    Pinewood Lodge Campground

    Beautiful

Nice and quiet, here for a 3 night stay. 4 star because there are signs posted No dogs allowed on the road to the beach or other areas in the campground, limits walking. There is a dog park, though.

    Atlantic Oaks Campground

    Nice campground

Fairly large, mostly RV and travel trailer park, we felt right at home in our popup. Check in and out were simple. Sites are large although a little close together. Mostly sandy gravel sites with lots of shade available. There are a few really nice tent sites next to the playground, close to the store, showers, and restrooms.

Facilities were uncrowded and very clean. Camp store was nice with lots of supplies available. Wonderful playground for the kids, big and small. Great little dog park.

The location of this campsite is perfect! Short drive to many of the best beaches on the Cape. Lots to do in the immediate area for families, plenary of restaurant options.

    We will definitely return!

    Pinewood Lodge Campground

    Good Spot

Site was level, staff was awesome. They do have a dog park and plenty of things to do. Didn't like that you have to pay for hot water though.

    Boston/Cape Cod KOA

    Not our favorite KOA

The sites are pretty close and some are not level. It seems that many sites have more than one vehicle at them, making it more congested. The Highlands area is much quieter. Decent dog park & common play areas (horseshoes, ladder ball, cornhole, basketball). Lots for kids to do. We went to Plimoth Plantation about 20 min away but not much else in the area. Management & employees are friendly & helpful.

    Bay View Campground

    Huge campground chockful of amenities

    General: Over 450 sites (tent 20 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e; 30 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e/s; 50 amp w/e; 30, 50 or premium seasonal)

Site Quality: Generally good. Sites are gravel. We had originally reserved Site 98 but there was a large rock and tree roots making it challenging to position our van. We were able to move to Site 95 which was much better. Each site has a picnic table and rock firepit. Trees provide some amount of privacy between many sites.

Bath/Shower house: Spotlessly clean. The cleaning schedule indicates it is cleaned three times daily.

    Activities/Amenities:

*Some are seasonal and were closed when we were there in October. These include three pools, a food truck, coffee, and ice cream.

    * Others include a pristine laundry room (but you have to purchase a laundry card, so one load is a minimum of $10), shuffleboard, playground, tennis/pickleball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoe pit, soccer and baseball fields, firewood and propane fill, free cable and WiFi, dog park. I’ve probably forgotten a few but you get the idea…

We chose this campground because of its proximity to the Woods Hole ferry terminal. It is not our typical preferred campground but for one night in the off-season, it was very pleasant. It is billed as a family-friendly campground, and I imagine it would be very different during high season. We gladly forgo seasonal amenities for a quieter stay. The staff was very present and welcoming. Note that it is located on a busy highway and if you are approaching from the south, the turn into the campground is hair-raising! There is some road noise at some sites but not for most of them.

    Marthas Vineyard Family Campground

    Peaceful Stay on Martha’s Vineyard

Great stay at the only campground on Martha’s Vineyard! Immaculate tent sites as well as bath houses, very clean shower and toilet facilities. Camp store is well stocked, including fire wood, and staying here you are close to all of the quaint MV towns…..whether by car, bike rental, or the island bus line that goes by the camp entrance. The ferry to Nantucket is only a few minutes away too for a day excursion! Very personable staff…..be sure to make at least a few minutes each day to pet the campground dogs!!

    Nickerson State Park Campground

    So Much to Do!

Woodsy pet-friendly family camping with easy access to Cape Cod attractions. Our family of four plus one pet enjoyed biking, hiking, and pond swimming during our three night tent stay. Sites are grassy and tree-lined offering some privacy. Bathrooms were clean and showers were warm and spacious. We kept ourselves occupied within the park for most of our stay, but enjoyed venturing out to spend time enjoying the National Seashore, and outstanding sea food joints. Since camping means being close to nature be sure to bring bug spray and be prepared to deal with a bit of sand. In all, this state park made for a fun family outdoor adventure!

    Pinewood Lodge Campground

    Great campground

Great campground for any type of camping, convenient to all kinds of shopping and touristy things, amazing campground staff, nice pond for fishing or swimming, lots of activities and celebrations for every age group. Two dogs parks are a huge benefit for us as well. This is an exceptionally well maintained campground. We’ll be back and would recommend it to anyone

Guide to Dennis Port

Cape Cod offers numerous pet friendly camping options within minutes of Dennis Port, Massachusetts. The area sits at sea level along Nantucket Sound with mild summer temperatures averaging 75-80°F. Most campgrounds in this region operate seasonally from April through October, with sandy soil conditions throughout the camping areas requiring extra tent stakes during windy periods.

What to do

Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail: Multiple campgrounds provide direct access to the 22-mile paved rail trail. Sweetwater Forest in Brewster connects to the trail system where campers can "see lots of folks fishing" along the canal route. According to one Scusset Beach visitor, "The Cape Cod Canal Trail [is perfect] for biking and walking" with access directly from the campgrounds.

Visit freshwater ponds: Nickerson State Park offers "clean, freshwater swimming at the kettle ponds" which are "usually uncrowded and within less than a minute's walk from [the] campsite." One camper calls it "incredible" swimming compared to the busier ocean beaches.

Explore private beaches: Atlantic Oaks Campground serves as "a great home-base while touring Cape Cod" with "access to National Seashore, Provincetown, several great beaches and lighthouses." A camper notes they're "minutes away" from Cape Cod National Seashore beaches.

Beach camping experience: Sandy Neck Beach Park offers one of the few opportunities to actually camp on the beach. "This is one of the few places where you can sleep on the beach! The water is on the cold side but it's worth it. Beach camping is a very special thing," writes one visitor. The park has "5 dispersed sites located 3-4 miles from the trailhead with picnic tables and an outhouse."

What campers like

Secluded wooded sites: Sweetwater Forest features "pleasant, secluded sites" where "the tent area is in a woodsy hollow full of birds and interesting wildlife." One camper noted it was "the quietest campground during quiet hours that I've ever visited. Walking my dog late at night or early in the morning was absolutely silent."

Kettle ponds for swimming: Nickerson State Park Campground provides "great place to spend a summer vacation. This state park is an oasis in the middle of a busy tourist destination... Beautiful beaches are just down the road from the campground." Another camper added, "I've been coming to Nickerson St. Park with my family for several years now and find I'm happy just staying there instead of running all over the Cape."

Privacy between sites: Shady Knoll Campground offers "sites [that] are well maintained and have a bit of foliage separation." A visitor commented on the quality and privacy: "The sites were on the smaller side and closely packed but there was good foliage between sites to lend a little privacy."

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention facility cleanliness as a highlight. At Shady Knoll, "the restrooms and showers were very clean" with "private unisex showers [that] were very clean and had great water pressure/temperature."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Cape Cod campgrounds fill quickly during peak season. At Nickerson State Park, "This spot fills up quick so reservations well ahead of time are needed." Plan to book several months in advance for summer weekends.

Beach restrictions for pets: While many campgrounds allow pets, beach access may be limited. At Nickerson State Park Campground, "dogs aren't allowed on the swimming beaches, [but] you can bring them to different parts of the pond for swimming, and no one gives you trouble."

Sand management: Most campgrounds have sandy soil. Atlantic Oaks campers note "the sites were all sandy dirt which made everything dirty and dusty (gravel would be an appreciated improvement)."

Limited tent sites: Scusset Beach has "only 5 designated tent sites during the peak season, so if you want to tent camp here, you'd best make a reservation well in advance." Most Cape campgrounds prioritize RV camping with limited tent-only areas.

Tips for camping with families

Look for playground access: Shawme Crowell State Forest Campground features a recently renovated "awesome playground." One visitor notes, "If you have young kids, they'll love the new playground area."

Seek enclosed dog areas: Peters Pond RV Resort has "a great dog park, pool, large pond" making it ideal for families traveling with pets. The enclosed dog park allows for safe off-leash play while keeping pets contained.

Check for water activities: Peters Pond offers multiple water options where families "really enjoyed the beach raft, able to kayak and did some fishing." A visitor mentioned, "Pool was good, pond was great. It was not crowded that time of year, so it was very enjoyable."

Consider off-season visits: When school schedules permit, camping after Labor Day offers significant advantages. One Peters Pond camper shared, "School started late so we were able to book after the holiday in September. Weather was still warm... It was not crowded that time of year, so it was very enjoyable."

Tips from RVers

Site selection for privacy: At Sweetwater Forest, experienced RVers recommend "C loop sites our favorite, but really not a terrible site in the place, depending on what you camp in." They note "the only drawbacks are that there are limited full hookup big rig sites, and they book up in advance."

Consider pull-through access: Atlantic Oaks features "large, pull through spaces with easy access to the Cape Rail Trail." The campground offers "beautiful park setting with well-kept natural landscaping including lots of mature shade trees."

Check hookup locations: RVers at Atlantic Oaks appreciate thoughtful design elements, noting how "they installed mini picket fences to block the view of the sewer connections from the neighbors—this is a great idea I wish other campgrounds would do too."

Evaluate waste facilities: Scusset Beach State Reservation offers "paved parking pads and picnic tables" but some sites have limitations where "the area to the side of the parking pads sometimes slopes away, so it's less usable for chairs, etc." The reservation offers RV-friendly amenities with "Friendly staff, nice level pads, clean campground, nice hot showers, quiet and close proximity to lots of things."
