Best RV Parks & Resorts near Richmond, MI

Several RV parks surround Richmond, Michigan, offering diverse options for motorhome travelers. Port Huron KOA, open from April 25 to October 26, provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including 50-amp service. Just 15 miles north, Thousand Trails St. Clair operates seasonally from April 30 to October 19 with water hookups and spacious sites. Dancing Fire Glamping and RV Resort features 140 sites with complete utility connections including 30/50-amp electrical service, sewer, and water hookups. Haas Lake Park RV Campground accommodates larger rigs with level gravel pads and 50-amp electrical service, though it lacks sewer hookups at individual sites. "Sites are long but not wide. Level. Full hookups. Wifi you can stream on. LTE cell service," noted one RV camper about Water Tower Travel Trailer Park, highlighting the practical setup many parks in the region offer.

Seasonal availability varies across rv campgrounds in the area, with most operating from spring through fall. Port Huron Township RV Park maintains sanitary dump stations and offers both 30 and 50-amp electrical connections for varying RV power needs. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region's rv parks, with one reviewer mentioning "Verizon and ok TMobile service" at nearby recreation areas. Pet-friendly policies are standard at most locations, though specific restrictions may apply. For RVers requiring dump services, several parks provide on-site sanitary stations, while others like McGinnis Lake Modern Campground have experienced temporary closures of their dump facilities. One traveler cautioned: "NOTE: Holly's dump station is still closed. There is a 'mini dump' station for portable tanks behind the bathhouse. You can dump at KOA for $35 or at other state parks for free." Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer weekends and holiday periods when occupancy rates peak.

McGinnis Lake Modern Campground — Holly Recreation Area

The State of Michigan has dropped the ball…

No sewer or dumps is available at this campground (April 2022). You will have to dump elsewhere. If there was a memo I missed it. Made reservation in winter 2021. Had great Verizon and ok TMobile service. Site itself was easy to level and adequate for our big rig. It was one of 4 50 amp sites in the park. Nice large grassy site and the park was not very full.

    Groveland Oaks County Park

    Kid friendly

This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds. Full hookup area is away from most of the weekend traffic with a short cut to get to where all the kids stuff is located. I think it is a little pricier than most monthly rentals in southeast Michigan. We chose for the convenient location for spending the weekends. Our campsite was a little difficult to get into because it was on a curve and there was a seasonal camper with a Class A right across from our site which didn’t allow for a lot of space to maneuver our 26 ft travel trailer. It was, however, fairly close to the park and restrooms.

    Covenant Hills Camp

    Family Friendly and Quiet

Large sites, all full hookup. Plenty of onsight activities on the weekend. Large play areas, dog run, basketball court, lots of walking trails, and family friendly.

    Forester Park Campground

Friendly, but tight and odd utilities

First, some seasonal residents were extremely helpful with our campfire woes. All of the neighbors and their kids were awesome.

We chose this campground because it was close to our home and it was a short trip for our opening weekend.

The store, staff, and ice cream shop were great. We even bought t-shirts to commemorate!

The price was reasonable for 2 nights on memorial day weekend with full hookups and 30 amps ($40 a night). Water was clean a d strong. No issues with electricity.

Some issues we had that we were not expecting: The sewer and water spigot were on opposite ends of our site. I had to race to Raymond's hardware(also friendly!) in town for a 50 foot fresh water hose before they closed.

We also don't not have a slide out, but our trailer was brushed against a tall tree/bush. If we weren't against the tree, our awning may have been against the opposite neighbors' trailer.

The sewer access was slightly uphill from our site, so that caused some issues as well.

In conclusion: We'd definitely return, but we'd be careful about the site location.

Bathrooms were dated and we arrived Monday after Labor Day so I can't judge them. They had a FULL HOUSE on Labor Day per the front gate. I was very impressed there was no garbage at campsites and picked up very well.

    Seven Lakes State Park Campground

Great waypoint when camping across the UP

Vibe: Woodland getaway with no flash and really nice sites.

Cleanliness: Sites are above average. Vault toilets are…vault toilets.

Facilities: Nothing flashy. Wish there was a few additional water filling points and that the dumpsters were all located near the camp entrance/exit. But really nothing to complain about.

General spots: Large, very well treed, gravel, picnic table and fire ring.

Privacy: Can see neighbors through sites, but better privacy than most places.

Our site: 39. Could drive circles around inside it. Even has a tree in the middle of it with room to drive all the way around it(not with a trailer). Depending where you set up your rig, you may need an extra long extension cord.

Noise: Quiet. Occasionally hear wolves howling. Cell signal(Verizon): 1 bar. No internet loads. Text messages will send and receive. Sometimes immediately, sometimes hours later. Other: Wish we had a chance to explore the lakes. Sounds like the swimming and fishing is good. Saw several kids on bikes toting rods.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

    Nice Michigan State Park

Camped here opening weekend of 2022 (April 29). Nice park with several sites for our bigger rig. Leveling would be more of the challenge. But, we eventually got to 145 which was pretty good and very doable from leveling Stand point. Large well kept grassy site. Nice fire ring. No water or sewer at site but fill and dump available in park. Our Verizon WiFi coverage was good as was our TMobile. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Seemed there to serve. We experienced no issues with our 30 amp (20 & 30 only available). Didn’t need air conditioning but electric heat was our main heat source and worked fine.

    The Holly Campground

    KOA

We normally have no issues with KOAs. It is preseason, and still early, so we understand there’s some bumps. But we had a difficult time finding a site that would work for our rig. Everything was soggy, roads washed out and our rig sank. Very few full hook up sites and none available for long term (month or more).

Guide to Richmond

Richmond's camping scene extends beyond the immediate city limits across southeast Michigan's rolling terrain. Located within Michigan's thumb region, Richmond sits in an area with over 10 developed campgrounds within a 40-mile radius. Summer temperatures typically range from 65°F to 85°F during peak camping season from May through September, with rainfall averaging 3 inches monthly.

What to do

Beach access at Lake Huron: Jellystone Park North Port Huron offers direct access to Lake Huron beaches. "There are several fun things for kids, a very nice kid friendly pool. Park is clean, store well stocked," notes Kelsey P., who appreciated the combination of lake and pool options.

Hiking trails: McGinnis Lake Modern Campground at Holly Recreation Area features multiple well-maintained trails. "Pretty park with several well marked trails. We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees," writes Jennifer H., highlighting the park's natural setting.

Paddling opportunities: P.L. Graham Park & Campground provides access to the Black River for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. As Valerie D. notes: "Compact Camp with open sites. Nice place to bring a kayak & canoe. Worn in dock area but still accessible."

Mini-golf and family recreation: Jellystone Park North Port Huron features extensive recreation options. "What's not to like if you have kids or grandkids. Great shallow pool, splash pad, water slides, mini-golf, trampoline area, sandy beachfront, close to Lake Huron, ice cream, pizza, stocked general store," explains Bret J.

What campers like

Natural settings with privacy: Holly Recreation Area receives praise for its wooded sites. "I stayed in the rustic Aspen loop and it was fine for early season but come peak season, the sites lack privacy and are kind of small. It's not a bad walk to modern restrooms and it was very quiet," mentions Ashleigh M.

Clean facilities: Port Huron Township RV Park maintains well-kept grounds according to campers. "The campground is very simple and still has all the basic features needed for your camping needs," says Craig W., highlighting its straightforward approach.

Family atmosphere: Port Huron KOA caters specifically to families with activities. "Lots of trees, cabins, tents and campers welcome. Many shower houses/bathrooms. Jumping pillow, tons of scheduled activities, equipment rentals, trails nearby," remarks Melissa B.

Water features: Haas Lake Park RV Campground offers multiple lake access points. "Haas Lake is quiet, clean and has friendly staff who are ready to help anytime," writes Christian C., while Karen C. adds, "This location has 4 lakes. There is plenty of nature. Lots of trees along a nature trail. Cranes and ducks in the water."

What you should know

Reservation timing: RV parks near Richmond fill quickly during summer weekends. "This place is beautiful and we'll absolutely be back! The entire facility was clean and staff couldn't have been friendlier. The only downside was the abysmal Verizon signal," notes David B. about Thousand Trails St. Clair.

Campsite selection: Haas Lake Park RV Campground offers various site types depending on privacy needs. "Overall, a very nice campground with a handful of lakes and a variety of sites. They offer very reasonable weekly and monthly rates. It seems as though most campers are seasonal residents making it difficult to get a decent spot for weekend campers," Josh B. observes.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds near Richmond can get lively on weekends. "Family camping at its finest. This KOA has so many things to do you could stay a week. It tends to get a little rowdy and is not a quiet campground by any means but there's something fun about that sometimes," Alex H. mentions.

Dump station access: Several parks have dump stations, but availability varies. Some locations charge for non-guests. Port Huron Township RV Park provides full hookups including sewer connections for most sites.

Tips for camping with families

Consider timing for activity access: Schedule visits to Richmond area campgrounds midweek when possible. "Campground is peaceful during week- due to cabins can be very rowdy and crowded on weekends. Owner is very strict but tons of staff always on site to help," advises Lindsey S. about Port Huron KOA.

Budget for extras: Dancing Fire Glamping and RV Resort offers amenities at additional cost. "Right off the highway. Clean. $69/night for a pad with power. We have a pop up tent and a utility trailer. Nice pool. Showers and sitewide wifi," notes Nathan H.

Check cabin options: Thousand Trails St. Clair provides cabin rentals for families without camping equipment. "We really enjoyed our cabin. The people were very nice. I like the putt putt course and the bouncing pillow," writes Trevor O., highlighting the alternative accommodations.

Anticipate pool conditions: Water features may have limitations based on weather and season. At Jellystone Park, one camper reported: "Pool heater was broken and they were not going to fix it, it was too cold to swim. The pool stayed empty."

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions vary: When booking rv parks in Richmond, Michigan area, confirm exact site measurements. "Large sites with lots of fun amenities, plenty to do which justifies the high cost, with that many sites I would assume they would have more bathrooms though," reports David B. about Jellystone Park.

Hookup availability: McGinnis Lake Modern Campground offers varied hookup options. "I love this place and so do my 3 dogs. We got a secluded campsite, and it's gorgeous- tucked into the woods and was easy to back into. There is no water hookup- but you can fill up and dump at the front of the campground," explains Ashley F.

Connectivity options: Cell service and WiFi quality varies across rv campgrounds near Richmond, Michigan. "This place is beautiful and we'll absolutely be back! The entire facility was clean and staff couldn't have been friendlier. The only downside was the abysmal Verizon signal. I'm talking 3 mbps bad," notes one reviewer about Thousand Trails St. Clair.

Seasonal operation: Most Richmond area RV parks operate from spring through fall, with closures during winter months. Check specific opening dates as they vary by location.
