    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Several RV parks surround Taylors Falls, Minnesota, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Wildwood RV Park & Campground in nearby Shafer features 135 sites open from May through October, with full hookups including 30/50 amp electrical service. Camp Waub-O-Jeeg, located directly in Taylors Falls, provides electric hookups, water access, and a sanitary dump station for RVs. Just across the Wisconsin border, Northern Detour RV Site on Poplar Lake accommodates up to 15 RVs with electric hookups and propane fill service. The sites at these parks vary in size and layout, with Wildwood specifically designed to be big-rig friendly with spacious, level sites. "For RVs, this is the dream campground. There's wide gravel and mostly level sites, with plenty of space for slide outs. Big sites, yet private!" noted one visitor about the region's RV accommodations.

Most RV campgrounds in the Taylors Falls area operate seasonally from spring through fall, with limited year-round options. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly during summer weekends and fall color season when parks fill quickly. Cell service varies throughout the region, with better connectivity at parks closer to town. Dump stations are available at most parks, though not all sites offer sewer hookups at individual campsites. Pet policies are generally accommodating, with designated pet areas at several parks. Some campgrounds like Country Camping RV Park in Isanti (open May through October) provide additional amenities such as on-site markets and firewood sales. Back-in sites predominate in the area, with few pull-through options, so RV drivers should be prepared for potentially tight maneuvering at certain parks.

      Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

Ann Lake Campground — Sand Dunes State Forest

      Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

      Grand Casino RV Resort

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

      Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

      Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

      Pathfinder Village-St Croix

      Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

      Interstate State Park Campground

Great spot on the river, lots of activity options

Vibe: Busy state park on the weekends, but the campground was calmer. Lots of families and young couples. Not very friendly. Someone stole our firewood while we were away from our site.

      Cleanliness: Average.

      Facilities: Average.

General spots: Good size, good spacing, some privacy. Good trees and shade.

Our site: 32. Easy walk to bathrooms. Good shade. Nice fire pits.

Noise: Highway noise late into the night and starting about 5 in the morning. Camp itself was quiet after sundown.

      Cell signal: Good (Verizon)

Other: Taylors Falls and Saint Croix Falls are both cute towns and close. Saint Croix has plenty of options for food and supplies. Canoeing and riverboat options available. Check out the glacier potholes.

    Guide to Taylors Falls

RV sites near Taylors Falls, Minnesota offer seasonal accommodations from spring through fall, with most facilities closing by October. The region sits at the intersection of the St. Croix River Valley and Chisago Lakes area, with elevations ranging from 700 to 1,000 feet above sea level. Weather patterns fluctuate dramatically throughout the camping season, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F during the day and cooling to 50-60°F at night.

    What to do

River activities: Float the Rum River: Country Camping RV Park visitors can enjoy tubing down the Rum River directly from the campground. "Love this place. Close to the Twin Cities, right on the Rum River. Great tent sites right on the river. Tubing! They have a bus that takes you into town float back to the campground, love it," notes Tom D.

Sculpture gardens: Visit Franconia: Located just a short drive from Wildwood RV Park & Campground, this unique outdoor art space offers a memorable day trip. "Be sure to check out Franconia sculpture garden if you're staying here and have the time! It's such a fun and quirky place," recommends Tori K.

Paddling excursions: Canoe or kayak: The St. Croix River offers excellent paddling opportunities for all skill levels. "The kayaking/canoeing was an amazing adventure that everyone should try. It was even great for kids 3 and 6," shares dominick C. from Wildwood RV Park & Campground.

City exploration: Walk to downtown Amery: From North Park RV Campground, campers can easily access local shops and restaurants. "Easy walk to downtown," notes Dave T., who appreciates the campground's convenient location.

    What campers like

Wooded campsites: Camp Waub-O-Jeeg offers tree-covered sites that create a natural atmosphere. "The camp is rustic, in a good way. Lots of trees, nice sites with water and electric and a dump station (that's not stinky!) Bathrooms have been renovated recently too," reports Susan M.

Spacious layouts: Many campers appreciate the generous spacing between sites at certain campgrounds. "Country Camping RV Park has wide sites. The spaces were well kept and spaced apart," writes Beasty B.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and shower houses rank high on campers' priority lists. "Bathroom and shower house were great," notes Stuart S. about Camp Waub-O-Jeeg.

Local recreation options: Multiple recreation facilities attract active campers. "In city park. Tennis. Frisbee golf. Skateboard park. BB hoops. Toilets. Showers. Boat launch. Swimming," Dave T. lists as benefits of North Park RV Campground.

    What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks in the area close in October. "Country Camping RV Park is open May 1 - Oct 1," according to their listing information.

Terrain challenges: Some campgrounds feature steep terrain that can be difficult to navigate. "A little steep getting up to some of the sites," mentions Stuart S. about Camp Waub-O-Jeeg.

Noise levels vary: Campgrounds differ in their enforcement of quiet hours. "Quiet hours start at 10, but that rule wasn't enforced until we called much later. One group had been extremely loud since 9pm," reports Krista T. about her experience at Camp Waub-O-Jeeg.

Internet connectivity: Grand Casino RV Resort and other campgrounds may have unreliable internet access. "Internet was out more than on. It was at least quiet for our overnight, but probably better for those interested in the casino scene than traveling families where someone works over the internet," notes Cathleen V.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground options: Look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas. "Great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most definitely go again! A ton for the kids to do!" enthuses Beasty B. about Country Camping Tent & RV Park.

Water features: Swimming pools and splash pads provide welcome relief during hot summer days. "The campground is nice and clean. Good size spaces. The tubing is a plus. Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Pool was small but nice. Splash pad was even nice for adults," shares David G.

Rental opportunities: Some campgrounds offer equipment rentals to enhance your stay. "We've stayed at Country Camping for years! Great variety of things to do for everyone. Group sites, tent sites, covered wagon sites! Floating on the Rum River, swimming pool with splash pad, little camp store, Golf cart rentals! Our grandkids love it too!" remarks Carol H.

Kid-friendly river experiences: The Rum River provides a safe environment for water activities. "Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom," notes David G., highlighting an important safety feature for families with children.

    Tips from RVers

Parking challenges: RVers should be prepared for difficult back-in sites at some campgrounds. "Site was almost 90 degrees to road, hard to park. Back-in site was 90 degrees to the road - if the bathhouse parking lot wasn't across from it, wouldn't have been able to swing in on a 24' travel trailer," cautions Cathleen V. about Grand Casino RV Resort.

Electrical management: During hot weather, electrical systems can become strained. "Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max," notes David G. about electrical capacity.

Site selection: Choosing the right site can make a significant difference in your experience. "The sites at these parks vary in size and layout, with larger sites available for those who need more space. "The Robin site was spacious, flat, great sandy soil for driving in tent stakes, has privacy from your closest neighbors, and it is off in its own corner so there wasn't a lot of car or foot traffic that went back there," recommends Krista T. about a specific site at Camp Waub-O-Jeeg.
