The park maintains a strict leash policy requiring dogs to be on leashes no longer than 6 feet at all times. Each campsite allows up to two pets for an additional $1 per pet per night fee. Several hiking trails throughout the park welcome leashed dogs, providing exercise opportunities for four-legged camping companions. Circle RV Resort

It’s OK for a couple weeks

Amenities isn’t all that great when they’re not maintained well. Gym has damaged equipment, pool has lose hand rails and heated pool is filthy. Pool furniture is outdated, broken and dirty. They will only play country music at the pool. The shower house looks like it has recently been updated but smells and has mold growing already. They do not allow any kind of camper except big rigs/trailers. They have a “dog park”, which is very small and smell horrendous due to there only being fake plastic grass. Most owners will also not clean up after their pets, so you or your dog may step into feces quite often there. RV park is between highway and main road - no quiet found here. Rules on what you’re allowed to put up for shade will vary depending on how much management likes you there. All in all an Ok place if you aren’t actually spending you time there.

Current update 12/13/25 The road is being repaved and resealed. They are also doing movie nights in the weekends for kids and have the occasional arts and crafts for them. For that I have added an extra star since there isn’t much for smaller children in general.

    Admiral Baker RV Park

Beautiful clean RV park within a park

RV spots are arranged in a horseshoe around a park with a playground. Sites on outside of horseshoe have to walk between interior sites to get to the park, bathrooms and laundry. Wi-Fi is good enough to work remotely. We didn’t try streaming.

Adjacent to the RV park are sports fields, picnic areas and a golf course.

The dog park is nice and clean and is reserved for RV park guests. The pool is beautiful and has a two-story tall slide. The pool is closed this summer and next (2022-23) but is normally open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

RV park is open to military and retired military.

    Oceanside RV Resort

For tent campers - pretty solid place for a quick couple stays

First, the campsite has the MOST CLEANEST restroom and shower booths I have ever visited for tent camping. This is no doubt that for those folks who are needed for good built qaulity toiletery, this will be your location.

    For the down sides;

    1. The trains - There is a rail right behind the tent sites so if you are looking for the tent sites with quiet location: PLEASE STAY AWAY from here. the trains do not operate from around 10 pm, back on operating starting from 5 am.

    2. for T1 tent site, BE AWARE that there is a dog park RIGHT next to the tent site: there will be a urine odor all over the place.

    3. If you are planning on cooking, just be aware that there is no proper location to do a dish wash. You would need some sort of wipes to do.

Amazing resort style amenities. Spacious sites

People are complaining about freeway noise, we stayed in site 3 (the closest site to the freeway) and it was quiet as a mouse from inside our (insulated) RV. Amazing amenities. Dog park, pool, clubhouse. We loved site 3 so close to the amenities and restrooms. Overall amazing stay

    Loomerland

    Excellent little getaway with animals!

Our family of 3 just left the campground this morning, and we had a great time during our 1 night stay.  To find it, just plug the GPS coordinates into Google maps and follow the instructions.  It’s fairly primitive (outhouse and water spigot), but the sky is clear and the whole place is very serene with trees and nature. They have several protective, very human-friendly dogs on the property.  They also open the barn around 0800 and allow campers to pet the rabbits, chickens, cats, pigs, turkey, ducks, and even feed the goats.  Sites have campfire rings (bring your own wood), picnic table, and a couple Adirondack style chairs.  The staff is also very friendly and informative.  We will certainly be back.

Guide to La Mesa

Camping options near La Mesa, California include urban parks with modern facilities and natural settings within driving distance. Located just 11 miles east of downtown San Diego, La Mesa camping areas experience a Mediterranean climate with average summer temperatures between 85-90°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 45°F. Several campgrounds feature water views including bay vistas, lakes, and reservoirs with both RV and tent camping accommodations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Jennings offers a popular fishing spot where anglers can try their luck throughout the week. "Lake Jennings Campground is a great campsite tucked away in Lakeside, CA. There are a good amount of campsites, and plenty with great views of the lake ('Preferred View' sites)," notes camper Moriah M. about the fishing options available.

Hiking trails: Multiple trail systems wind through Dos Picos County Park, offering nature exploration opportunities. "Dos Picos is nice if you live close by and want to feel like you're 'getting away'. Nothing spectacular but it's camping and it's CLOSE! Just a couple miles from store or your house if you live in Ramona or Poway," shares reviewer Nicole, highlighting the convenient access to hiking paths.

Water recreation: At Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, families enjoy paddle boats and lake activities. "There's lots for kids to do here! Feed the ducks, fish, ride the pedal boats. It's an awesome place for a day outside!" reports a camper, reflecting the water-based activities that make this destination popular with families seeking pet friendly camping in La Mesa.

What campers like

Concrete pads and level sites: The well-maintained camping infrastructure at Sweetwater Summit Regional Park earns high marks. "Great pull thru sites on level concrete pads. Full hookups. Many hiking trails and bicycle trails," notes Joni M., highlighting the practical benefits of the campground's design.

Urban convenience with nature feel: Campers appreciate being close to city amenities while still enjoying outdoor experiences. "This is a San Diego County Park/Campground. It offers everything from tent/car camping to full hook-up for large RVs... The campground is freeway close and only a few miles away from grocery stores and restaurants," explains Baja H., describing the balance between accessibility and camping atmosphere.

Bay and ocean views: Silver Strand State Beach provides waterfront camping that visitors find memorable. "WE LOVE SILVER STRAND! One of the best beach camp grounds probably in CA. It's trailer/rv camping only in the north and south sections. If you're lucky enough to get a spot in the 100s you park right on the sand essentially," shares Nicole, describing the premier oceanfront sites.

What you should know

Noise considerations: Many campgrounds near La Mesa experience traffic or aircraft noise due to their urban proximity. At San Diego Metro KOA, "Clean sites, and super friendly staff make this an easy and fun place to set up your rig. But, if you are looking for being in nature, this isn't the best spot. The calming sounds of the I-5 swoon you to sleep," advises Jonathan Y.

Reservation timing: Popular sites fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "We come here once a week to feed the ducks with my nephews. We've come to this lake my whole life," notes Taylor about Lake Jennings, suggesting the popularity requires planning ahead for pet-friendly camping reservations.

Site selection strategy: Different campground sections offer varying experiences. "If you don't need a pull through, definitely get one of the outer loop spaces - they're way less cramped. It's SD, so there is definitely traffic and airplane noise, but totally expected," advises Chrysti P. about site selection at Sweetwater Summit Regional Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. "The well-maintained campground boasts paved pads for most sites, making setup a breeze. Each site comes equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, perfect for cozy campfires and outdoor meals," notes Colleen D. about Dos Picos County Park, which includes a playground among its amenities.

Swimming options: Families can enjoy water recreation at various facilities. "This place is glamping for sure. They have full service hookups for rv's and trailers, bungalows and cabins. Lots of amenities for the kiddos when COVID isn't around. The new pool is great," shares Rob L. about the family-friendly water features.

Educational opportunities: Some campgrounds offer nature programming. "There is also a nature center next to the campground that offers a discount to those who stay," mentions a reviewer about Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, providing learning opportunities for children while enjoying pet friendly camping near La Mesa.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Different campgrounds offer various levels of RV services. "Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem," explains Ryan G. about Fiddlers Cove RV Park, highlighting the available amenities.

Site privacy considerations: Some RV sites offer more seclusion than others. "Each site has a nice little fire pit and picnic table, and there was plenty of room for a second vehicle in addition to our van. There are plenty of restroom facilities sprinkled throughout so nothing is inconvenient," explains a reviewer about the layout and amenities at Lake Jennings.

Internet connectivity: For those needing to stay connected, reception varies by location. "Finally, internet service was great for Verizon. We got 23 Mbps with 3 bars of 4G LTE unboosted, and 69 (!!!) Mbps with 5 bars using a simple MIMO antenna," reports a camper, providing specific details about connectivity strength for digital nomads seeking pet-friendly camping options near La Mesa.
