky Lake and have stayed at other locations near by but this is our new favorite. Nice tree shaded sites, great lake view, ice vending and convenient boat ramp and dock. Shower house is a basic camp site shower house but the stalls are spacious. Also the owner George is amazing!

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Beautiful lake front campsites

Site 64 was a bit difficult to back into but very level once you get in. I think it has some of the best views in the campground. Lots of other campers had their boats moored along the shoreline, they were camping across the street in the shade. I had fun paddle boarding with the little dog in the inlet right off this campsite. This is a large campground with lots of activities, but I didn’t do any. We stayed right at the campsite. Land between the lakes it’s a beautiful historic area to explore as well. We did not use the bathroom since they were not close to our site, so I can’t comment on that.

Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area Hillman Ferry Campground

Beautiful lake front spots at Hillman Ferry CG

Stayed in site 64 which had great views. Pad was level but a little difficult to back into because of one small tree. Not much shade on this site and it can get HOT! Did not use the bathrooms as they weren’t very close. So I can’t comment on that. I had a fun time paddle boarding in the little inlet right off this campsite. Lots of other campers had their boats moored along the shoreline. They were staying across the street. All in all I would say this is a nice campground and I would come back. There seem to be lots of amenities for the kiddos. Also, land between the lakes is a beautiful historic place to explore and this would be a good base camp for that.

    Fenton Self-Service Campground

    Quick last second stop

Made a quick last second stop here on a long road trip after was getting late. Great place! Several sites to choose from, first come basis. Find your spot and pay at the self serve area. Vault restrooms were clean, trails were nice although it was very wet and muddy so didn't get off paved trail. Many sites have electric.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Kentucky Lake near Piney Campground provides excellent fishing access with multiple boat ramps. "Nice campground with electric hookups. One central dump station and multiple areas with community water spigots. Fill up your freshwater before you get to your site!" notes a visitor who appreciates the lake access.

Playground facilities: Many campgrounds feature recreational areas for children. One visitor remarks, "Lots to do for kids - bike paths, basketball court, multiple playgrounds, etc. Beautiful views of Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River, nice campground store."

Hiking trails: Several primitive trails wind through the area, though maintenance varies seasonally. A camper at Paris Landing State Park Campground observed, "The hiking trails we found were perfect length for the kids (ages 5-9 at the time) but not for more serious hikers. Sports fields, pool, restaurant, and other activities make this a less nature-oriented campground but there's boating too."

What campers like

Waterfront access: Direct lake access ranks as the top feature mentioned by visitors to Boswell Landing Campground. "This site is amazing! We were able to spread out our tents for a group site and we had the perfect set up! We were 100ft. From the lake and had so many trees to use for our hammocks," writes one enthusiastic camper.

Shade coverage: The abundant tree canopy provides relief during hot summer months. A visitor to Boswell Landing notes, "Good size lots, most within feet of the water. Lots of trees so there's plenty of shade. Well maintained road to get here and pretty close to a modern campground with a small store."

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain their restrooms and shower facilities well. At Paris Landing State Park Campground, "The bathhouse was really nice, felt new and was very clean. The staff and park rangers were very nice."

What you should know

Uneven sites: Many campgrounds feature sloped or uneven sites that require leveling equipment. At Paris Landing State Park, one camper noted, "Paris Landing State Park has about 70 campsites, most with water and electric hookups, but it is not easy to fine a level site."

Industrial impacts: Some lakefront camping areas experience occasional industrial odors. At Lakefront Campground, a visitor warns, "Beautiful view of the river and water access but the bad smells coming from the factory across the river is almost unbearable at times."

Road noise: Proximity to highways affects some campgrounds. "The spot was nice, the park was lovely, but the road noise was bothersome. We were in a spot pretty far from the road but it was very noticeable," reports a Paris Landing camper.

Site maintenance: Cleanliness varies significantly between campgrounds and seasons. One Lakefront Campground visitor shared, "The fire ring was full of cigarette butts, there was a decaying fish in between my site and the shore, and the bathroom smelled strongly of cigarettes."

Tips for camping with families

Boat ramp proximity: When selecting sites at some of the best places to camp near Springville, Tennessee, consider the impact of boat traffic. At Boswell Landing, a visitor advises, "This place was very nice and well kept. My only problem with it was that people fly in and out of the cove on their boats."

Weekend crowds: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season weekends. "It was very active during one of the last weekends of the season. While quiet hours were observed, there was a lot of music, celebrating a Tennessee win with a golf cart parade and victorious choral singing of Rocky Top right up until 11pm," reports a camper at Piney Campground.

Primitive camping preparations: Some waterside sites offer minimal facilities. A Boswell Landing visitor explains, "Quiet basic campground. Has camping spots with fire rings, a toilet and a boat ramp. Beautiful view of the lake and bay."

Tips from RVers

Site orientation challenges: At Paris Landing State Park, "It's a tight fit and our rig is only 22.5' TT. Our back in site was to the left on a one way road that I had to turn around and go opposite way so we could get in," explains one RVer who encountered unusual site layouts.

Power limitations: Electrical hookups vary in reliability and capacity at campgrounds near Springville. The same Paris Landing visitor noted, "Had water and electrical hook up but the 30 amp was fried. Luckily it also had 20 amp so power management was key."

Concrete pads: For those seeking more stable parking, Eagles Nest RV Park offers "all concrete pads with full service utility kiosks. Each campsite has plenty of room and comes with its own patio and cable TV connection."
