Best Cabin Camping near Kewaunee, WI

Kewaunee RV & Campground and Mapleview Campground offer cabin accommodations within minutes of Lake Michigan. Cabins at these locations typically include basic furnishings with beds, tables, and seating areas, though amenities vary significantly between properties. Most cabins feature electricity and some form of climate control, particularly important during Wisconsin's variable seasons. Door County KOA Holiday provides more standardized cabin options with consistent amenities including beds, small refrigerators, and microwave ovens in most units. Potawatomi State Park's Daisy Field Campground includes a handicap-accessible cabin in the south loop. "This site is beautifully maintained with swimming pool, volley ball, game area, large park like setting to walk your dogs. Owners are the best. Variety of options for camping including cabins, laundry room, country store," noted one visitor about Kewaunee RV & Campground.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Point Beach State Forest offers year-round cabin rentals with more rustic accommodations, while private operations like Tranquil Timbers provide more furnished options with additional amenities. Most cabins require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when Door County tourism peaks. Pet policies vary significantly between properties—some welcome pets in cabin accommodations while others restrict them entirely. A review mentioned, "Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome." Beach Harbor Resort and Campground maintains waterfront cabins with boat access, offering a different experience from the more wooded settings at Apple Creek Campground.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from simple countertops with microwaves to more complete setups with small refrigerators and hot plates. Firewood is available for purchase at many locations, including Potawatomi State Park where it costs $7 per bundle. On-site camp stores at several properties stock basic provisions, though selection is typically limited to essentials. Countryside Motel & RV Sites offers cabin rentals with proximity to small village amenities including "couple taverns and a mini mart," according to visitor feedback. Cabin guests should verify what cooking equipment is provided before arrival, as this varies widely between properties.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

    Costs keep rising

General: Located along Sturgeon Bay in the southern part of Door County, Potawatomi’s Daisy Field Campground is divided into two loops: north and south. In addition to paying the campsite fee, you need to pay a daily ($11) or annual ($38) for an out-of-state fee (slightly less for residents). The gate attendant tried to charge us for three days - we were camping for two nights but we convinced him this should not be the case. These additional fees are making private campgrounds much closer in cost and a bit more desirable. Note: you are near the Door County regional airport; we heard many planes in the early evening, but it quieted down later.

Site Quality/Facilities: 125 sites in two loops. Gravel pads except for the two handicap accessible sites in the south loop plus one handicap accessible cabin in the south loop. Be aware that in the south loop, many (but not all) of the even-numbered sites on the north side (10-46) slope upward and/or sideways while many of the odd-numbered sites (33-43) tend to slope downward. The sites on the south side of the loop appeared to be more level. Our site (40) was challenging for our camper van to find a level spot (it tended to slope sideways no matter what we did). Even-numbered sites in the north loop (86-102) appeared to be more level and they have a filtered bay view but they are right on the road. Each site has a fire ring and large picnic table; some are electric and some with no hook-ups. The sites are all wooded and there is reasonable separation between them. There is a nature center, camp store and sports rentals available between the two loops. Firewood is also available for $7 a bundle.

Bathhouse: There is only one bath/shower facility between the two loops which was not nearly adequate for 125 sites (this is not the first Wisconsin state park we’ve been in that has had only one bath house for the entire campground). It was reasonably clean, but it looked like their idea of cleaning was to blast it with a power hose as the floors, sinks, and toilets were extremely wet just after cleaning. The showers were ok, but you have to keep pressing the button every minute to keep the water flowing. There are several vault toilets – I saw two in the south loop and one in the north loop.

Activities/Amenities: Several hiking trails lead directly from the campground. We hiked the Ice Age Trail from the campground to the observation tower but were dismayed to discover it is permanently closed due to structural issues. There are sport rentals (bikes, kayaks, etc. available) which is a nice amenity.

Don’t get me wrong – we enjoyed our stay here but with state parks increasing their costs (especially for non-residents), it was only $7 less to stay here in a tent site than it did at the private campground we stayed at the previous night with more amenities and cleaner/more modern bathrooms.

    Tranquil Timbers

    NOT PET FRIENDLY

Tranquil Timbers advertises pet friendly but they ARE NOT pet friendly. If your dog makes any kind of noise whatsoever, they are NOT welcome. Motorcycles and noisy kids however, park approved!

Harbour Village Campground & Water Park

    “Rustic” tent camping

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the “Rustic” tent camping site. We were the only people that camped over the weekend in the Rustic area. It was a very nice set up. Secluded and far away from any RV campers.

Our only complaint was that there was a HUGE party at the RV sites. Music blasting so loud from 7pm - 11:30pm. (Quiet hours are from 11pm - 8am) so that was really frustrating, especially when we were just trying to get away from city life and enjoy our campfire.

Harbor Village is the perfect location for Door County. It’s nestled next to Door County Coffee, Winery, and Brewery. Plus all of the site seeing is within an hour or two.

    The amenities were nice.

Other than the noisy neighbors, we enjoyed our time at Harbor Village. When we visit Door County, we will most likely stay here again.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

Close to town but surrounded by nature.

This is a state run campground that provides plenty of hiking, biking and horse riding trails. There is also access to Lake Winnebago for boating and swimming. The camp sites are all either partially or fully shaded with a good amount of privacy for each site. Plenty or pit toilets are provided and there are also plumbed toilets and showers available on the campground.

This campground is perfect for a weekend getaway or for those families just starting out. It is close enough to town to be able to run in and get forgotten items. There are plenty of playground equipment for kids to run and climb on. If you are looking for a rustic get away this may not be exactly what you are looking for but it is a great spot to get out of the city for a day or two.

Daisy Field Campground — Potawatomi State Park

Great State Park Campground Near Town

Overall this camp was a great experience. There are nice trails that run by the water. The sites were nice with fire ring, table and bench. The sites were near one another but vegetation between to give some barrier. The mosquitoes were pretty heavy in late July. There was one shower house that seemed to be pretty busy most of the time. There was also a child's playground with lots of space. Overall it was a great place to visit and check out the area.

    Beantown Campground

    Location was great

This was our first time in Door County. At the time of my booking, we knew a lot of people that had visited, but not in an RV so I was on my own looking. I will list the good before the bad and hopefully you will understand why the rating was given. The campground is in a great location as far as we we’re concerned. It is just outside of downtown Bailey’s Harbor, one of the many picturesque and quaint towns in Door County. From there you can go up or down the peninsula. The owner and staff were helpful and friendly enough but I have had a lot more friendlier greetings. The campground is fairly well maintained with clean bathrooms/showers. The stalls are small and some have hooks, some don’t. None have benches, a couple have a plastic lawn chair. Minor issue really but one of my pet peeves. The pool is of decent size and was heated, a big plus for this far north. Our site was incredibly level. I have only found cement sites that require less effort to level your rig. Now the bad parts. The office provided minimal information, had very few supplies beyond candy bars and t-shirts. They did have adapters to convert 30 amp to 50 amp plugs. There was minimal shade in our part of the campground and insufficient space to erect a screen house. They also seem to wait a little long to cut the grass. Our neighbors moved all their stuff off the grass before we arrived and after the previous guest had left in hopes that the lawn would be mowed. Didn’t happen. We were fortunate to have a small tree that did provide a little shade but also stopped us from putting up the screen house there. We could have still erected it but then our neighbors would be left with no room (more on this later). The cable provided no better channel selection than your antenna nor better reception. The WiFi was weak and our T-Mobile service was horrible (not the campgrounds fault) The worse part of the campground was for daily rental sites. They faced each other and were about 12-15 feet apart in the front and about 10 foot or less on your utilities side. This would be great for camping with friends or family. Not so much when you are given a randomly chosen neighbor. We were lucky, our camping neighbors were great people and we enjoyed the time we spent with them. See the photo for a better idea of how close we were. It was less of an issue on this trip because we were here to see the sites. The RV was our home base and we didn’t spend a lot time there. If we come back, it will be a different campground.

    High Cliff State Park Campground

Nice state park with lots to do

We went to High Cliff over the 4th of July, so it was quite busy.

We booked sites 22 and 23 which are a double site. Pretty good space, we were able to fit 4 tents and a sleeping hammock. There is overflow parking directly across from the site. There is a main hiking trail behind the sites, but right beyond that are some nice rock formations. A short walk down that path is to a nice look out, especially for sunset.

The beach was very busy, but it was a holiday weekend. There is a large grassy area above the beach with grills and picnic tables. The water at the beach was very mucky when we were there.

The marina was nice. We didn’t have a problem parking. The water was very choppy, so we didn’t stay out long.

There are some nice trails. We saw a lot of families with bikes. The park is also very close to a town with a grocery store (Dicks Family Foods) if you need to stock up. We had a fish fry in town which was delicious!

Winter cabin rentals in this region often require advance planning as many facilities reduce operations during the colder months when temperatures frequently drop below freezing.

What to do

Hiking the escarpment trails: Potawatomi State Park features numerous hiking options ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. "The trails were nice that run by the water. A visitor recommends planning ahead: "Nice campground with a nice bar and grill near by. Nice beach for swimming and kayaking. Was very busy when we stayed here."
