Washington Crossing State Park - TEMP CLOSED FOR 2024

      Revolutionary History near Delaware River

Nestled along the picturesque Delaware River in beautiful Bucks County, Washington Crossing Historic Park is one of those destinations where American history practically jumps out from behind every tree. This sprawling, beautifully preserved historic park commemorates George Washington's daring Christmas night crossing of the Delaware in 1776, with charming colonial buildings, expansive green spaces, shaded walking paths and lovely riverfront scenery. Divided into Upper and Lower sections, the park offers plenty to explore, from historic homesteads and interpretive exhibits to scenic picnic areas and the impressive Bowman's Hill Tower. Unfortunately, while the park delivers a wonderful outdoor experience, traditional overnight camping isn't part of the equation unless your a Boy Scout or accompanying one of their troops.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spectacular Revolutionary War history at the very site of Washington's legendary Delaware River crossing; (2) Beautifully maintained grounds featuring mature trees, open lawns and scenic riverfront views; (3) Fascinating colonial-era buildings, historic demonstrations and educational exhibits that bring America's founding history to life; (4) Wonderful recreational opportunities, including walking, cycling, fishing, kayaking and picnicking; and (5) Convenient proximity to charming New Hope, the Delaware Canal towpath and Bowman's Hill Tower, offering plenty of opportunities to extend your adventure.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) No conventional public tent or RV camping, with overnight group camping restricted to organized Scout groups by prior arrangement; (2) No dedicated RV campsites, electrical hookups, water connections or dump station; (3) Park grounds generally close at sunset, limiting opportunities to linger into the evening; (4) Some historic buildings and attractions require admission fees or operate on limited schedules; and (5) Periodic restoration projects and special events can restrict access to certain areas, while the historic Washington Crossing Bridge's three-ton weight limit makes it unsuitable for larger RVs.

      Happy Camping!

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Round Valley State Park Campground

Peaceful Wilderness Escape for Adventurous Families

There's something wonderfully special about escaping into nature where the only sounds are rustling leaves, birds singing and the gentle movement of water along the shoreline. Nestled among the wooded hills surrounding the beautiful Round Valley Reservoir, this rustic SP campground offers families a chance to disconnect from everyday distractions and enjoy a little wilderness adventure together. Unlike traditional campgrounds, the campsites are accessible only by hiking or boating, so getting anywhere here requires some planning and a willingness to travel light. Once you've arrived, you'll find secluded, wooded campsites with picnic tables, fire rings and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Amenities are basic, with pit toilets and no showers, but the beautiful reservoir, scenic hiking trails, fishing and kayaking opportunities more than make up for the lack of modern conveniences. Our kids loved exploring the woods, spotting wildlife and gathering around a crackling campfire at night to share stories beneath the stars. For families comfortable with the hike, I'd recommend choosing one of the campsites along the reservoir shoreline for the lovely water views and peaceful surroundings. Just remember that swimming is limited to the park's designated beach area. Round Valley isn't your typical family campground, but for adventurous families who enjoy hiking, camping under the stars and making wonderful memories together, it's a beautiful place to experience nature at its finest!

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

      Pine Barrens New Jersey

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Simple, peaceful FHU

We stayed just a couple nights here on our way north. The camp host was helpful before our stay and during check-in. Our site was pretty isolated from the others, so it was very quiet (no complaints here). There is a decent mix of sunny sites by the river and shady sites under the trees. The weather was perfect mid September. There wasn't anything spectacular for me, but it was a good experience and it was a nice taste of fall PA scenery. Beware that the roads are tight for a big rig. Side note, it did seem like most campers lived there.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Beautiful campground, loud campers

Beautiful campground but made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend, the campgrounds next to us were screaming and blasting music all day and throughout the night so we ended up leaving early. A beautiful campground when there aren’t noisy capers ruining it.

    Guide to Springtown

Traditional and luxury camping options abound near Springtown, Pennsylvania, located in the rolling hills of Bucks County. This area sits at elevations between 400-1,000 feet with moderate seasonal temperatures that allow camping from April through November. Most campsites in this region experience rapid temperature drops after sunset, especially in spring and fall, requiring proper layering even during warm-weather camping trips.

    What to do

Disc golf adventures: Boulder Woods Campground offers an extensive disc golf course that attracts enthusiasts from around the region. "They have a very large golf disc course and they seem to have tournaments. They sell disc golf things in the store as well. This course is huge and brings in groups who play for the day," notes one visitor who appreciated the recreational opportunities.

Fishing opportunities: Green Lane Park provides multiple fishing spots for anglers of all experience levels. A camper shared, "I caught a beautiful Brown Trout here a few weeks ago! Great park. (I put the Trout back in, it was very healthy and I managed to get the hook out quickly, otherwise he would have been dinner!)" The park requires a fishing license with a trout endorsement, currently $9.90 for the additional permit.

Water activities: At French Creek State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy two different lakes. As one camper explains, "There are two lakes, Scotts Run Lake and Hopewell Lake that you can fish, kayak, canoe or just relax by. There are several warm water fish in the lakes including northern pike, chain pickerel, bass, walleye, muskellunge and several types of panfish." The lakes allow ice fishing in winter months with monitored ice thickness.

    What campers like

Private, spacious sites: Many luxury glamping accommodations near Springtown provide ample site privacy. One visitor to French Creek State Park appreciated that "the campsites are not right on top of one another. There is a lot of shade and the campground is laid out well." The park's design incorporates natural vegetation barriers between many sites, creating a more secluded camping experience.

Clean facilities: At Tohickon Family Campground, guests appreciate the well-maintained amenities. A recent visitor noted, "Nice new gravel and hook ups. Spacious sites. Large stream with fishing. WiFi good." The campground provides a rustic setting with modern conveniences, making it suitable for both traditional camping and glamping experiences near Springtown.

Year-round access: Unlike many seasonal operations, some glamping sites offer extended season access. At French Creek State Park, a winter camper reported, "Stayed over for one night in early December. Showers and bathrooms were great! If you're traveling through, there are many places to eat nearby. I'm a women in my thirties traveling alone and I felt very safe here." This accessibility allows for glamping experiences even in cooler months.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most glamping sites near Springtown fill quickly. At Evansburg State Park Campground, organized camping requires advance planning. Access to popular sites can be limited, as one visitor noted, "Since camping is only open to organized camping I've never camped at Evansburg." Always check reservation policies before planning your trip.

Weather considerations: The region's terrain can create challenging conditions after rainfall. One camper at Tohickon Family Campground warned, "We had a great Halloween weekend but we were down by creek so it was very muddy." Sites near water features may require additional preparation during wet seasons.

Site selection importance: Not all sites at the same campground offer equal experiences. A visitor to Green Lane Park observed, "The campgrounds are clean but the sites are way too close together and there is not any privacy." Research specific site locations before booking to ensure your glamping experience meets expectations.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Boulder Woods Campground offers excellent facilities for children. One family noted, "We had a great weekend. Enjoyed a nice long weekend out of the city. Clean amenities. Will be coming back!" The campground's play areas provide entertainment options beyond natural exploration.

Multiple bathroom facilities: When glamping with children, bathroom proximity matters. At Boulder Woods, a visitor appreciated that "there are a few bath houses that make the large campground have easy access to the bathrooms." This feature reduces long walks for younger campers, especially at night.

Safety considerations: Many luxury glamping sites near Springtown maintain regular staff presence. A camper at Tohickon Valley County Park shared, "Park rangers routinely will check up on you to make sure things are going well, I've never had that experience before but they have been kind the 2 times I have been their." This oversight adds an additional safety layer for family camping.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup options: Quakerwoods Campground offers comprehensive services for RV glamping. A visitor reported, "All RV and tent sites are relatively flat and include a standard-issued picnic table and in-ground fold-up fire ring." The campground features 170 mostly back-in slots with full hook-ups (30/50 amp electric, water and sewage).

Site leveling: French Creek State Park provides prepared spaces for easier setup. A camper mentioned, "All sites have a paved level area which made set up a breeze." This feature saves time and effort when establishing your glamping site, particularly important for larger RVs or trailers.

Seasonal considerations: Some luxury camping areas have seasonal restrictions. As one Tohickon Family Campground visitor noted, "It's close to state park and the Ringing Rocks. We enjoyed our stay." This campground operates from April 1 to October 31, typical of many glamping options in the region.
