"Nice, small, spacious campground," notes one visitor about Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, which offers RV sites with 50-amp electric service and water hookups. RV campers can find top spots near Newton, New Jersey year-round or seasonally. Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort in Sussex provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp service from April through October, accommodating big rigs with spacious pull-through options. Mountain Top RV Park features newly upgraded infrastructure including 50-amp wiring and updated sewer systems, making it suitable for larger motorhomes. Tri-State RV Park in nearby Matamoras, PA offers electric, water, and sewer hookups with sites designed for easy access.

Fall foliage season fills many parks fast, particularly at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation where the wooded sites provide shade but limit satellite coverage. Cell service varies significantly across the region—AT&T users report spotty connections at several parks, with one reviewer noting "AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time." Most RV parks in the area provide dump stations, though Timothy Lake South and Pleasant Acres offer full sewer hookups at individual sites. Navigation into mountain parks may require careful planning, as one camper cautioned about "very narrow roads with sizable boulders on both sides" at some locations. Pet-friendly options are plentiful, with designated areas at several parks including Woodland Trails RV and Campground.

      Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

      Colonial Woods Family Resort

      Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Great But...

Its a great campGround But There are some cons. Don't come if your in a tent And It Has Been ior will rain, It Becomes Flooded or turns into A mudPit. All The Private or Good spots are usually taken By seasonals But the other spots are decent if you Have A Big rig it can Be A little squish.

Pros Great People beautiful surroundings Nice Bathrooms Quiet and Peaceful Accessible Nice Pool Every store U could Need is in about 15 mins Away Not Alot of Stupid rules just Be respectful Pet friendly

I Been coming Here for years Never Had A Bad Time.

      Mountain Vista Campground

      Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

      Tobyhanna State Park Campground

      Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

      Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

      Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

      Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

      Panther Lake Camping Resort

      Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Guide to Newton

RV camping spots near Newton, New Jersey provide access to the Skylands region with elevations reaching 1,500 feet. Winter temperatures drop below freezing from December through February, requiring heated water lines at some campgrounds. Camping areas range from basic parking lot-style settings to wooded retreats on private farms.

    What to do

Explore Delaware River access: Tri-State RV Park in Matamoras is located right on the Delaware River. "They are also located right on a river that you can easily access by foot," notes Brittany V. The park serves as a convenient base for fishing or riverside activities.

Visit nearby grocery options: Black Bear RV Park provides convenient access to shopping. "Groceries and Home Depot close buy if you need to restock," reports Dave B. This accessibility is particularly valuable for extended stays or emergency supply runs.

Attend on-site entertainment: Tri-State RV Park offers unexpected entertainment options. "They have an onsite buffet with live entertainment if your timing is right," mentions Brittany V., making it more than just a place to park overnight.

Feed farm animals: Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort incorporates a working farm into the camping experience. "The farm has goats, a donkey, and a pony within the campground. Very cool," shares Faith D. This unique feature provides an interactive experience beyond standard campground activities.

    What campers like

Privacy options in wooded areas: Timothy Lake South provides secluded camping opportunities. "Sites are kinda close together but it was fairly quiet even though it was full," says Mary H., indicating that despite site proximity, the wooded setting maintains a sense of privacy.

Seasonal fall colors: Black Bear RV Park offers wildlife viewing opportunities in evening hours. "The best part was at dusk when the animals came out!" notes Wyndie G., highlighting the natural experience available even at a more developed campground.

Variety of accommodation types: Mountain Top RV Park features diverse camping options. "The video posted shows the full hook-up area. The water and electric sites and tent sites were tucked away in a more wooded environment," explains Jason G., describing how different camping styles are accommodated in appropriate settings.

Clean facilities: Woodland Trails maintains high standards for bathroom facilities. "The bathrooms and garbages were cleaned daily. Showers and toilets were spotless the entire time we were there," reports Josh, addressing a practical concern for many campers.

    What you should know

Highway noise considerations: Several parks near major roads experience traffic noise. "Located just off the highway so lots of vehicle noise 24/7," writes Michael H. about Tri-State RV Park. Similarly, Rick G. notes it's "basically in a old parking lot right below the freeway. Very easy to get on & off the highway but loud highway noise almost all night."

Limited winter services: When camping off-season, expect reduced amenities. "All the buildings are closed due to Covid, so no laundry & no bathroom," explains a reviewer at Black Bear RV Park. Even when buildings are open, winter camping presents unique challenges.

Site selection strategies: Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South operates on a first-come, first-served basis. "This is a first-come, first-serve park in the Thousand Trails system so we had to drive around looking for a spot," explains Jim G., highlighting the importance of early arrival to secure preferred sites.

Varying cell service quality: Mobile connectivity fluctuates throughout the region. "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," reports Nick E. at Timothy Lake South.

    Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Skyway Camping Resort provides swimming options during hot summer months. "Nice pool, this is a good family campground for kids. It large with nice size sites," says Ron H., suggesting this as a good option for families seeking water recreation.

Playground access: Mountain Top RV Park offers multiple recreational facilities. "There's also a nice lounge room with games, a pool table, a TV and puzzles/board games," shares one camper, indicating indoor options for entertainment during inclement weather.

Scheduled activities: Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort organizes programming for younger campers. "There were some organized activities which was nice, not as much as a Jellystone Park," explains Janelle G., comparing the activity level to a popular family-oriented camping chain.

Waste disposal challenges: Consider garbage logistics when camping with families. "The garbage situation was the worst. Most campsites have a service, they tell you to leave it at a specific location by a certain time or they have many garbage cans throughout. This place had their garbage and recycling very far away," notes Janelle G. about Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort.

    Tips from RVers

Winter water precautions: When RV camping during colder months, check water availability. "Unfortunately at this site, the heated water pipe was broken so we had no water for the night," reports Gabbie Y. at Black Bear RV Park, underscoring the importance of having backup water supplies during winter stays.

Campground infrastructure quality: Mountain Top RV Park features updated utilities. "The investment in new 50amp wiring, upgraded sewer systems, and newer water lines provided convenient camping experience," notes Jason G., highlighting the importance of reliable hookups for RV campers.

Site leveling considerations: Timothy Lake South provides well-maintained sites. "The site was level with good power and water," shares Jim G., noting an important factor for RV setup and stabilization.

Big rig accessibility: Liberty Harbor RV Park accommodates larger vehicles despite its urban location. "Easy access with our 32 foot RV pulling our Jeep," states Kevin A., addressing a common concern for drivers of larger recreational vehicles.
