Best RV Parks & Resorts near Bethany, PA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks near Bethany, Pennsylvania provide year-round and seasonal camping options with varying amenities. Tri-State RV Park in Matamoras features big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp electrical hookups, full sewer connections, and water hookups for self-contained units. Clayton Park RV Escape in Lake Ariel operates from May through mid-October with similar full hookup capabilities and boat access. Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North and South in East Stroudsburg accommodate large motorhomes with 50-amp service, though sites at Timothy Lake North received lower ratings for layout and accessibility. "Even though I had a boo boo, they were very forgiving. It was a nice welcoming place, I would go back again," noted one visitor about Clayton Park RV Escape.

Mountain roads throughout the region can present navigation challenges for longer rigs, particularly during winter months when some campgrounds close entirely. Most parks provide sanitary dump stations, though Timothy Lake South notably lacks this feature according to campground data. Pets are generally welcome at RV sites, with all listed parks showing pet-friendly policies. Reservation requirements vary by season, with summer and fall foliage periods demanding advance bookings. A recent review described Lackawanna State Park as having "pull-in sites for RVs" among its accommodations, while mentioning the park was "very neat and well manicured." Depending on location, cell service may fluctuate significantly, especially in more remote forested areas where topography affects coverage.

    Stony MT Family Campground

    We’d do it again!

Not cheap but we’ll within area norms. This camp has many long term campers that are friendly and helpful and some have children with them. Some full-time rigs are weekend campers. Some weekend events are planned. Most sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric only so if needed have an adapter (available at the small camp store. We had an unplanned extension on our visit that included a weekend where a group was scheduled and the park was booked including our site. The friendly staff worked to ensure a temporary site for us for the weekend.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Chenango Valley State Park Campground

Well maintained NY state campground; good for family camping

We were just passing through on a rainy night, but this park would be a good choice for a multi-night stay.

    Activities for a Multi-Day Stay

    • Swimming in the lake, golfing, boating, fishing, multi-use trails for hiking or mountain biking

    • You're only about 20 minutes from the Binghamton/Johnson City area. For us, that means food and craft beer.

Sites in the Chipmunk Camping Area

    • Parking pads in the non-electric section are dirt/grass. Some of the pads are short; this section is geared toward tent campers. We found a site long enough to easily accommodate our vehicle and teardrop trailer (30 ft total) since we didn't want to detach for a one night stay. Even if the pad wasn't that long, there are other pads wide enough to handle a vehicle and trailer like ours side by side.

    • Parking pads in the electric loops (30 amps and 50 amps) have a good amount of gravel.

    • We usually prefer sites on the outer part of a loop, and this was no exception. The sites have more trees.

    Amenities

    • Electricity at about 1/3 of the sites

    • Pretty good restrooms/showers

    • Water spigots on the loops and more water at the dump station

    • Trash disposal

    • Playground at the beach area, not the campground

    Wildlife

    • Beware of raccoons. They are brazen thieves here...and every campground they inhabit. Just don't leave your food out.

    • The park brochure warns of the occasional bear but that's true even in towns all over NY. I doubt you'll see one.

    • Deer are all over. Watch out for them on the roads. We had four that were feeding behind our site in the morning.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

    Tobyhanna State Park Campground

    Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

    Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

    Montrose Campground

Family and pet friendly year-around campground

We tried this campground a few times for short stays and ended up going seasonal last year and will do the same this year. It is a little off the beaten path but is great for families (plenty of activities for kids) and pets (our dog LOVES it there). They have a pool, fishing pond, hiking trails, mini golf, playground, large grassy areas for kids to play, and horseshoe pits. There is a store (stocked with grocery staples/snacks but also TONS of RV specific supplies/parts), laundry and showers (a new and improved bath house is currently being built). There are planned activities almost every weekend during the 'season' but they are open all year with some winter sites available. They have all sites available from tent right up to 50 amp full hook-ups. I can't wait for the new season to begin in April!

    Happy Days Campground

Quiet, wooded, natural, lots to do in the area!

We stayed at Happy Days from Friday to Monday with our 21 foot travel trailer. Site P6. Pretty level site. We liked this site and the one next to it the best out of all of the sites. George at the camp store was so helpful and we watched him actively keeping up on and taking care of the campground cleaning, etc. the entire time. Showers had great pressure and bathrooms were super clean. We showered after a Spartan Race Mud Run and they were great. Scenic spot, mature trees, we could hear foxes communicating at night. Firewood available at camp store $7 a bundle. No sewer on sites, but has a dump station. Water pressure at the site was very good. Old school playground for kids, volleyball court. The rec hall had a piano, pool table, ping pong table and more. Close to dining, Kauneonga Lake and Callicoon Farmers Market among others. We will be back!

Guide to Bethany

RV camping near Bethany, Pennsylvania offers diverse camping experiences in the Pocono Mountain region where elevations range between 1,200-1,800 feet. The Delaware River creates natural boundaries for many campgrounds, providing water recreation opportunities alongside woodland camping. Summer temperatures typically reach 75-85°F during day with cooler evenings dropping to 55-65°F.

What to do

River activities: Access the Delaware River from Soaring Eagle Campground with canoe, kayak and tube rentals for day trips. "Nice campground right on the Delaware river great for fisherman, hikers also great for tubing down the Delaware or canoeing," notes one visitor to Soaring Eagle Campground.

Swimming options: Keen Lake Resort offers both lake swimming and pool access, providing flexibility for families. "My kids really loved having a pool to swim in, in addition to the lake," shares a camper who appreciates the dual swimming options.

Hiking trails: Promised Land State Park provides access to multiple trails of varying difficulty. "Hiked 2 short easy trails (Little Falls and the Conservation Nature Loop- which we drove to). Absolutely beautiful!" reports a camper at Lower Lake Campground.

Fishing spots: Multiple campgrounds offer fishing access, with Keen Lake Resort being particularly popular. "The kids caught multiple sunnies and even a small perch," mentions one visitor who enjoyed lake fishing with family.

What campers like

Large campsites: Campers frequently mention the spaciousness at Soaring Eagle Campground. "Sites are huge, plenty of room for 2+ family campers," notes one reviewer who appreciated the extra space for group camping.

Clean facilities: Keen Lake Resort Campground maintains exceptionally clean amenities. "The bathrooms were the cleanest we've ever experienced at a campground," reports a camper who was impressed with the maintenance standards.

Natural settings: Despite offering hookups and amenities, many campsites maintain wooded surroundings. "It still manages to maintain a more remote and rustic feel by preserving the trees, stream and riverfront property in a mutual state without concrete pads or driveways," explains a regular visitor to Soaring Eagle.

Family-friendly atmosphere: Organized activities keep children engaged. "They have activity coordinators that make sure there is something to do for all ages every hour of the day!" shares a seasonal camper at Keen Lake Resort.

What you should know

Cell service limitations: Coverage varies significantly by carrier and location. "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," reports a camper at Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South.

Seasonal operations: Many campgrounds close during winter months. Keen Lake Resort operates from April 26 to October 14, while Soaring Eagle Campground runs from May 1 to Columbus Day.

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons. "We stayed here over 4th of July so the pool was pretty full during the weekend so we decided to utilize the lake for those days and enjoyed the pool during the week once some of the weekenders left," advises a visitor at Keen Lake.

Weather considerations: Rain can create challenging conditions at some sites. "Worst part though was when I did go and camp out for a week near the small pond part it rained and our campsite turned into a complete mud pit," warns a Keen Lake visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Skyway Camping Resort offers dedicated facilities for children. "Nice pool, this is a good family campground for kids. It's large with nice size sites," mentions a summer visitor.

Multiple recreation options: Having alternatives keeps everyone entertained regardless of weather. "This is a great place to bring an RV. Great for families. It would be a great place to camp with extended family," suggests a camper at Keen Lake.

Safety considerations: Some campgrounds provide added security measures. "The security is great and patrol to make sure quiet hours are quiet to be courteous to other campers that want quiet time," explains a seasonal camper at Keen Lake Resort.

Pet policies: Most campgrounds allow pets but have specific areas designated for them. "Pet friendly. They have a beach for swimming with your dogs," notes a visitor to Keen Lake Resort who appreciated the dedicated pet swimming area.

Tips from RVers

Highway noise concerns: Tri-State RV Park offers convenient access but with noise tradeoffs. "Located just off the highway so lots of vehicle noise 24/7. Sites are on a gravel lot," warns one RVer about the ambient noise.

Winter camping options: Limited year-round options exist for cold-weather camping. "Open during the winter. Easy on, easy off. Lots of pull through sites. CLEAN bathrooms, showers, laundry. Super nice owners," recommends a winter visitor to Tri-State RV Park.

Water pressure variations: Check pressure ratings before connecting equipment. "Best water pressure I have seen on the east coast, unregulated it's over 80 psi," cautions a camper at Timothy Lake South who recommends using regulators.

Site selection strategies: Research specific site characteristics before booking. "If you're booking, it may be best to book on the upper levels because the lower area where we were did flood pretty bad a couple times when there was a lot of rain," advises a visitor at Mountain Top RV Park.
