The Holly Campground in Holly, MI, Formerly KOA endorsed

I rarely write reviews good or bad on any business ever, but this one is a BEWARE situation and I feel that fellow campers/RVer’s need to be aware of the campground!!!!

It has been many years since we were last at this campground. I booked a sight online for a week, thankfully it was only a week! We arrived at the campground, setup our 5th wheel, attempted to set up the WiFi, only to find they have WiFi in the store but no WiFi was available for our site. I contacted the office, spoke with the owner, she said “I will send someone out there to check the “repeater” maybe something is wrong with it because we should have WiFi”, never sent anyone that we were aware of and never called me to confirm wether or not we had the WiFi working. I drove up to the store and this nice young man informed me that the further away from the store you will not get WiFi. I told him that I spoke with the owner yesterday and she said that she was sending someone out to check the repeater and we NEVER heard back from her. He proceeded to call the owner on his cell phone, of which I could hear her talking, he said bring your computer up to the store and login, then take it back to the campsite and you should be able to login”, so I went back to the campsite grabbed my ipad, then back to the store. I was able to login to the WiFi. Went back to our site, no WiFi. This is a problem for me, not having WiFi, not only for work purposes but also TV services. I called the store, same young man told me that you do not have WiFi, you will need to come up to the store for services. I said that was unexceptionable, we were told we would have WiFi, it is also advertised online and in your brochure. He said “I can’t help you, you do not have WiFi on your site”. I let it go until the next day.

The campground is NOT well kept. The grass/weeds was a foot long throughout the campground, it clearly had not been mowed in a few weeks. My husband took the dogs out on our site to go potty, he came back in only to find he had ticks on him and the dogs. Most likely because the grass hadn’t been mowed. After being lied to about the wifi and now the ticks, we decided that we would need to find another campground. We are 44’ long with an 8’ deck and being a Friday we knew we had some challenges ahead of us to find another campground, but we did, thank God!

I drove up to the office and informed them of our displeasure and that we are checking out. I said we will pay for the 2 nights we have stayed here but we would like to be refunded the balance of what we prepaid (almost $400.00 dollars), and a refund for $20.00, $10.00 for each gate key we were charged. The young man called the owner on his cell phone, she said she will not refund the money. I said to the young man that was unexceptable, and I want my money back. He said he can’t refund our money. I told him I will get my money back one way or another, and that I will warn everyone about the “real” situation of this campground, his response was “ok, have a good day”, and I left.

If you are interested in staying at this campground, I highly suggest you take a ride and go see it for yourself. They are very expensive, overpriced for the campground conditions and amenities , and services that are stated online and in the brochure are not accurate! If you want to save yourself the headache, disappointment and loss of your hard earned money, STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMPGROUND!!!

Poor

Had a family emergency and had to cancel my monthly reservation. After 2 days of my reservation starting, i had a family emergency and had to cancel. I paid$775 for the month. Expecting to only lose 20%, I was surprised they only refund me$275. After getting no where with Lacey on what should be a refund of$620. I can only email her for complaints too. THEY ARE NO LONGER ASSOCIATED WITH K.O.A. she stated. Disappointed and feel like I was taken advantage of!!!

Book ANYWHERE Else

We reserved buddy spots at the Auburn Hills/Holly KOA and the conditions of the campground were so terrible we checked out after 1 hour. The sites do not have any type of lane which causes the lots to be soggy and muddy. I had to put my F250 into 4L to keep it from getting stuck while parking the camper. The lot was so filled with tire tracks and mud that our dogs and children would not be able to walk outside. My friend who was 8-months pregnant almost fell multiple times. We tested the water prior to hooking it up to the camper and it came out brown. The final straw was when we lost power between our 2 campers for the 5th time in 1 hour.

The staff could not provide any resolutions to these issues. We did not receive the sites that we had booked: poor grounds, unsanitary water and electricity below the necessary 30 amps.

I’ve called the campground at least 10 times, emailed once and called KOA’s corporate number twice asking for a response and have never received a call back. We filed a dispute with Chase bank and the campground responded after 40 days stating that we did not meet the cancellation policy. How could we meet this policy when we wanted to stay there but could not due to the conditions of the site.

I hope this review will at least save some future travelers time and energy by booking ANYWHERE else.

KOA

We normally have no issues with KOAs. It is preseason, and still early, so we understand there’s some bumps. But we had a difficult time finding a site that would work for our rig. Everything was soggy, roads washed out and our rig sank. Very few full hook up sites and none available for long term (month or more).

Tight, not in a good way.

Not all sites have full hook ups. Most are missing sewer. Not all sites have 50 amp available. I got put into a very tight and very unlevel spot. Additionally the spots are close together and there's a lot of them. I personally wouldn't stay here again, however if your camper isn't 43ft long you may not have any issues.

Filthy, unorganized and unkempt

Rotten picnic tables IF your site even had one. Campers had no fire pits and/or picnic tables. Dirty masks and gloves laying around.  Very unlevel site. Old dirty campgrounds.  Horribly loud from I75. Run by kids. Disgusting I would rather have given my money elsewhere. And charging $7.50 for a bundle of thin wood was a total rip-off.  Management not on site because all of my legitimate complaints were all unanswered. Never again will I go there or recommend them.

Hoping to be better next year

Covid precautions in place... hoping to stay in a cabin but never available... kids would enjoy as long as everything is open as this hoping to be better next year... plenty local enough to try again on a whim but hate to spend the $$ to have most amenities still closed! If you have to cancel n close amenities to the point campers don’t feel they can enjoy even the ambiance of the weekend then the $$ price shouldn’t be no where near what it is... yes I realize KOA has a tendency to be more expensive BUT it’s the amenities you are paying for! So please understand when reviews come in the way they do that it should be taken into consideration....

Hope next year will be better

Tried getting into the campgrounds via cabin... none were available for any portion of the season. Never been to a KOA before and wanted to see if it would be worth our while to join / membership with them as we have begun to notice they have a lot of amenities listed for several of their locations and actually ended up staying at another one without realizing it until we pulled in as it seems they were just bought out by KOA possibly up by Mt Pleasant. Grounds were kept up ok, Covid precautions taken seriously but considering we weren’t able to stay in a cabin we didn’t enjoy our nights as well as we would of cared to. Next year/ season hoping we either have a nicer camper or can stay in a cabin as well as bring the kids now that we know what is available hopefully Covid will be a thing of the past so all amenities will be open as well. Phone has not had enough space and didn’t save any pics to share unfortunately

I'll not return

Very expensive, noisy, poor site conditions with both fire pit and table badly needing replacing as both are seriously rotted. Only has 2 shower stalls so be prepared for a long wait at peak times. You can not reserve a site, you're assigned one when you arrive so you'll have to hope you get one that will fit your needs.

Busy place. Lots to do for the kids.

Great for kids, a little annoying for a couple adults just trying to break in our camper..but the hookups worked fine. Dog area was like a barren wasteland but I still appreciated it. Clean bathrooms.

Halloween Cubscout Campout

Thank you for having an abundance of tent space that was nice and grassy with lots of shade trees the price tag for what we got was it’s only shortfall and it was loud at night being that close to I-75. But the Halloween event was awesome loved it all the boys had a blast. I’d be interested in checking out the little cabins they have there super cute.

Nice. Not Cheap

Its a fairly expensive campground with not enough free amenities compared to other KOAs. Nice facility, clean, nice staff - we went to buy dish soap and they ran out so they gave us some of their commercial dish soap- that’s good customer service. During renaissance festival it seems to be the place to be.

Great cabins, lots for the kids to do! Relaxing!

We went here during the Renaissance Festival and stayed 3 nights in one of the air conditioned cabins. Three kids, two adults and two dogs. Lots of amenities, friendly staff. Not a single problem, and the kids had so much fun.

Probably would not return

We went for our first time with our new trailer. The grounds were a little unkept. The shower and restrooms were very clean. I do not like the KOA policy of charging extra per person. Too many nasty tent areas.

This KOA is right off the freeway. Loud and noisy
