    Fort Stevens State Park Campground

    RV-camping

Loved this State Park! The trails around it were fun and led from the camp right up to the beach by the old ship wreck. My kids ages 2-14 always had something to do and we brought our bikes. The camping sites and RV sites are cheap compared to Utah, Washington and Idaho rates, but they were also very nice! A little close together but nice. You have to book your site months in advance at this place because it fills up fast. So much to do in this area! Close to seaside, the fort Stevens retired military site was free and interesting-with a scavenger hunt and prize at the end for the kids who complete it. Also, close to Astoria which also has many things to do! Loved that it was close enough to drive over the Columbia River to get to Washington to see the light houses!

    Cannon Beach RV Resort

    Walk to Haystack Rock

Just east of Hwy 101 in Cannon Beach, this RV resort is an easy (really!) 10 minute walk to the beach, just north of Haystack Rock. A sidewalk underpass under 101 and a path through a small city park makes it a family-friendly, dog-friendly walk to the outstanding beach sunsets. A bit longer walk (or easy bike ride) takes you into the heart of Cannon Beach with all the restaurants, ice cream shops, galleries, coffee shops and candy stores. Campground is open year round, has full hook-ups, good wifi, well managed and maintained, has an indoor pool and hot tub (pool facility was closed during covid, check on availability) decent bath houses (also closed during covid), nice sites with lots of tall trees. They also sell propane, firewood and have a gas station. (And they even have an electric car charging station, if you need it) Fun fact: In the winter months you will likely see the local elk herd around town. Note: no tents allowed and our ATT service only has one bar at our site. Would definitely recommend this place for RV camping.

Circle Creek RV Park & Campground

Dog friendly open space near Seaside

Large RV campground just south of town. Very quiet. Friendly staff. Dog friendly including a fenced off dog run! The pups were happy to stretch their legs. Clean bathrooms and warm showers. Laundry on site. We stayed on the grass over in boondock side. Level sites. If you need power/water...those sites looked large and had decent amount of space between. We showed up after office hours and we’re still able to snag a spot.

    Cannon Beach RV Resort

    Elk Bugles and Chuckles

Tucked away in the trees of Cannon Beach is this nice little RV Resort. All amenities were top notch for your needs at a park. The Elk greeted us and were eating all the flowers as we entered. Gas station, propane, laundry, showers, convenience store, pool and two shower/restroom facilities. Paved parking spots with fire pit, picnic tables and full hookup.

    Fort Stevens State Park Campground

Lots to do in this State Park

The state park (SP) was fairly easy to find as there are SP signs well before the park, and all the way to the park regardless of which direction you are coming in from. WAZE and our RV GPS wanted to take us down other streets, but we held the course following the signs. There are multiple ways to get to the park, but the signs lead you to the most RV friendly roads. We turned into the park entrance, where there was a huge parking lot and a sign to register. Check-in was quick and easy. Our cost was an $8 online booking fee, with both of us having the Oregon State Park Disabled Veteran Pass. This pass provides 10 days of free camping per month to disabled veterans, resident or non-resident. We proceeded right out of the parking lot and to the H loop, where we drove to site H10 with FHUs. This is an old loop with lots of trees, but the road was passable with our 40’ fifth wheel. However, site H10 has a brush on the driver’s side and low-hanging trees on the passenger side. It’s a tight back-in, and you have to hit the pad exactly to keep from scraping the driver’s side, and we brushed branches on our 13.5’ roof. After several tries and some minor scraping, we got into the site. We asked a park ranger if we could trim the branches so they wouldn’t scrape the roof, especially in the wind. The ranger gave us permission to hand trim. On select loops(there’s a sign as you exit the registration parking lot on where) they sell firewood by the camp host areas for $7 a bundle. They also sell kindling for $4 a bundle. The water pressure was okay, and we had no issues with the sewer or electric. As we were here for two weeks and football junkies, we tried to get Starlink to connect with no luck as there were too many trees. We had 2 bars on Verizon, so we were able to get some internet with our MiFi. Fort Stevens is a huge campground with a variety of site sizes and utility options. The best loop for big rigs, in our opinion, is the newer O loop(water and electric 50/30/20 AMP only) that doesn’t have as many trees or shrubs between sites. The O loop’s even-numbered sites 2-26 are big-rig friendly and open enough to provide satellite shots, especially for Starlink. In general, just our opinion, loops B, C, D, E, F, G& M, are better suited for tents and/or shorter rigs(up to 35’). Class A's and 5th wheels may have trouble with overhead branches. Loops I, J, and N have plenty of sites that will fit big rigs, but read reviews as loops I and J are heavily wooded with overhead branches and brush/shrubs separating sites like in the H loop. There are a ton of trails to walk or bike. We really enjoyed all that Fort Stevens State Park has to offer, with a side benefit being all the elk roaming around the campground and deer hanging out at our campsite.

Andersen's Oceanside RV Park & Cottages

    Please read

This is long but I wish someone wrote it so I knew what I was atleast spending our money on. I’ll first write about the website and how it lies and then my experience, with pictures. For context, we have a 43-foot fifth wheel that stands at a standard height of 13’6”, totaling approximately 60 feet in length with our truck. Discrepancies in Site Descriptions: Forested Sites: 1. The website advertised three large grassy areas. In reality, one was occupied by the campsite manager. Though there are two sites remaining, the one closest to the store backs up into low-hanging branches that could easily damage our solar panels and things on top and was not in an area or wide enough for us to back in our 43’ fifth wheel. 2. Amazing for Slides: The two available sites might work for slides, but the most narrow spot would have posed a significant risk. Which is the one we were supposed to have. If you don’t have slide toppers, your slides would be filled with leaves and branches. 3. Size Claims: The website states sites are 100'x50'. The owner specifically state that they are 70'x20' and none of the sites are100’x50’. 4. Surface Quality: The site closest to the store was somewhat gravel, but weeds were growing over it. Further back, it became more uneven, with slopes and hills leading into grass rather than a proper gravel pad. 5. Connectivity: The advertised satellite, TV, and Wi-Fi were virtually non-existent. Wi-Fi in the other areas was terrible, leading to frustrating experiences trying to connect. 6. Fire Pit: We booked a spot with a fire pit, which we were told would be moved to our site from the forested area. However, we never received it. Thankfully, we brought our own. Prime Sites: 1. Surrounding Environment: Claims of being quietly surrounded by grassy dunes and playful pines are misleading. While there are sand dunes, the pines are very far from the sites; you are primarily in a campground without immediate tree access. 2. Proximity to Beach: this was accurate it was a nice walk 3. Size: Again, the owner mentioned that all sites are 70'x20,' contradicting the 100'x20' claim online. Our fifth wheel did not fit adequately, forcing us to deal with dirt and litter behind us. 4. Patio Description: The site described a sand entry on their site and a beauty-barked entry when you go to book. It is in fact sand which is why I purposely booked the forested site 5. Wi-Fi Quality: Rather than excellent Wi-Fi, we experienced frequent disconnections, and often it only worked late at night when the campground was quiet. Overall Experience: Upon arrival, I was met with the owner stating that we didn’t need to get out of the truck, which seemed convenient at first. However, once led to the incorrect site, I expressed our booking for a forest site, only to be told they preferred to place us elsewhere because of our size(which we did specify during booking) The roads were a bit narrow for turning around a big rig despite them saying big rig friendly, and backing into a suitable site required a three-point turn, making it an complicated process. When I approached the office regarding a refund for the site difference, the owner reeked of pot(I usually don’t care but I would rather do business with someone sober than argue with someone stoned). the owner was immediately confrontational and dismissive. Despite my attempts to explain the situation, he insisted that all sites were the same and refused to acknowledge the misleading size and price differences. His behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable. When I asked him about price and size difference he kept saying it was all the same and the only difference was the forested site got a fireplace for free and it would follow me however we never did get it. How wife at one time during the argument came out and said she would give us a refund for the difference and he told her to shut the hell up. He then told us to either take what we were given(at the lesser price) or take a full refund and leave. I later discovered that the owner has a history of confrontations, as noted in various reviews, which further dampened our experience. In conclusion, the forest and prime sites are not worth the price of$125 per night. I also never received the promised fireplace, which was an additional disappointment. Having booked in March for an August stay and specifically choosing the forested site, I expected a much better experience. Overall the difference in price between what I booked and what I got was$135 for the 4 nights.

    Fort Stevens State Park Campground

    Wish we brought our bikes

We are a group of two traveling with a truck towing a 21 foot trailer. We booked a pull through site (plenty of these and more back-ins) and it fit boats the truck and trailer. All parking spots are well marked. Clean area with picnic table and fire pit. Something to note is we wish we brought our bikes. The park is so big and we didn’t get to explore beyond the RV parking area into the state park area. If you have a chance visit the maritime museum in Astoria. There’s also a laundromat outside the park that we’d definitely use again. It was super clean and convenient to get to.

Guide to Tolovana Park

Seasonal RV parks near Tolovana Park operate in a climate marked by mild summers and rainy winters. Winter temperatures range from 40-55°F while summer brings 60-70°F days with moderate rainfall year-round. Local campgrounds vary in size from small 9-site facilities to larger resorts with nearly 100 hookup sites.

What to do

Crabbing and fishing access: Jetty Fishery Marina & RV Park offers direct access to seafood collection. "You can rent items to go crabbing or just eat some of their fresh clams, oysters and crab. We did a bit both! Staff is friendly and hard working," notes Jaime K. The marina provides crab cooking services for campers who catch their own.

Bird watching opportunities: Spring through early summer brings excellent bird migration viewing opportunities. "Bird migration spring through early summer is a highlight. Haystack rock is picturesque and volunteers can point out highlights. Don't forget low tide for tidepooling," advises Misty Z. at Cannon Beach.

Short walks to coastal attractions: Most local campgrounds provide convenient access to beaches and towns. A camper at Cannon Beach RV Resort shares, "Just east of Hwy 101 in Cannon Beach, this RV resort is an easy (really!) 10 minute walk to the beach, just north of Haystack Rock. A sidewalk underpass under 101 and a path through a small city park makes it a family-friendly, dog-friendly walk."

What campers like

Coastal wildlife viewing: The area offers regular wildlife encounters. "In the winter months you will likely see the local elk herd around town," reports Mari H. At Sunset Lake Campground, another visitor noted, "We saw a huge blue herron and later a pair of bald eagles. Deer were grazing in the field right across the street from the camp entrance."

Freshwater recreation options: Not all campgrounds limit activities to ocean access. One Thousand Trails visitor explains, "The park has all the normal facilities and amenities. It is separated by a road creating one side with wooded sites and the other side a more barren environment." Several RV parks include pools and indoor recreation facilities.

Authentic coastal town atmosphere: Harborview Inn and RV Park provides authentic working port ambiance. "Rv Park located in industrial area, logging, commercial and recreational fishing, cool area. Can't wait to explore town and do some crabbing. They rent cab rings and there are 2 different docks to crab from," explains Bruce.

What you should know

Off-season availability: Many Tolovana Park RV campgrounds operate with reduced services during winter. "We visited during COVID so a lot of stuff was limited to reservation or closed. It was still nice. Great proximity to town," notes C.M. Winter camping offers more solitude but potentially limited amenities.

Road conditions vary: Access roads at some facilities need attention. "In November 2020 the road into the park was rough and full of many pot holes but had lots of drive space," reports Robert D. about Old Mill RV Resort.

Cell service limitations: Mobile coverage can be limited in coastal areas. "Our ATT service only has one bar at our site," mentions one camper. Another noted, "ATT reception is very limited. WiFi that works great early in the day but slows to a crawl at night."

Tips for camping with families

Indoor recreation options: Several RV parks near Tolovana Park include indoor facilities. "This resort is very nice. The power was rock solid. There is free WiFi that works great early in the day but slows to a crawl at night," reports a visitor. Another camper at Astoria-Warrenton-Seaside KOA mentions, "This is a great KOA...probably the best I've been to. It's very big with a lot of activity options including an indoor pool, playground and trails."

Child-friendly transportation options: Pedestrian infrastructure makes beach access safer with children. "A sidewalk underpass under 101 and a path through a small city park makes it a family-friendly, dog-friendly walk to the outstanding beach sunsets," explains a visitor. Another adds, "Happily, there is an underpass to get to town without having to cross the 101."

Beware of traffic within campgrounds: Some RV parks have safety concerns with vehicles. "You have to be careful with your kids. People don't drive the speed limit. It's 5mph. They drive like they are in the raceway," warns Tracy at Thousand Trails.

Tips from RVers

Electrical service details: Different rv campgrounds near Tolovana Park, Oregon provide varying electrical service. "The campground is split up into two sides. The north side and the south side...The north side is also the only side that has 50A power. The south side is all 30A," explains a camper about Thousand Trails Seaside.

Weather considerations: Coastal camping requires preparation for temperature variations. "We come down here to get away from the heat, inland, area. It's usually 20-30 degrees cooler, than inland. So when the heat hits the valley, everyone runs to the coastline," shares Tracy.

Site selection strategies: For optimal camping experience, select RV sites carefully. "Good angles for backing in. However, inner loops you have a neighbor front, back and sides. You can hear too much because they are fairly close. This place stays fairly full so reserve in advance to get an outer spot," advises Misty Z.
