Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

Scenic campground with view of Devil’s Tower

Every site is a pull through. Generous spacing between sites. This is a first come, first served campground. We arrived at 2 pm on Fri Sept 6, and it was full by 4 pm. Flush toilets on site and water, but no showers or laundry. Access to hiking trails from the campground. Garbage dumpsters available, but no dump station. Payment (cash or check) is made at entrance, envelopes available. Campground management came through often. There are two loops. Loop B is more friendly to big rigs than Loop A. Cell signal was weak. Campground gets dark at night, perfect for stargazing. There is a KOA near the park entrance as well as some retail. From campground, you have to drive to the visitor center.

    Crystal Park Campground

Okay with a Lot of Potential

Arrived and parked at the new Gateway Travel Center in Newcastle to check in. We have been coming to this area for an annual hunting trip for 8 years. We stayed here two years ago and upfront its not the best of campgrounds (CG), but looks like some improvements are being attempted. This CG is still the best option for the area. The travel center and RV park used to be an outdoor movie theater back when. You now check in inside the travel center’s convenience store. You go to the check out counter, fill out your paperwork, and get your assigned site. We were traveling with another RV and were assigned sites 30 and 28, which are FHUs with 50/30 AMP. Technically there were sites 31 and 29 adjacent to our sites. The sites were small enough as it was, but if someone would have come in beside us into site 31, we would have been literally an arms length away from each other.  With both of us in our party having fifth wheels with slide outs on both sides, there was no way anyone could have pulled into site 29 between us. However, no one was placed next to us during our 5 day stay and we believe the new CG management wouldn't purposely place someone next to a big rig. We recommend that once you receive your assigned site, go scope it out. They were putting in new site signs but had not gotten to our site so the number was written on the electric box with a permanent marker. Some of the sites here are standalone 30 AMP or 20 AMP, perfect for travel vans.  There is no WiFi in the CG but the travel center has free unsecured Wifi near the pumps and in the convenience store that also has a Taco Johns. The last time we stayed here, there were pipeline workers and the CG was full. This time there were only a few transient workers. They have two pretty nice tent camping areas in the grass and their restroom/shower/laundry facility was well maintained and clean. They have 2 washers and 2 dryers that were very reasonably priced at $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. The RV sites do not have picnic tables nor fire rings but the the tent areas have a few. Every morning and evening we had wild turkeys and mule deer roaming around the CG. With the Fountain Inn Hotel and the RV Park pretty much co-located, this CG made a good choice for our RV and hotel staying hunting group.

Mountain View RV Park & Campground

    Nice Campground

We appreciated the pre arrival phone call to confirm we were still coming and letting us know our site was open whenever we wanted to arrive. Check in was very easy and informative concerning what to do in the area. We then proceeded to FHUs pull-through site 9. Utilities were conveniently located to include outstanding water pressure so use a reducer. Since we were only staying here two days, we decided to opt for the$2.00 a day additional charge for cable versus putting out our satellite dish. We received over 60 channels that worked great. Campground WiFi was satisfactory and we got 2 to 3 bars on Verizon. Along with the owners/camp hosts being very friendly, the office had a great store that carries not only RV supplies but other novelty items and they do propane tank fills. The campground sites were very well laid out. We visited at the end of the season, so a lot of their sites were already closed up in preparation for shutting down for the year. The back in and upper level pull-through sites had more spacing between sites versus the lower level pull-throughs where we stayed. The park was far enough from I-90 so there was basically no road noise. The fenced in dog park was a nice addition. Being only 30 minutes from Devil's Tower, this campground was very convenient to see local sights. Also take a tour of Sundance, this is where The Sundance Kid got his name and he had been jailed in the old courthouse. This park is a winner whether you need a nice overnight stop or a place to hang out for a while. We would definitely camp here again.

High Plains RV Resort & Campground

    Not geared for tent camping

Rolled on in and was really disappointed. We literally are the only ones in a tent. The rest of the people here seem to be long term RVs. It does have any shade. Close to town for those who like that. The bathroom and shower were okay. Felt like a pool bathroom/shower lol. Out tent is right under a light so not much for darkness. Served it purpose. Oh and no fire ring or table.

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

    Very Nice basic camping sites

I camped here for two days recently with my wife in a 26 foot travel trailer.  We entered the campground around 10 am and were able to quickly find a nice spot at the outer perimeter of the campground with a view.  This was campsite B7.  It was level, with a fire ring, free wood, clean aluminum picnic table and maybe 150 feet from the clean and well-maintained restroom with flush toilets.  Water is available from nearby spigots.  There are lots of trees and the campground hosts maintain the peace and quiet.  There are no water, electric and sewer sites, which was fine, since we are used to dry camping.  I think that the lack of services makes it easier to find an open spot.  Of course, there was great access to Devil's Tower.  We really enjoyed the hiking trail around the base of the Tower.  It is easy, and is asphalt paved all the way.  There are other trails as well, but not paved.  I was very happy with our experience here.

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

    Great Location

Great location if you want to explore Devil's Tower and hike around. A short drive past the entrance of the park is this convenient first come first serve campground.

The campground has 2 loops with all pull through gravel sites which vary in degree of levelness. 35 foot max RV length. There is no privacy but everyone there was really nice and neighbors chatted with each other. Lots of trees and some sites are shadier than others and some have amazing views of Devil's Tower. There are no hook ups and despite most of the sites being taken by RVs there was very minimal generator noise which is always a welcome surprise.

Each site had a fire pit though no fires allowed at the time we were there and signs posted and pits were taped off reminding you not to start a fire. There was also picnic tables at each site as well. Flush toilets, garbage and recycling as well as drinking water available. You can access hiking to the trails around the tower from this campground.

Also near the campground is Prairie Dog Town where you can watch these cute critters pop in an out of their holes and run about screaming. Do not try to feed or touch them. They do not want to be in your selfie nor do they want to be your friend.

You can walk a trail from the campground and a short distance on the road back over the bridge out the entrance gate to the 2 stores just outside the park. One is KOA run and had a cafe as well. Both had some camping supplies and souvenirs as well as beer:).

Decent cell coverage from ATT, Verizon and Tmobile

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

    Great views, overbearing hosts.

Campground has multiple water points and multiple bathrooms with flush toilets. Plenty of sun for solar power. Individual site has a fire ring and concrete pad with picnic table. There are multiple camp hosts and they are very overbearing, patrolling this place more frequently than a prison. They don’t even let you get set up before they are all the way up your hind end. I stayed for 13 days, most people are here for 1-2 nights. It’s hard to walk dogs around the park because you must stay in the roads and people like to speed and disregard pedestrians, park rangers are not interested in traffic enforcement. On the Belle Fourche River and lots of wildlife.

Guide to Moorcroft

Moorcroft, Wyoming serves as a convenient waypoint for travelers heading to Devils Tower National Monument or passing through on Interstate 90. Located at an elevation of 4,198 feet, this high plains town experiences windy conditions and wide temperature fluctuations throughout camping season. Most camping options near Moorcroft have limited tree cover, creating exposed sites with unobstructed views but minimal natural shade.

What to do

Explore Devils Tower: Drive 28 miles northeast to visit this iconic geological formation. Mountain View RV Park & Campground makes an excellent base camp. "Devils Tower just 28 miles away. If we had more time it would have been a great place to hang out for an extended stay and spend more time in the gorgeous surrounding mountains," notes camper Shari M.

Watch outdoor movies: Several campgrounds offer unique evening entertainment. Devils Tower KOA screens "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" nightly with the tower visible in the background. Julie W. describes it as "very cheesy but very cool. The campground is nice, not a lot of open space between each spot, but it did not feel overly tight."

Wildlife viewing: The open terrain surrounding rv parks in Moorcroft, Wyoming provides opportunities to spot pronghorn antelope and other native species. At High Plains RV Resort, one camper observed "lots of antelope" and mentioned the "view was awesome" from their camping spot.

What campers like

Convenient stopover location: Wyoming RV Park's central location makes it ideal for travelers. As Harold notes, this "quiet location near downtown" features "friendly hosts of a newly renovated & new family owned park" with "about 10 sites with Class A, B, & C RVs."

Dark night skies: The minimal light pollution around Moorcroft camping areas creates excellent stargazing conditions. Devils Tower View Campground campers report hearing "Coyotes and Great-horned Owls" at night, with one visitor mentioning, "Fantastic view of the tower at sunset!"

On-site dining options: Several Moorcroft-area rv parks feature unexpected food service. According to kandice, "The view of devils tower is amazing but the little cafe on-site is AWESOME! Their food is great homemade food at a great price!" Devils Tower View Campground's restaurant is particularly popular for breakfast.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds around Moorcroft operate seasonally. Tatanka Campground at Keyhole State Park charges substantial non-resident fees. One visitor noted, "Wyoming state parks seem to be hostile to non residents. It's cheaper to stay at a regular rv park and you have better amenities."

Distance between amenities: Several campgrounds require driving for supplies or food. Regarding All Seasons RV Park, Wendy observed, "The only negative is the closest grocery store and/or restaurant is 16 miles away." Similarly, David commented, "About 3 miles off i90 and quiet. So many parks are right beside the expressway you can't get away from the noise."

Noise considerations: Traffic noise varies significantly between RV parks near Moorcroft. Cedar Ridge RV Park camper Ann C. explained, "On a map it appears that you would be right on a lake but you are in a residential area. It is a small, quiet place with a number of permanent residents."

Tips for camping with families

Seek water recreation: All Seasons RV Park offers clean facilities that families appreciate. Maureen M. shared, "The spots are a little close together, but, the amenities are amazing! Very clean pool, restrooms and showers! They also have a laundry room with 4 washers and 4 dryers. They have a pool table and ping pong table (free!)."

Consider lakeside options: Keyhole State Park provides water-based activities near Moorcroft. A camper reported, "There is fun lake for families and friends of all ages about 5 minutes away. Rocks to jump off, live music and boats are allowed."

Bring your own entertainment: Many rv campgrounds near Moorcroft, Wyoming have limited on-site activities. MickandKarla W. shared that Mountain View RV Park "sites were very well laid out" but noted many sites "were already closed up in preparation for shutting down for the year" during their fall visit.

Tips from RVers

Plan for fluctuating water pressure: At Mountain View RV Park, one RVer noted "outstanding water pressure so use a reducer" when connecting to utilities. This campground received positive marks for its "very clean pool, restrooms and showers."

Consider non-prime locations: Tower Valley RV Park offers basic accommodations described by Kurt G. as a "Basic overnight but not bad." These less popular options often have better availability during peak travel season.

Prepare for variable site conditions: Many RV sites around Moorcroft require leveling equipment. At Tatanka Campground, Kimberly E. mentioned, "Most rv sites are on a little of a hill but level enough." Another camper noted, "Our site was not very level, but we were able to manage."
