If you are a tent camper, I would suggest going to local nearby state parks vs. this campground. Nice for a quick weekend away in an RV. On the Mississippi River and close to town. Across the street from a dog park so if you bring your fur-friend with, there is a nice enclosed area for them to run while being supervised.
It is a nice clean quiet campground. Trails and dog park close were nice. It could have been not as nice if it was full. Sites are good and a little ways apart.
We were here for a night to see a concert at the amphitheater and everyone was super friendly. It was easy to check in, and we were able to do laundry and shower which was great. It’s mostly gravel but they have some tent sites on the grass. They are dog friendly and have some grassy areas to walk your pets which was great.
This campground has it all. Situated right along the Root River next to the bike trail. They offer kayak, canoe and tube rentals and shuttles. They also have bike rentals.
This facility is clean and very well kept. Even the shower rooms are very nice and sanitary.
This is by far my favorite camping spot. I would recommend this place to any and everyone. Family orientated and pet friendly.
Easy pull-through and back-in sites. We easily backed in to our site. There was a large open grassy area behind us that our two dogs enjoyed. Brand new fire rings/pits. Beautiful view of the bluffs. Walking distance to several restaurants. Don't miss the Nelson Creamery. Housed in an old historic building, I was expecting just an average ice cream/Wisconsin cheese store, but it was really lovely inside and it reminded me of something in France. There is a formal dining room area, wine cellar, and casual outdoor seating on a patio under vine covered canopy. Soups, sandwiches, pizzas, beer and wine available.
We only stayed for 2 nights, but the best part was the bathroom/shower house! There were 3-4 private shower/toilet/sink rooms with full locking doors. Everything is brand new and pristinely clean: white subway tile, white walls, white fixtures. Great water pressure and temperature. It reminded me of a fancy athletic club like Lifetime Fitness!
There is also a laundry facility in the building (again, everything new and clean).
Overall great experience! Located on the Root River. Cliff View has very clean bath houses. Lots of sites to choose from. 50 amp service, sewer hook up and of course water. If your close enough to the office wifi available. Some sites are tight for large motor homes, 5th wheelers and tavel trailer. If your a bicyclist, campgrounds on great paved trail. They like their grass, no rugs or carpet on the grass. I take this as a positive. Dogs n cats are welcome. Lots of seasonal sites. Camping during the week is quite!
We called for an RV site but they don't allow pets.
Not to experience and good things to do. Swimming in the lake, lots of fishing, hiking, nature center, free activity’s, and other things to do. There are water and septic hook ups and pets are fine, they have bathrooms as well. Lots of other campers and area to run around
The camping area near Nelson, Wisconsin sits along the Mississippi River with towering limestone bluffs reaching 500 feet above the water. This region experiences seasonal flooding, particularly in spring, making campground conditions variable throughout the year. The Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge borders much of the riverfront, creating protected habitat for the hundreds of bird species that migrate through this flyway.
Hiking trails for all abilities: Frontenac State Park Campground offers trails with varying difficulty levels around Lake Pepin. "Great hiking trails but very steep along the river. Can also take part in birding walks," notes Tegan C. The park features both Upper and Lower Bluff trails with connections throughout.
Bird watching at viewing platforms: Reicks Lake Park provides specialized viewing platforms for observing diverse bird species. "This park offers viewing platforms and is a great place to view many types of birds," according to GoWhereYouAreDraw N. The park sits 3 miles northwest of Alma.
Swimming in Lake Pepin: During summer months, several access points allow swimming in the lake. "In site 49, part of the outer ring of the 4th loop... Most of the outer loop sites were pretty large, this site being no exception. Sites 40-49 have a view of Lake Pepin through the trees, which was especially nice at sunset," shares Mandee L. about Frontenac State Park.
Private shower facilities: Nelson's Landing RV Park offers exceptional bathroom amenities. "The best part was the bathroom/shower house! There were 3-4 private shower/toilet/sink rooms with full locking doors. Everything is brand new and pristinely clean: white subway tile, white walls, white fixtures," reports Jill K.
Secluded tent sites: Kruger Campground and Management Unit provides quiet, wooded sites for tent campers. "I love this place. Nice and tucked away. Sites are very private. Has beautiful trails. Town accessibility: Small towns near camping areas offer unique amenities. "The town of Stockholm is an easy walk with restaurants, baker, gift shops, and art gallery," notes Laura P. about Stockholm Park Campground. Many campgrounds provide easy access to local shops and dining options.
Seasonal campground closures: Not all facilities remain open year-round. "The main restroom/shower building is being torn down and rebuilt. Construction hadn't started while we were there, but the building was closed for the season. A number of vault toilets are available but no flush toilets or showers this year," Mandee L. mentions about Frontenac State Park.
Train noise considerations: Stockholm Park Campground sits near active train tracks. "There are railroad tracks right next to the campground. The trains do not use a horn, and we didn't hear any at night," says Laura P. Other reviewers note trains pass "every 15-30 minutes just feet away from camp site."
Water quality varies: Water sources at some campgrounds may have mineral content. Neen K. noted at Kruger Campground that there was "orange/rusty water from hand pump well," though the campground was otherwise well-maintained with private sites.
Cart-in camping options: Frontenac State Park Campground offers specialized cart-in sites. "There are 6 'cart in' sites, but they are about 1/2 mile away from the main campground and on the other side of the road. Park, put your gear in a cart, and walk about 1/4 mile to your site (C1 through C6)," explains Mary S.
Playground access: Some campgrounds include play areas for children. Jennifer notes that Reicks Lake Park has "a small playground for kids" making it suitable for family camping despite highway proximity.
Group site advantages: Hok-Si-La City Park & Campground provides large group sites for families camping together. "The group sites are spacious and well spaced out, (if you can I would recommend G4 or G5 right on the lake for group sites) you definitely don't feel like you are on top of each other or another group," says Beth W. The campground is tent-only with a few cabins.
Hookup availability: Minneiska Campground — Whitewater State Park provides seasonal electric-only sites. "Price is $35 for the space/night with electric, and this time of year, there are no other options besides electric spaces," shares Amy G. regarding winter camping.

Seasonal RV options: Some campgrounds cater to longer-term stays. "This place seemed to be nice for people who want to keep their RV for 6 months at a time.
