Best RV Parks & Resorts near Arendtsville, PA

Several RV campgrounds surround Gettysburg, providing convenient access to Arendtsville. Drummer Boy Camping Resort offers full hookup RV sites with 50-amp service, water, sewer, and cable connections from April through October. The sites accommodate large motorhomes with big-rig friendly access. Round Top Campground provides electric, water, and sewer hookups for RVs with drive-in access. "Sites look to be semi private in a lot of pictures but that isn't the case. We had a full hook up with our 15ft travel trailer. Pretty tight even with my Tacoma," noted one visitor about the Gettysburg KOA. Artillery Ridge Campground features 50/30-amp service with full hookups and pull-through sites that can handle larger RVs.

Advance reservations are essential during peak seasons, particularly in fall when Gettysburg attracts history enthusiasts. Most RV parks in the region maintain gravel pads that may require leveling blocks, especially after rain. According to one camper, "Our Pull-thru FHU Patio site had a serious slope. It was impossible to level my 45' motorhome without elevating the front wheels dangerously in the air." Dump stations are available at most parks, though Western Village RV Park and Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm offer year-round access. Cell service varies throughout the area, with stronger signals closer to towns. Pet-friendly sites exist at most parks, though some charge additional fees. Propane refill services can be found at Pinch Pond Family Campground and several other locations within driving distance of Arendtsville.

    Ramblin' Pines

    Good location to Baltimore/Frederick Attractions

We stay at Ramblin Pines because it is close to family and a good proximity to visiting Baltimore and Frederick. The campground is quite large with lots of seasonal sites but there are some transient spaces that can accommodate big-rigs. In addition to RV sites, there are tent sites and cabins.

We stayed in one of the transient sites (#FR14) across from the RV storage lot. It was a long gravel back-in with 50-amp FHU. The water hook-up is in a pit so it doesn’t freeze so look under the cover. It can be a bit difficult to reach and you have to get on the ground to hook-up. Based on the location of the spigot, we were not able to attach our water filter (we drank the tap water anyway and it was good). The electric worked fine and were able to reach the sewer with our 20’ hose. The view out of our front window was of the storage lot which was not the most scenic. However, parking in the FR row is the easiest place for big-rigs to park since some roads in the park are tight and hard to navigate with the trees and with the two-way traffic.

There are lots of amenities and it seems some people come here for the activities and things to do. It is a destination for many campers. They have lots of themed events, the most popular being the entire month of October celebrating like Halloween. They set up a haunted walk through the woods, have pumpkin carving, trick or treating, a costume contest, haunted hayride, and site decoration contest every weekend. If you want to camp on the weekends– book early because we found it very difficult to get a reservation during October and you have to pay in full and there are no refunds for cancellations. Other weekends have live music, bingo, hayrides, cornhole tournaments, crafts, and more. Basically, there is something every weekend.

Huge fishing pond, shuffleboard, horseshoes, large dog park with agility, game room, playgrounds, jump pillow, heated swimming pool, and exercise room (which was decent but didn’t have a television to occupy your time), 18-hole mini golf. A short but nice hiking trail winds through the woods and is nice for walking dogs. There is a large covered pavilion with picnic tables for big gatherings. There is free Wi-Fi but it doesn’t reach sites in the back of the campground. Wi-Fi is great if you are near the office/store. The camp store is fairly large with some food/beverage items, t-shirts, large amount of RV supplies, and misc. other items. There is a coffee maker with free coffee.

Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA

More "glamping" than camping, but great for families!

This campground is huge, and very crowded. We were there in the days leading up to 4th of July, and there was not a single empty site. Our section had mostly pop-ups and mid-size travel trailers, so the sites were all grass and gravel. However, the area with pull-through sites for big rigs was just a huge RV parking lot. All roads were very narrow and winding. We did fine with the pup, but can’t imagine trying to navigate a large motorhome through there. Crowding/space issues aside, this is a really nice (albeit expensive) campground. Almost everything, from the grounds, to rec halls, to pool and laundry, was sparkling clean and beautifully maintained. Bathrooms were reasonably clean as well, although they could certainly use some TLC and updating (most MD state park bathhouses are nicer).Staff was very friendly, as well. Tons of stuff to do here, especially for families: arts & crafts, indoor movie theatre, games, civil war reenactments, wine tastings, etc. We were certainly never bored, and the kids thought they had died and gone to heaven. Our site was extremely close to our neighbor's site, but still surprisingly roomy and decently shaded. We were right next to the pancake hut (free daily pancake breakfast included during the on-season) and playground, and very close to other activities. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is just a stone's throw away, with great hiking, sight-seeing, and cute little shops.

Overall, this is a really nice place, but much more of a resort than a campground in my opinion. The kids loved it, but I’ll always prefer the wooded seclusion of a state or national park. However, if I was looking for a more action-packed, activities-filled “glamping” experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport MD

    KID FRIENDLY

This is a huge campground geared around kids. We didn't bring any with us this time and were just staying here overnight. We are in pull through site 753, pretty level gravel site, full hookups, picnic table and fire ring. The site wasn't well cleaned, grease dumped in the gravel, dead grass, lots of stink bugs! Also had to finagle the cable line to get it to work. There are very clean showers and restrooms, large camp store, restaurant, mining for kids, Waterpark, and pool. Many cabins, pull through, back in, and tent sites.

    Thousand Trails Hershey

    Convenient to Hersheypark

The campground is part of Hershey and as such offers good discounts to Hersheypark. While it offers nice amenities and a shuttle to Hersheypark, the campground itself is very tight, cramped, and hard to navigate. The sites are so small that many tow vehicles have to park partially on the narrow access roads making it difficult to get in and out of with a big rig.

We stayed here in a Class A motor home.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

Awesome campground while exploring Gettysburg Battlefield!

We couldn't have been more pleased with this campground! The usual variety of sites, back-in and pull through, 50/30/20 amp service with full hookups.  Cable has the usual channels, about 20, available for $2.00 per night.  WIFI is free and we had good service, even though we were quite far from the office.  The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room.  A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did.  Located about 4 miles from town it is far enough for that country feel but close enough to be convenient.  The camp store was well stocked with basic needs as was the gift shop.  Trash is picked up daily, just leave it at the entrance to your site when you leave in the morning.  Cell service wasn't the best, Verizon had about 2 bars.  I can't say enough good things about the staff, from check-in and being escorted to our site with help backing in to filling up the propane on the way out everyone was courteous and helpful.  We felt secure at all times, and noticed a staff member frequently driving through on a golf cart.  A dog playground, kiddie playground, pool, putt putt, and other activities for the family.  All in all a very positive experience and a definite thumbs up for this campground!!

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    Little Buffalo State Park Campground

A Hidden Gem In Central PA

The campground has approximately 35 sites, most with water and electric, which is rare for many PA state parks. The sites are mostly level, gravel, and good sized for averaged sized RV’s. Larger rigs may have some issues with site length on a few sites, so check ahead of time, but there are a couple pull through sites. Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site, but no wifi in the campground area. We did have cell phone service at our campsite.

The sites along the outer side of the look are more wooded than the inner sites.  The bathhouse is modern, very clean and well maintained. A playground is near bathhouse in the campground, along with several hiking trails. The dump station is easily accessible. Firewood is also available for purchase at the campground.

The campground is located across the road from the actual state park, which is beautiful and well maintained. A large lake is the centerpiece surrounded by multiple hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large swimming pool/aquatics area (in season). The road going to the park and campground is well maintained, with very wide shoulders for easy access, biking, and running. Fishing and boat rental are available on the lake.

We had a wonderful weekend at LBSP and plan to include it on our “Go-To” places to visit and camp.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

    Camping Gem Near the Battlefields

We had a great stay at Gettysburg/ Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service.

Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields.

From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel(which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area.

Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries.

    Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

    THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

    1. Beautifully landscaped site

    2. Well maintained and clean campground

    3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

    Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

Basic amenities and activities for the average camper

Large campground with electric RV/camper sites as well as non-electric tent sites. Several bathroom and shower facilities. Lake-side sites are available and each site comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and parking spot. Friendly staff, decently maintained. There were several planks missing from our picnic table and the parking spot was a mud hole. Some pet friendly sites are available as well. A snapping turtle stopped by for a visit at our campsite and ended up laying eggs! Quite a sight to see, there is plenty of wildlife around to enjoy during your stay.

Guide to Arendtsville

Arendtsville sits at the northern edge of Adams County, Pennsylvania, with an elevation of approximately 640 feet. The region experiences four distinct seasons, with summer temperatures typically reaching the mid-80s°F and winter lows dropping to the 20s. Campers visiting RV sites near Arendtsville, Pennsylvania often encounter partially shaded camping areas surrounded by apple orchards, as Adams County ranks fourth in apple production nationwide.

What to do

Historic tours beyond Gettysburg: While staying at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, venture beyond the battlefields. "We haven't traveled into historic Gettysburg yet, but it's not too far from here," notes Kasey M., who enjoyed the farm's proximity to regional attractions.

Battlefield photography at dawn: Early morning light creates dramatic shadows across the monuments at Gettysburg. "Artillery Ridge is close to the battlefields and has all the fun of larger campgrounds," shares Cathy D. about Artillery Ridge Campground, which sits adjacent to battlefield land that "served as an artillery storage/staging area for the Union during the battle."

Fishing opportunities: Multiple campgrounds offer catch-and-release fishing ponds for campers seeking outdoor recreation near their campsites. "Great place to go fishing!" says Anna H. about her experience at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm. Visitors can also fish in local streams with proper Pennsylvania fishing licenses.

What campers like

Farm animal interactions: Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm stands out for its working farm environment. "We came amidst COVID-19, so the many activities and events this location usually holds are down, BUT there is still fun to be had here! We've enjoyed mini-golf, feeding the animals, 'hiking' through the cornfield, fishing, and campfires," writes Kasey M. Another visitor, Robert M., adds: "Got a kick out of the children playing with the kids (baby goats) pigs, goats, chickens, horses and even lamas."

Riverside camping experiences: At Harpers Ferry Campground, campers enjoy direct water access. "The sounds of the farm animals all around was fun and amusing for us. It was an easy hike as suggested on the map to circle around and through the cornfield, you get a great view of the farms nearby and the river," shares Mary H. Another camper notes, "It is right on the river so you can go swimming right from your campsite!"

Clean facilities: Multiple reviewers highlight well-maintained bathhouses as important features when choosing campsites near Arendtsville. "The batthouse near the pool left a little something to be desired. It wasn't filthy but also wasn't sparking clean," mentions Ruth about Harpers Ferry, providing useful comparison information for those prioritizing amenities.

What you should know

Train noise considerations: Several campgrounds in the region have railroad tracks nearby. At Harpers Ferry Campground, one camper reports: "There is no separate between the sites (kids ran through ours a few times ripping out our guy lines) and you can hear all radios and all the conversations of your neighbors. The river views were amazing, but face the other way and you're looking at a 15 or so foot CSX rail line berm. The trains that come through here almost hourly range from quick commuter MARC or Amtrak trains to long freight trains."

Shooting range proximity: Pinch Pond Family Campground offers convenient motorhome accommodations but has an unexpected noise source. "This campground has nice large sites, shade and sunny, full hookups, clean pool, playground, super clean laundry room and bathrooms. The only thing that is negative is that there is a shooting range right next door. It is pretty consistent from lunch to dinner," warns Tara N.

Site leveling challenges: Many camping spots in the Adams County area require leveling equipment. Kathy L. notes at Pinch Pond: "Sites well maintained but ours wasn't level." Prepare by bringing leveling blocks if traveling with a trailer or motorhome to RV parks around Arendtsville.

Tips for camping with families

Animal experiences for kids: Children particularly enjoy the farm setting at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm. "The kids LOVED the animals and we fed them at the allotted time every morning and went to visit at other times," shares melissa. Michael J. adds: "Great park and probably still one of our kids favorites after being on the road for over a year this one easily stands out as a must stop!"

Playground proximity considerations: Consider campsite placement relative to play areas. At Artillery Ridge, one family observed: "The only complain we had was people walking through our sites due us being close to the playground and the noise level on the playground but other than that it was quiet place and everyone was lovely to work with during our stay."

Summer pool availability: Many campgrounds offer swimming options during hot months. "The pool was great, especially camping with younger kids," notes Ruth about her stay at Gettysburg Farm. However, operation schedules vary seasonally, so call ahead to confirm amenities are open during your planned visit.

Tips from RVers

Site sizing and pull-through availability: Round Top Campground offers varied site options. "Sites have reasonable spacing with gravel pads, mostly level. Trees between sites with sloping hills, not just a big open field," reports John L. Another camper mentions: "Our site was clean and wooded. We had friendly couples from out of state on either side of us."

Water pressure variations: Several RV sites near Arendtsville experience water pressure fluctuations. "Water pressure is low, road traffic noise. Water and electric are in award spot on our site," notes Alice G. about Round Top Campground. Check with campground staff about recommended water pressure regulators for your specific site.

Seasonal operational limitations: Not all campgrounds offer year-round accommodations. "We were there around Halloween and they had decorated the park so nicely," says Mary H. about Gettysburg Farm, indicating special seasonal offerings. Most campgrounds in the region close between November and March, with limited winter camping options available.
