Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Accommodations range from basic one-room structures to multi-room layouts with separate sleeping areas. Sites had lots of trees and grass, power and water were great."

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic kitchenette facilities vary widely between properties, with some offering only outdoor cooking options while others provide microwave, mini-refrigerator, and coffee makers. Cannon Beach RV Resort includes a convenience store for basic provisions, while the KOA in Astoria-Warrenton features an on-site market. Visitors staying at state park cabins should plan to bring cooking equipment, food supplies, and weather-appropriate gear, as cabinet storage and counter space is typically limited.

    Cape Lookout State Park Campground

    Wonderful!

We stayed in a cabin here. The cabin was great, perfect size for relaxing for a few days. The kitchen/fridge/front porch grill were great. Full bathroom. We used an air mattress on the bed over the pad that was provided.

The trees/forest were beautiful, and so was the ocean, which is a short walk away. You can sit on the front porch and watch the sunset through the trees while listening to crashing waves. That's hard to beat! We also hiked to Cape Lookout (a little over 9 miles out and back from the cabin). Great vacation!

    Sea Ranch Resort

    Close campground to Cannon Beach

Great campground about a mile from Cannon Beach. There are cabins, RV sites, and tent spaces. It's a little higher in price then a national forest campground, I paid around $40 a night, but was there for the Cannon Beach Sandcastle Competition, which I highly recommend going to. There were several tent sites with some in the shady tree area and others in the sun. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot. At the bath house there was an outdoor sink area, where you could do your dishes. There are even horse stables on the grounds that you can pay to ride on the beach. It is a great campground in the city of Cannon Beach. I would recommend this park to anyone wanting to camp near the beach.

    Sea Ranch Resort

    Small gem, great location

I am not normally super spontaneous but on Friday afternoon I looked at the weather in Cannon Beach and decided yep, we’re going camping. I have both of my kids this weekend so it was a great opportunity for a family trip. As much as I wanted to throw my hammock and a couple tents in the jeep and head out on an adventure, I needed to accommodate the vast requirements of 2 teenagers. One who does not particularly like camping, especially if it’s in a tent so I wanted to find a cabin. With such a late booking I knew not to get my hopes up.

I headed over to The Dyrt and started my search. Looking up "Cannon Beach" with the cabin filter on I was able to see a few campgrounds there, I saved them to my list and started making calls to find an opening. I lucked into“Sea Ranch” and although I must have driven by this location dozens of times, It is kind of in a hidden spot right when you get into Cannon Beach’s north end. The manager who answered the phone was straight to the point but friendly. I booked 2 nights. She let me know check-in was at 7pm but if we were running late to just call and we’d be fine. She also went over a covid symptoms check and let me know the park rules. I rushed to pack all of our stuff and get on the road to make it in time to check in!

After a mildly congested drive out to Cannon Beach, we pulled off the 101 into town. Sure enough, we were late. I called and it was no issue. The map only showed the address so we had a couple turnarounds to find the entrance. It’s tucked away behind a park and a bridge and easy to miss off the road. We pulled up to the building and got our key as well as a portable heater which was a surprise(with such a warm weekend we didn’t end up using it). The campground is fairly small and the sites follow suit setting close together and not overly private. I am not sure this would be my first choice for tent camping. Although some of the sites towards the back of the campground are a bit more spacious and wooded and have nice trees for hammocks, if that’s your thing. I was relieved to see the cabin we were staying in was off the beaten path. Parking was a breeze and we parked right next to our weekend shelter.

The cabin was small, cozy, and clean. The kitchen area had plenty of cabinets to store stuff and decent counter space. A microwave and small refrigerator were also helpful. The small bathroom housed a mid size shower(with enough hot water for 1 shower) and full size toilet. The beds were pretty comfortable and the futon was in good enough shape. A large patio and fire pit outside gave us plenty of room outside. Lot’s of trees around gave nice shade and lot’s of small animals were around, chipmunks, bunny rabbits and various birds.

The campground also looks like it has some nice features that weren’t available due to COVID. A large general store, a horse ranch, ice and firewood. Still open was a building that housed bathrooms and showers, RV features including a sanitary dump and water. It also looked like there was a big sink area to clean dishes and whatnot. A large dumpster was also near this building for dumping trash. All in all this is a gem located a couple blocks from the beach and downtown Cannon Beach.

I would 100% stay here again and have added it to my saved campsites list.

    Cannon Beach RV Resort

Close to the beach and well maintained

We loved this campground so much that we extended our stay and were there for 10 days. Really well maintained and just 10 minutes away from the beach in Cannon Beach, it is a lovely walk from the campground to town and to the beach. The staff is very friendly, the campground clean and sites with full hook ups. There are trees everywhere and it provides shade for portion of the day to the campsites. They have great WiFi. I needed because I am on the road, working remotely. I have a lot of teams and zoom Video calls and the connection was great! There is a great hike at Ecola park which is accessible by the road where the campground is located. The laundry is open and only one person is allowed at a time due to Covid-19 and they have to sanitize it after each person uses the facility. Really great to see them following CDC guidelines and keeping the facility sanitizes. The bathrooms, pool and spa were closed due to Covid-19 and you had to be self contained to be able to be there. We had a great time and we will stay there when we go back to Cannon Beach, which has a special place in our hearts. For those who do not know Cannon Beach, that’s where the haystack from goonies is located. The house from Goonies is in Astoria, which is about 35-40 min from Cannon Beach. Great scenic drive when you go south of cannon beach. Oswald State Park is a great hike and you can finish with a walk on the beach. Manzanita is a beach town cute town close by. Keep driving south and go get some fish and chips at Riverside Fish & Chips in Nehalem, cute little town-the food truck is behind a building, by a lake. Keep going south...and you can go crabbing. It was our first time and it was super fun. Got dogs??? Oregon is very dog friendly, which we love because we have two dogs - which we consider our kids! Lots do do in the area! Worth the stay!

Cape Kiwanda RV Resort and Marketplace

    Cute cabin!

We headed to the Pacific City in search of fresh air in mid September when much of Oregon was consumed by wildfire smoke. The friendly staff at Cape Kiwanda RV Resort were very welcoming and we opted to stay in one of their cute cabins as rain was forecasted. Cabin N was comfortable and had electric heat, a TV, dorm fridge, microwave, porch swing, outdoor water, BBQ grill, picnic table and outdoor firepit.  The campground had cute wild bunnies hoping around, and amenities such as a playground, full market, and pool.  It's located a quick walk from a beautiful sandy beach, brew pub, coffee shop and other convenient options are nearby.

Guide to Cannon Beach

Camping cabins near Cannon Beach offer protected shelter from coastal weather patterns that bring an average of 90 inches of annual rainfall to this section of the Oregon coast. Situated between Highway 101 and the Pacific shoreline, most cabin accommodations sit at elevations below 100 feet, making them ideal base camps for exploring the region's diverse ecosystems. Winter temperatures typically range from 40-55°F while summer averages 55-70°F with occasional fog patterns.

What to do

Tidepooling at low tide: Visit Cape Lookout State Park during morning low tides to explore abundant marine life. "Do the Cape Lookout peninsula hike! Gorgeous views without great effort. Lots of tree roots that will tire your feet but not a strenuous hike overall: ~5 miles roundtrip," notes Kayla S. about the Cape Lookout State Park Campground.

Horseback riding on the beach: Several rental stables operate near Nehalem Bay State Park, offering guided rides. "Great dune area. Always horses riding on the beach too. Super neat experience," says Jamie B. from a visit to Nehalem Bay State Park Campground.

Historical exploration: Fort Stevens State Park features military installations dating from the Civil War through World War II. "This is a great campground with a lot of sites. Visiting the Iredale shipwreck especially at sunset is beautiful. Also visiting the forts and cannons are fun. Bring mosquito repellent!" advises Gail S.

Crabbing excursions: Rent equipment from coastal marinas during summer months. "Great location - Go crabbing at Kelly's and then horseback riding on the beach!" suggests Jean M. after staying at Nehalem Bay State Park.

What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Cannon Beach RV Resort places visitors within walking distance of town amenities. "Walk to Haystack Rock," notes Mari H., adding that it's "an easy (really!) 10 minute walk to the beach, just north of Haystack Rock. A sidewalk underpass under 101 and a path through a small city park makes it a family-friendly, dog-friendly walk to the outstanding beach sunsets" at Cannon Beach RV Resort.

Remodeled facilities: State parks regularly upgrade their amenities. "Campground just opened back up after redoing it - the bathrooms are very nice and the rv pads and electric is redone," reports Diana L. about Nehalem Bay.

Seclusion options: Some campgrounds offer more private sites. According to Nathan R., "We love how much privacy is usually found between sites. For the most part, trees and bushes are substantial enough to make your site feel like you have your own sanctuary" at Cape Lookout State Park.

Beach access: Multiple campgrounds provide direct paths to the shore. "We loved it there! It was such a short walk to the beach and you could hear the waves when you're going to sleep!" shares Trina C. from Cape Lookout.

What you should know

Seasonal booking patterns: Summer reservations fill quickly at popular campgrounds. "This resort is very nice. The power was rock solid. There is free WiFi that works great early in the day but slows to a crawl at night. ATT reception is very limited," warns Misty Z. about Sea Ranch Resort.

Weather preparedness: Coastal cabins provide shelter but visitors should prepare for rapid changes. "We visited during COVID so a lot of stuff was limited to reservation or closed. It was still nice. Great proximity to town," reports C M. about Cannon Beach RV Resort.

Elk encounters: Wildlife regularly visits some campgrounds. "The Elk greeted us and were eating all the flowers as we entered," shares Brandon K. about Cannon Beach RV Resort.

Limited cell service: Many coastal campgrounds have poor connectivity. "I got zero reception in the campground. I use Verizon," notes Christina F. about Cape Disappointment State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Some facilities offer better recreational infrastructure. "The campground is split up into two sides. The north side and the south side. The north side has the getaway cabins, and cottages. It also has the pool/hot tub, cafe, group fire pit, kids play ground, and overflow parking. Pickleball/tennis courts," explains Tracy at Thousand Trails Seaside.

Educational opportunities: Marine science centers provide indoor activities during inclement weather. "There is a two mile bike/walking path through the woods and along the bay. The beach is only a five minute walk away," notes smittie about Nehalem Bay State Park.

Sand dune exploration: Several campgrounds feature natural play areas. "I spent many a year at this campground, letting the kids (who am I kidding, me) run up and down the big sand dune and play on the tree at the top! BBQs, fires, music, ice cream down the street and fishing off the jetty," says Richelle H. about Barview Jetty County Campground.

Indoor facilities: When weather turns, having indoor options helps. "This is a great KOA...probably the best I've been to. It's very big with a lot of activity options including an indoor pool, playground and trails," shares Alicia F. about KOA facilities.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose sites based on your specific needs. "Inner loops you have a neighbor front, back and sides. You can hear too much because they are fairly close. This place stays fairly full so reserve in advance to get an outer spot," advises Misty Z. about Cannon Beach RV Resort.

Dump station logistics: Not all campgrounds offer full hookups. "No sewer hook up, so you had to use a dump station. Not a huge inconvenience," notes C M. about Nehalem Bay State Park.

Winter accessibility: Some campgrounds remain open year-round with reduced services. "We've lived in Oregon forever but never visited this park. RV spots are nice and level but not much privacy between spaces. Very nice setup with yurts right across the drive from RVs in loop A," explains smittie from Nehalem Bay.

Utility reliability: Power fluctuations can occur during coastal storms. "This campground is right on Barview Jetty near Rockaway and Garibaldi. There is a large climbable dune just inside the park that is great for exploring and seems to be popular with kids," says Kelly P. about the Astoria-Warrenton-Seaside KOA.
