Best Cabin Camping near Richmond, MI

Cabin rentals within state recreation areas and private campgrounds provide overnight lodging options in the Richmond area. Port Huron KOA and Lakeport State Park Campground offer cabin accommodations with varying levels of amenities. Basic cabins typically include beds, electricity, and heating options for cooler months. "We stayed in one of the 'deluxe' cabins which are 1 bedroom cabins with a full bathroom and a sleeping loft. The layout of the cabin is great and it includes a screened in porch," notes one visitor to Lake Huron Campground. More rustic options may have concrete floors and minimal furnishings, while deluxe cabins often feature bathrooms, kitchenettes, and separate sleeping areas.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Addison Oaks County Park and Bald Mountain Recreation Area maintain rustic cabins that sleep 10-15 people, popular with hunters and scout troops. According to a reviewer, "They are rustic, so they don't have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove." Most cabin sites require advance reservations, particularly during summer months from May through October when availability becomes limited. Pet policies vary by location, with some cabins designated as pet-friendly while others prohibit animals entirely. Pontiac Lake Recreation Area features three small cabins in its East campground area, which tends to be more open than the wooded West camping section.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary widely between properties - some offer only outdoor fire rings with grates, while others include microwaves, mini-refrigerators, or full kitchens in deluxe units. On-site camp stores at locations like Port Huron KOA and Groveland Oaks County Park stock firewood, ice, and basic provisions. Visitors should check specific cabin amenities before arrival, as one reviewer noted: "Wish I had seen a post regarding the mattresses before we went. I would have canceled... to find they would be sleeping on plywood." Cabins at Holly Recreation Area include fire rings and picnic tables, with modern bathrooms and shower facilities available in the campground.

Bathrooms were dated and we arrived Monday after Labor Day so I can't judge them. They had a FULL HOUSE on Labor Day per the front gate. I was very impressed there was no garbage at campsites and picked up very well.

GREAT biking trails you can catch on premise and bike over to Kensington and to the charming town of Milford

Pretty park with several well marked trails. We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees. I think site #1 was one of the roomiest and prettiest. The bathrooms were clean. There were several playgrounds, bench swings, play fields and even a basketball court. The ADA sites had pavement surrounding the fire rings and space at the picnic tables for a wheel chair.

    Jellystone Park North Port Huron

Lots to do for lots of money

We stayed in one of the "deluxe" cabins which are 1 bedroom cabins with a full bathroom and a sleeping loft. The layout of the cabin is great and it includes a screened in porch. The cabin was pretty grimy though. The floors hadn't been moped in weeks, the bathroom needed to be scrubbed not just wiped down, etc. We encountered lots of maintenance issues - burned out lightbulbs, malfunctioning toilets, TV remotes missing or not working, A/C units broken. These are things that I might expect at a "typical" campground, but at $265 per night for midweek, I expected better.

The campground amenities are numerous but we found the hours to be limited and a lot of the amenities were additional costs which we thought was excessive given the price we were paying for the cabin.

    Bald Mountain Recreation Area

Amazing place to hike but campground not included.

I absolutely adore Bald Mountain Recreation area! The trails are well maintained and well marked. There is also tons of clean, easy to access lakes within the park too. Perfect for kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing. Unfortunately there is not a camping area within the recreation area. There is however two rustic cabins that are available for rental year round. They are popular with hunters and scout troops. The cabins sleep about 10-15 people if remember correctly. They are rustic, so they don’t have electricity or heat but there is a large wood burning stove.

    Seven Lakes State Park Campground

    Fab beach

This is a fabulous campground! There are over 20 sites, about half of which are located lake side (not directly on the lake, but there are little paths that lead you there and you can somewhat see the water from these sites.) There is a boat launch on one end of campground and the amazing beach on the other. The water is clear and warm (perfect lake for swimming) and there is both sand and grassy areas on the fairly large beach. The beach also offers picnic tables and benches. The only negative aspect I can see about this campground is that the sites are right on top of each other, so if you have a loud group or a generator next to you, it is noisy. But most campgrounds have sites set real close together, so you will find this pretty much everywhere. Def camp here! About an hours drive from a Pictured Rocks National Park. There are no showers or running water. Camp hosts were very nice, helpful, & welcoming.

    Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

    Quick get away

Wonderful place for a quick get away. Park is clean. Beach is a 1.8 mile hike from the East loop in the campground but is well worth the walk. (Trail is not stroller/wagon friendly) If you are hoping to hook up to electrical, bring extension cords; some hook ups are exceptionally far away from the designated RV parking pad. Extensive mountain biking trails and the lake is open to boating, kayaking, and other water sports. Park offers lots of private sites! We stayed in site 118 and could not see neighboring sites! The site was very spacious and offered picnic table, fire ring, paved pad, and electrical hook up. (hook up in this specific site was considerably far away.)
