Best Campgrounds near Bedford, WY

Dispersed camping options surround Bedford, Wyoming, with several free sites available along the Salt River and Grey's River corridor. Reservoir Disperse Camping near Melvin Brewing provides primitive sites with no facilities but allows RVs, pets, and campfires. Established campgrounds include Wolf Den RV Park in nearby Thayne, offering full hookup sites, cabins, and amenities like showers and picnic tables. The region encompasses both Wyoming and Idaho portions of the Bridger-Teton and Targhee National Forests, with camping options ranging from tent-only sites at Tincup Campground to full-service RV resorts with cabins like Flat Creek RV Park.

Most camping areas become accessible from late spring through early fall, though seasonal closures vary by location and elevation. Moose Flat Campground operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day, while Tincup Campground in Targhee National Forest typically opens May through September. "We were traveling from the snow in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and wanted to find a place close by with warmer temps," noted one visitor about Wolf Den RV Park. One camper described Tincup as having "shady, quiet dispersed camping" with a "small stream in campground." Basic amenities vary significantly between developed and dispersed sites. Several dispersed campsites lack toilets, drinking water, and trash service, while established campgrounds like Wolf Den RV Park provide full hookups, clean facilities, and organized layouts. Visitors frequently mention the scenic mountain views from campsites throughout the region. Weather patterns can change quickly, with cooler temperatures at higher elevations even during summer months, making preparation essential for comfortable stays.

    Curtis Canyon Dispersed Camping

    Incredicle View; arrive early

May 2026 the road is in good shape. Just go slow. Stayed in #9. Arrived about noon on a Friday in May. Many vehicles drove by throughout the afternoon and evening looking for spots. They fill up fast.

    Curtis Canyon Campground

    Under the Pines

About 15 minutes from downtown. Dirt road the last couple of miles up, but it’s in good shape (May ‘26). Camp host very helpful. Two vault toilets and 2 water spigots. $20/night first come-first served.
There are more dispersed (free) sites farther up the road. It’s kinda steep and a little tricky but the views up there are breathtaking.

    Palisades Reservoir

Nice area with lots of open space

I wouldn't call it a campground in the traditional sense, but certainly dispersed. A large area (not in the middle of the reservoir, as the pin suggests) with an expanse of spots to choose from. No picnic tables. The road is very rugged so go slow. Most sites are out in the open with stone fire rings. I chose one closer to the entrance for the tree coverage. It was close to the highway, so there was traffic noise, but it lessened during the night and didn't bother me. Bathroom facilities were clean, as well as the general area. Starting May 1st the number of nights were limited to 5.

    Snake River Alpine Dispersed Camping

Many bugs and very noisy but beautiful area

This was a mixed bag, we actually ended up leaving the site because it was too noisy. It’s the first week of may and there were so many college aged kids partying. The bugs were also pretty bad.. however, if it’s not a weekend or maybe not spring/ summer with the bugs. It’s super easy to get too and all clearance vehicles can make it! We didn’t take any pictures because we didn’t stay but we plan to be back in the area in the fall so we will check it out again. Hopefully a better review will come!

    Virginian RV Park

    Town & Tetons

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Virginian RV Park: Check-in was simple and smooth, and the full hookups worked perfectly. The location offers an ideal balance of mountain scenery and access to town. We were able to walk to nearby bike rentals to do the Teton Crest Trail, and it was easy to grab an Uber into Jackson to visit places like the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar (although you could walk). It ended up being the perfect stop before heading into the mountains for the weekend.

    Moose Creek Ranch

    Valley of the Moose

Moose Creek Ranch Awesome place to relax.  We were there for the opening day of the season.  Friendly and accommodating staff and wonderful amenities.  Free laundry room and full hookups.  The rustic atmosphere was a welcome experience as well as the surrounding mountains and clear stream running through the property.  Dog friendly and the staff made our dog OZZIE feel like he belonged.  They have a venue for weddings or events and a beautiful lodge as well as yurts and cabins.  I would stay here again when visiting the area.

    Curtis Canyon Dispersed Camping

    Stunning view, rough drive out

For a few miles coming out to the sites, the road is incredibly rough. Like you’ll have to navigate potholes but if you take it slow you’ll be fine— i have a Jeep SUV for reference. Camp sites don’t start until the switchbacks going up the mountain start, camping before that is not permitted according to the signs. Campsites have fire rings and plentiful gravel. Site 1 was a bit tight to turn around in so be mindful if you have a larger rig

    Curtis Canyon Campground

    Spectacular views and atmosphere

If you’re going to visit the Tetons, this is a great place to stay if you’re not into the over priced Jackson culture. Water, toilets and trash available. Best views and good walking areas for dogs.

Guide to Bedford

Camping sites near Bedford, Wyoming sit in the western Wyoming mountain region where the Salt River Range meets the Wyoming Range. The region's elevation ranges from 5,500 to 7,000 feet, creating distinct summer and winter camping conditions. Many dispersed camping opportunities around Bedford provide direct access to rivers and reservoirs, with water levels fluctuating significantly throughout the season.

What to do

Kayaking at reservoir sites: Reservoir Disperse Camping near Melvin Brewing offers direct water access. "We easily found a spot right next to the water! It was quiet and peaceful... We could kayak right off from our spot," reports Megan D., who visited after July 4th weekend.

Fishing the Snake River: Greys River Cove RV Park provides convenient river access. "Located right next to the Snake River with mountain views," notes one camper. The park sits at the junction where Grey's River meets the Snake, making it a prime spot for anglers.

Visit local breweries: Several camping areas have brewery access. At Reservoir Disperse Camping near Melvin Brewing, visitors enjoy the convenience. "Right next to a dog friendly brewery that made for a good meal and lovely to watch the sunset," writes one reviewer, while another mentions it's "a great wide open site with excellent views and an added bonus of a brewery in walking distance."

What campers like

Water proximity cautions: Reservoir campsites require careful site selection. "Main issue—can't really tell how far the reservoir tide will come up. We set our chairs up by a fire pit before dinner and came back to them in a few inches of water," warns Sara N. Another camper confirms: "The tides change often many people have found themselves under water as told by the wait staff at Melvin."

Shaded riverside spots: Targhee National Forest Tincup Campground offers cooler camping options. "Shady, quiet dispersed camping... Small campground right off highway (easy access). Decent cell reception. 4-6 campsites with tables and some fire rings. Very quiet and shady," reports Stacey G.

Mountain panoramas: Alpine Valley RV Resort showcases the surrounding landscape. "Absolutely lovely resort... BEAUTIFUL views," writes one camper. Another notes the "Full Circle of Mountains" as a standout feature, while a third mentions "great mountain views all around."

What you should know

Road conditions: Access varies significantly between sites. At Reservoir Disperse Camping, "The road from the brewery is about 100 yards and dirt. Its very bumpy but go slow with some clearance and its 2wd fine," advises johny R.

Limited facilities: Most dispersed sites lack basic amenities. "This spot is strange its 2 minutes off the highway but its right out front of a brewery restaurant and seems to be on a disc golf course... A single beat up wooden picnic table is out here with a few stone fire rings," notes one camper about Reservoir Disperse Camping.

Campground construction: Some newer facilities are still developing. "[Alpine Valley RV Resort] might be a 4 star place in about 5 years. Currently, it is a big open gravel lot, very dusty, construction work all day long with big heavy machinery," reports one visitor, though more recent reviews suggest significant improvements.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Look for campgrounds with dedicated kid spaces. "[Alpine Valley RV Resort] has a playground. If you're near the playground the kids are having fun and it gets loud," mentions one camper, providing entertainment for children.

Safety near water: Monitor changing water levels with children. At Reservoir Disperse Camping near Melvin Brewing, multiple reviewers warn about unpredictable water rise. "Close to brewery, as far as I can tell if their is a flat spot and fire ring you can park for 5 days MAX! And the local LE is strict on that," notes Dutchess S.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds have bars nearby. "Don't tent camp here. The tent area is about 20 yards from an extremely loud bar. People are outside it yelling til after 2am," warns a visitor to Greys River Cove RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Level site availability: Most Bedford area RV parks offer prepared surfaces. "RV sites are gravel and very level," reports one camper about Wolf Den RV Park, which has "a total of 14 RV sites, all full hook ups with a picnic table."

Water pressure awareness: Bring appropriate equipment. One RVer at Alpine Valley RV Resort notes, "So glad we already had a water regulator. We were told as we were checking in that we definitely needed one due to pressure being 90psi."

Site spacing: Campgrounds vary in privacy levels. At Wolf Den RV Park, "Nice wide sites, most pull through, clean showers and laundry room," while another mentions the "Very very scenic" surroundings despite the compact nature of the park.
