BLM Oxbow Campground permits pets throughout its riverside campsites along the Colorado River. Located on the Arizona-California border near Palo Verde, this established campground features picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets while maintaining a pet-friendly environment. The $15 nightly fee ($7.50 with America the Beautiful Pass) includes trash service and access to the river for fishing and paddling. Hippie Hole Camping Area also welcomes pets at its free dispersed camping area with similar river access. Both locations maintain a 14-day stay limit but enforcement varies seasonally. The vault toilets at these campgrounds are functional but not always well-maintained, with some campers preferring to bring their own sanitation solutions.

Nearby hiking trails surrounding both campgrounds provide exercise opportunities for dogs, with the Colorado River offering swimming access during warmer months. The Cibola National Wildlife Refuge borders these camping areas, providing additional wildlife viewing opportunities, though pets should remain leashed to avoid disturbing local fauna. Military aircraft occasionally fly over these camping areas, creating periodic noise disturbances. The closest town with supplies is Blythe, approximately 30 minutes north, where campers can find pet supplies if needed. Many campers appreciate the direct river access at both locations, with some sites featuring small private beach areas perfect for dogs who enjoy water. Winter temperatures remain mild, making this region particularly popular for snowbirds traveling with pets.

      Ehrenberg/River Sands KOA Holiday

      A brand new desert oasis!*

Huge resort with spacious spots and full hook up’s. Mostly flat with paved roads everywhere you will take your rv/camper on your visit. Close and easy access to Colorado River for swimming, boating, seadoos and off-leash dog walking/playing. Exceptional clubhouse with a gym and enough room to stretch out, remote work, or to catch a game with fam and friends on their big flat screen tv. Firepit and golf cart rentals plus smores kits and doggie bags with a bandana, dog toy and treats are also available. Super pet and kid friendly with play systems and a 2000sqft dog park. The store could use more ‘store’ items but there is a family dollar directly across the street.

They also have tiny homes for rent and I think the longest rv spot is almost 72-80’ long.

Clean bathhouse and laundry facilities. Free WiFi. So much to mention and I know I’m missing something but I hope i helped.

Don’t forget to ask Lou if you can purchase the wakeboard in the office. And tell them you heard about the first flight discount for 20% off.

*The resort is really big. About a half mile long or more. If you have trouble doing long walks or walking in general then renting a golf cart is highly recommended.

      Rice Ranch RV Park

      New owners!

We met new managers upon arrival, and they were amazing. Got us hooked up in a great site. Brand new electrical, water, and sewer installed. A pickleball court, and a new dog park (hidden from view). We talked to management, they plan on installing a bar, a pool, bathrooms, laundry, and more in the next year or so. Very excited to come back to see how it’s changed! It is basically a dusty lot at the moment, but it has so much potential!

      Arizona Oasis RV Resort

      Great for what it is

This was an unexpected one-nighter and we lucked out with a water-front site! Don't expect a lot - it's a parking lot more or less - but it gets the job done and it's better than others out there even though its a bit pricy.

We showed up on Xmas day so the manager was nice enough to call and let us know where we could get our passes & how to get in. There are some cute little cabins and a rec hall (closed for covid) and they seem to have a little community here. There's even a tiny dog park which they created a dog bath inside - very thoughtful! There was full hookups at the site so that was a nice luxury for us.

The river is a little rundown and sad looking - but people were trying to fish anyway. And although the sites didn't have a campfire, there was a group one right on the beach with a bunch of wood. Wish we had seen that earlier! Lots of dogs but they all behaved and mine got to splash around in the water.

Very clean restrooms although they are asking that people don't use them right now (covid) which could be why they were so clean.

      Sans End RV Park

      Back at Yuma again.

Ok.  It's Winterhaven but close enough.  The park's wi-fi is now much better this year. But they are lagging in some needed repairs.  East bathroom/shower/laundry has a broken pipe and is out of service. Only one working shower in the ladies BR. And lights hanging down by wires in the mens. The park is more than half empty as many Canadians choose to stay home and freeze or go to Mexico as it is "safer" than the USA.  Jokes on them.  We will see them next winter.  Pool and spa are a great amenity and two nice dog parks for our K9 companions.  Bathrooms are always clean and tidy.   Really need to do away with the $1 showers though.   Filtered drinking water onsite for a quarter a gallon. A Bargain.  Minimum age is 45 yrs old. So don't bring the kids or grandkids.  Bingo and karaoke each week.  And the office will receive your mail and Amazon packages.   Lisa and Jeniene in the office are always a pleasure to speak to.  Treat them nice as they assign your campsite.  Enjoyed our stay again this year and hope to see everyone again next year.

Dome Rock Road BLM Dispersed Camping Area

      Desert delight and for free

If you like the desert you will love this spot. Nestled below Dome Rock is this group of BLM camp sites. Beautiful sunsets. Do watch out for the cactus if you have pets. Water and dump facilities are in Quartzsite, just a few minutes away. There are other sites around Dome Rock. Just look on the map for BLM land and enjoy.

      Mittry Lake Wildlife Area

      Loud, dusty, infested

Honestly this is the worst place we have yet to camp dispersed. The atvs are non stop, extremelyloud, fast and kicking up dust with no consideration for campers EXTREMELY disrespectful. The mosquitoes are unbearable and I have 8 bites on my face alone. There are also a lot of coyotes around, so watch out if you have pets, and raccoons are sweet but they ripped open our trash.

      Plomosa BLM Dispersed Camping Area

      Spacious !

Plenty of room between spots with space for my cat to come out of the camper and feel comfortable. Far enough away from the road makes it quiet. Plenty of dirt roads for us to ride our bikes.

    Guide to Palo Verde

The Colorado River forms the backdrop for pet friendly camping near Palo Verde, California, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 110°F during July and August. Winter months bring mild 70°F days with overnight lows occasionally dropping to the 40s. Several campgrounds along this stretch of river experience periodic military aircraft flyovers from nearby training facilities, creating distinctive noise patterns campers should anticipate.

    What to do

**Wildlife viewing in Cibola: ** The Cibola National Wildlife Refuge - East offers excellent birdwatching opportunities within walking distance of camping areas. "Great open space by Colorado River... they have covered tables with parking beside them, they have spots to park along side the banks, they have a small swimming beach like area," notes Susie. Winter months bring migratory birds, including sandhill cranes that fly overhead in the morning.

Kayaking calm waters: The Colorado River current varies significantly by season and location. At Hippie Hole Camping Area, the river access provides calm areas perfect for paddling. "We paddle boarded, watched the night stars, the blue haring in the morning," reports Imerie T. Water levels are typically highest in late spring, with some shallow areas appearing by late summer.

Desert exploration: Four-wheel drive vehicles can access numerous backcountry trails from camp. "There is a lot of soft sand you cannot get around. Recommend ONLY 4WD and knowledge of how to drive on sand," warns Graham W. about areas near Wiley Wells. Some campers bring portable air compressors to adjust tire pressure for sand driving, then reinflate before highway travel.

    What campers like

Uncrowded riverside sites: Riverside campsites at BLM Oxbow Campground provide privacy even during busy periods. "We were lucky to get a spot right on the river. The dirt roads getting back there were a bit rough especially for my brother whose van and trailer were low to the ground, but it was worth it," shares Dee S. Most riverside spots fill by Thursday afternoon during winter months.

Convenient boat access: Boat launches adjacent to camping areas allow for easy day trips. "Nice BLM CG on Colorado River. Colo and AZ state line seems to bisect this area," notes Greg L. Boat ramps vary in quality, with some requiring 4WD vehicles during low water periods.

Stargazing opportunities: Limited light pollution creates excellent night sky viewing. "We paddle boarded, watched the night stars, the blue haring in the morning," shares Imerie T. about Hippie Hole. Winter nights offer the clearest views, while summer monsoon season can bring cloud cover during July and August.

    What you should know

Vault toilet conditions: Toilet facilities at dispersed sites receive inconsistent maintenance. "The Vault bathrooms are Really Bad. Luckily I brought my privacy pop-up tent and Lowes bucket with a toilet seat," advises Miles K. from Walter's Camp RV Park & Campground. Many campers bring portable toilet solutions for longer stays.

River current safety: The Colorado River current varies by location and season. "We did find a beautiful spot along the river, and a nice clear path to the river. The sounds of the river reached my RV and was so soothing and relaxing," reports Larry B. Water levels typically run higher and faster during spring months.
