Best Campgrounds in Delaware

With more than 150 miles of trails, great coastal and inland fishing, and 20 state parks and forests, there are plenty of choices for camping in Delaware. Whether you like the convenience of an RV or the simplicity of a tent, camping in Delaware has many of options for outdoorsy visitors.

The most popular campground is Delaware Seashore State Park, a beach park just a few minutes' drive from the summer hotspot of Dewey Beach. Tent campers and RVers alike love the closeness to the Atlantic beaches and the calm coastal bays – six miles of sand and sun just steps away from your chosen campsite, with plenty of full-hookup spots.

During the summer, Delaware Seashore has beach wheelchairs available first-come, first-serve, and mobility mats allow standard wheelchairs access at Towers Ocean and South Inlet locations. For family members or friends who want to have a beach experience but don’t like camping, the Cottages at Indian River Inlet are a great close-by relaxing destination.

Many also campers like to enjoy the restaurants, bars and nightlife in Dewey Beach, about a mile north of the park. Dewey Beach offers plenty of watersports, eateries, dancing and live music for a great change of pace from a day of sunning and swimming.

A few miles north along Delaware’s Route One is Cape Henlopen State Park, a dream spot for lovers of nature and history. Formerly a World War II fort – Delaware’s shoreline is dotted with old military fire control towers – Cape Henlopen offers access to both calm Delaware Bay waters and Atlantic surf, as well as miles of shady wooded trails for hiking and bicycling through coastal marshes. Camping in Delaware at Cape Henlopen means you’re tucked into sandy woodland sites with picnic tables, campfires and plenty of pine trees, with small cottages also available.

If you're looking to escape summer crowds but still enjoy the beach, campers can drive about 10 miles south to Fenwick Island State Park, featuring three miles of beaches on the barrier island. Known as the "Quiet Beach," the ocean and bayside park is sandwiched between Ocean City, Maryland, and the "Quiet Resorts" of Bethany Beach, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island.

If the beaches aren’t your speed, the state has plenty of inland parks and forests which offer a range of opportunities and fun for camping in Delaware - from Trap Pond’s primeval-looking water trails perfect for canoeing and kayaking to Lums Pond’s treetop daredevil ropes course and ziplines. Wherever your plans take you, The Dyrt is your guide to the best tips, tricks and insider advice for a great time camping in Delaware.

    Redden State Forest Campground

    Secluded and improving

    8/15/2025

Arrived after dark to find that I had the campground to myself. As noted in other reviews, turn right as you drive past the office/house and let yourself in through the closed (but unlocked) gate. Since the last review, it appears they've added 11 sites on a branch if you bear left after the gate. These sites (8-18) are level, packed gravel pads with benches, fire pit, grill, and picnic table. The restroom featured on the map is just a portalet, but there is plenty of overflow parking in that branch. Apparently you're not supposed to pull onto the gravel with your vehicle, just park parallel to the road alongside it.

Another note about the gravel - can't get stakes in. Plus, it's a pine forest and I didn't want to get sap on my tent so I didn't tent adjacent to the pad amidst the pine needles. I did drive around the right branch (sites 1-7) in the morning to find that they are dirt/grass sites and probably would be ideal for tenting/staking (and in case you haven't guessed, I don't have a freestanding tent). The area is densely forested with pines and is quite pleasant in that regard.

    Lums Pond State Park Campground

    A Gem Among State Campgrounds

We spent a long weekend with family at Lums Pond State Park Campground and so glad we did.

We paid $46 per night plus fees for a FHU 50 Amp Back-in site(#56).

This place is a gem, even among nice state parks.

    THINGS I LIKED:

    • Easy access from I-95

    • Beautiful park setting with fantastic site— spacious, level, good-working hookups, and paved

    • Friendly and helpful staff

    • Great state park with lots to do (kayaking, biking, and more)

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    • There’s nothing we didn’t like about this place

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

    • Absolutely, this is a nice place with plenty to do

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park At Delaware Beaches

    Great First Camping Trip

My family tent camped for 1 night here at site 190. Decent array of electrical hookup options. My kids had a blast in the water area with the pool and large slides. It was our first time camping and we had trouble sleeping due to groups around us having fun until 11, but overall it was a really great experience and we will be returning

    Quiet visit with nature

First time staying overnight at a campground in Delaware. The cabins are tiny on the inside but that porch really provides very useful space.
No paper towels, soap or kitchen utensils. Everything is clean. Sandy soil and plenty of flying bugs. What is just a short walk from campground.

    Cape Henlopen State Park Campground

    Very busy campground

This is a VERY busy campground. Rigs in and out daily and nearly always full. None of the sites are level. Sites are mostly small and close together. The closer you are to the camp store, the louder and busier it is. Lots of kids. If you want quiet stay to the ends of the rows. E and F are quieter too. Park has a nature center, beaches, bike trails, history if you are interested. Bath houses were fine. Near lots of shopping and restaurants.

    Bethany Beach Training Site

    Great place for military families

We've stayed here on multiple occasions. The trailers are great and equipped with everything you need. Ours had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Another time, we brought our own RV. Great water pressure and electric hookup. They have additional showers available in a separate building. Very clean with hot water. There's a small playground and a walking/running track. There's a pond you can use a canoe. They rent them in the office. The laundry facilities are amazing! I love to go here and return home without tons of stuff to wash (and it's free!). The facilities are very safe. The gate is operated 24/7 by a security guard. I feel very safe here with my kids even when they're playing on the road since the speed limit is 15 mph (I think). The staff here is always very friendly and helpful. There is nothing to buy once you're here and if you have something delivered they will have to meet you at the gate.

The beach and the shops are about 2-5 minute drive max. Beware, finding a parking spot at the beach is tough and not the cheapest.

It is a great town and we love it. I am grateful we have this available to us since we don't have many weekends together!

    Delaware Seashore State Park Campground

    Windy!

We got a site to stay on our way through to OBX. We booked and arrived after hours, which wasn’t an issue as they were like 3% occupied. Sites were pretty level (within 2 inches) and had centrally located bathhouse. We were at the north campground. The winds were nuts and over 50mph. We switched sites to spare our slide side, so caution to look at windy before going. The views of the bridge were amazing. The noise of the coast guard waking up is alarming, but neat. It was trumpets and sounded like a horse race at 7am!
