Kentucky Lake and the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area attract many RV campers to the campgrounds near Springville, Tennessee. The area sits at approximately 400 feet above sea level and experiences mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures. Most RV parks in the Springville region remain open year-round, though certain amenities may close during winter months when temperatures regularly drop below 40°F.
What to do
Fishing and kayaking: Piney River Resort offers excellent water activities with clear water for fishing. "The water is crystal clear and cold. We sat in beach chairs and let the current wash over us. The swimming hole was great! We loved watching the younger crowd jump off the cliff into the water. Fishing and kayaking too!" shares Elizabeth S.
Swimming in natural waters: The river at Piney River Resort creates natural swimming areas. "We had a wonderful time exploring the property. Full hooks ups and a level pad made setup a breeze. They do a great job keeping the grounds clean and well manicured. Some of the best access to the Piney right here," reports American Streamer S.
Wildlife viewing: Campers can spot various wildlife including deer and eagles. "We enjoyed the lake view from our site plus we saw deer and eagles in the CG during our overnight stay," notes MickandKarla W. at Birmingham Point Campground.
What campers like
Peaceful riverside settings: Campers appreciate quiet locations with water views. "Very peaceful campground right on the river! Staff was very helpful. We stayed at a site with a pavilion right on the river and it was great! Our girls enjoyed swimming, fishing, and kayaking," writes Ashlee B. about Piney River Resort.
Well-maintained grounds: Eagles Nest RV Park receives praise for cleanliness. "The campsite was clean and quiet. Definitely one of the nicest campgrounds that we have seen in the area," says Erich H.
Friendly staff: Campground hosts make a difference in the camping experience. "Campground hosts Shirley and Bobby were just phenomenal. Helpful, kind, and friendly. They assisted in helping us back in and ensured we were good to go. They would personally stop by to check-in," writes Erich H. about Eagles Nest RV Park.
What you should know
Access road challenges: Not all RV parks have easy access routes. "The drive in from the highway was very scary on narrow, windy roads with dropoffs on the side. We took the staff recommended route in and Co-Pilot's route out and both were scary in our Class A towing a car hauler," warns Pat&Amanda D. about Piney River Resort.
Site leveling issues: Some sites require additional equipment for leveling. "We soon found out the site is not level and had to put leveling blocks under our door side wheels as they were off the ground after auto level," reports MickandKarla W.
Cellular coverage: Cell service varies at campgrounds in the area. "The cell signal is not great but they have a tower being installed close by within the next few months. AT&T has about 1 bar up on the hill sites. We have an antenna that boosts our signal and has given us 2-3 bars which is totally usable," says Lindsay L.
Tips for camping with families
River activities for kids: Little Eagle RV Park offers lake access perfect for children. "Nice because it's on the lake. Close to local store," mentions Tanya A.
Kid-friendly swimming areas: Natural swimming holes provide entertainment. "Our girls enjoyed swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Paved sites, fire ring, fire wood for sale, very clean campground, and only 45 mins to Nashville," notes Ashlee B.
Playground availability: Check if campgrounds have playground facilities. "We wished they had a nicer playground area for the kids. I will say that the paperwork they shared with us shows plans to incorporate a new playground," advises Erich H. about Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground.
Tips from RVers
Follow campground directions: GPS may not provide reliable directions to some RV parks. "Follow the directions on their website!" recommends Susan & Kevin W. when visiting Piney River Resort.
RV site selection: Choose sites based on your rig size and needs. "These sites have a small deck with most having a patio table and two chairs. Site 12 has a picnic table, which in our opinion was too large for the space. The site was not long enough for our 40' 5th wheel plus F450 and we were instructed to park across the road," advises MickandKarla W. about Parkers Crossroads.
Water pressure management: Southern comfort RV park and campground offers 50 and 30 amp full hookups. "Pet friendly great place to stay 50 and 30 amp full hookups free WiFi," confirms Joshua C.
