Those looking to learn about the state’s heritage while camping in Illinois may head farther south to Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park & Memorial. This 162-acre park is 12 miles southwest of Decatur near Harristown, IL, and features the land where Abraham Lincoln first resided in the state. If you visit be sure to check out the memorials commemorating this important president.


People who want to mountain bike in this Midwestern state will enjoy heading to Palos Park, a forest preserve known for its excellent biking, hiking and equestrian trails that cover over 50 miles of terrain. Welcome Katy Trail Bike Packers! You can use the basement shower to get the sweat and dirt off after biking along the Katy trail. Sleep in one of our many hammocks beside the river and Enjoy the sounds of birds, wind, and water.

Our farm is located along the Katy trail, just north of Saint Charles. It’s a 40 minute bike ride back into Saint Charles so I recommend eating in town before coming out to enjoy the peaceful nature.

Guests will have the basement shower to themselves. Safe place to store bikes while sleeping outside in the hammocks.

Basement shower is rustic (literally some of the plumbing is rusty) but the water is hot. :)

Horseshoe Lake State Park is located off Highway 111 in the southwestern part of Illinois in Madison County.  With easy access from the Metro East for visitors from throughout the region, the park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities on 2,960 acres.

Horseshoe Lake State Park accommodates 26 tent or trailer campsites. A sanitary dump station, pit toilets, and hydrants are conveniently located. The campground is open from May 1 - Sept 30. Campers can stay a maximum of 7 days in a 30-day period. We do not take reservations for camping. Although, group camping reservations are accepted through the ExploreMoreIL™ website.



Horseshoe Lake State Park Recreation Area

You can pitch your tent in the fields or at the edge of the woods, pick your own spot. The sites are all in the fields with the animals! Our property is very secluded, kind of on the corner of a very forested area. We have picnic tables and portable firepits at our four drive up sites. If you'd like to be more adventurous or you prefer more seclusion you can choose your own spot, you just need to hike in and tote your gear.

Hummingbird Hollow Farm Sanctuary, Corp. was founded in January of 2020. Yes, right before Covid changed the world. I've lived on this farm since 2006, when my husband and I bought it as our dream home after the kids were out of high school. He wanted woods so he could walk out the door and go hunting, and I wanted pasture to fulfill my girlhood dream of owning horses (and all other animals I could collect) and pursue my passion of gardening. It was perfect, but tragically he died of ALS two years after moving here. He did get to fulfill his dream. I am continuing to work on mine and want to share it with you. The property and animals are here for you to enjoy.
