    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The Texas Hill Country surrounding Bulverde features diverse camping opportunities centered around river access and lake recreation. Guadalupe River State Park in nearby Spring Branch serves as a popular destination with both RV hookups and tent camping areas, while Cranes Mill Park at Canyon Lake offers waterfront sites with boat-in access. Within a 30-minute drive, campers find everything from primitive walk-in tent sites to full-service RV resorts with 50-amp hookups. Many campgrounds in this region maintain high ratings for their proximity to water recreation, with several facilities operating year-round to accommodate the mild winter climate typical of central Texas.

Advance reservations become essential during summer months when river activities peak in popularity. According to one camper at Guadalupe River State Park, "There is no better late spring to early summer activity than getting a good float down one of the rivers of Texas." Weather conditions vary dramatically by season, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 100°F while winter nights can occasionally drop below freezing. Road conditions to most established campgrounds remain accessible for standard vehicles, though some riverfront locations like Camp Huaco Springs require high-clearance vehicles due to rough access roads. Cell service varies throughout the region, with better connectivity at developed RV parks than at more remote state park locations.

River access represents the defining feature of camping in the Bulverde area, with the Guadalupe River serving as the primary attraction. Campers consistently mention shade as a critical amenity during summer visits, with one reviewer noting, "Most spots they have are fully shaded with trees and the area is kept immaculate." Wildlife sightings, particularly deer, are commonly reported at dawn and dusk. Weekend crowding affects most public campgrounds during summer months, with weekday visits offering significantly more solitude. Facilities range from basic (vault toilets and water spigots) to comprehensive (full hookups, laundry facilities, and camp stores). The proximity to San Antonio (approximately 30 miles south) makes this area popular for weekend getaways while still providing a sense of rural seclusion.

Tejas Valley RV Park & Campground

      Avoid this RV Park!

You want to see someone have a power trip? Look no further! The guy managing the place always has a problem with repair companies getting his residents fixed. Always demanding crazy things just to appease him. He’s threatened to call the cops on for not“checking in” with him, when we checked in with his wife and he just wasn’t informed.

He calls me today and tells me we can no longer provide rv repair service there because of another power trip move. Stay far away. The guy managing the place is a complete joke and so rude to everyone that comes thru there.

I hope the owner realizes why he’s getting bad reviews. It’s because of bad management. His wife is an amazing woman. It’s Greg that’s the issue. For those wanting to stay here. Stay far away. Unless you like to be micro managed on everything you do.

      River Road Camp

      Scam artist!

I recently visited this campground on July 3rd and when I got to the gate to discuss accessing the campground to meet up with a cousin who had reserved a spot I was greeted by a old Caucasian man who came off a little rude. I asked if they provide a military discount since I am in fact a disabled veteran and his response was no. Then I asked if I can just pay for a daily pass since I was only going to be there that evening and half the day the next day being the 4th of July and his response was no I can only purchase a 3 day pass at$12 per adult. Well I ended having to pay$99.62 to gain access to this campground and if you do the math 2 adults at$12 a person for 3 days does not equal$99.62. This place is a scam and take advantage of disabled military veterans! I would give this place a negative number of stars if there was that option!

      Bending Oaks Ranch RV Resort

      Trees

Bend oats has the best tree coverage of any other campground we have been too. Only on problem is that some sites have low hanging tree branches and not very many 50 amp hook ups. Other than that, beautiful place.

      Firefly Resort

Under New Management - great place!

Firefly Fly Resort is under new management and has made tremendous improvements to the property. The new Phase 3 has opened and has a new clubhouse and a new adult pool (Memorial to Labor Day adults only-the rest of the year open to all), large hot soaking tub, there’s also a second pool at the original clubhouse that has a shallow family section and adult section, new pickleball courts and a new 9-hole putting course, and a new walking path. We stayed at site#361 which we booked on Airbnb directly with the owner, and enjoyed the covered pergola with hill country views! The site had a huge outdoor TV, propane fireplace, comfortable cushioned chairs, a granite prep/serving counter, gas grill and dining table. We watched the sunrise from the site every morning! A perfect stay! The new official website is - www.fireflyhillcountry.com or call 830-999-2694 or email reservations@staytexas.com Or to book site 361 directly with the owner on Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1689166622240134560?unique_share_id=af8278b9-b966-4e0f-aa22-45578fec4799&viralityEntryPoint=1&s=76

      Ranch 3232

      Enjoyed my stay both times

I've camped there twice in the spring of 2026 and enjoyed my stay. Both times camped in the primitive sites which are located in the back along a single lane dirt road / trail. You can get a car to each site, but it can be narrow at spots. The sites only have a fire ring and a kinda level spot to pitch a tent. No water or electric and the Wi-Fi does not reach to this part of the property. AT&T cell coverage is also very weak in this area. Everything works great if you walk up to the community area. The kitchen area is great, the 4 shower rooms are clean with hot water and is your private bath when you use it. I tent camped off my motorcycle and the other time was rainy so I car camped out of my 4Runner. A short walk to the front of the property got me Wi-Fi, cellular, kitchen, bathroom, and chairs to hang out in. The sites at the front are much more expensive, so I enjoyed the lower priced primitive sites.

      Buda Place RV Resort

      Nice Resort Close to Austin

I have been here for seven months. Hookups and gravel site was good. Could use more weed and ant control. The amenities are great. Pool, hot tub, community area were all new and well maintained. Showers were awesome. Large private showers with plenty of hooks and place to sit. Sink and plenty of counter space. Always clean stocked. Thank you Elaine. Entire staff was attentive and engaging. Corrie, Daniel and everyone were great. Thank you. The hot tub was often used by inconsiderate families that turned it into a kiddie pool. It needs to be better managed.

    Guide to Bulverde

Campsites near Bulverde, Texas offer year-round recreational opportunities in elevations ranging from 900 to 1,300 feet above sea level. The area's limestone terrain creates unique camping conditions with rocky tent pads at many sites requiring tent stakes suitable for hard ground. Weekend occupancy at primitive camping areas typically exceeds 85% during March through October, making advance planning essential.

    What to do

Fishing at Canyon Lake: Cranes Mill Park provides excellent bank fishing access along Canyon Lake. "The water level of Canyon Lake was down so access to the water wasn't real easy. Once in the water it was great floating in a tube," notes one visitor to Cranes Mill Park.

Biking on paved trails: San Antonio's greenway system connects directly to camping areas. "Bike trail runs right by campground. Very well maintained and close to downtown," explains a camper at San Antonio Alamo KOA.

Water activities beyond tubing: The Guadalupe River offers alternatives to standard floating. "Devil's playgroup is fantastic. Lots of RV and tent sites on the water. Small store for snacks and water," shares a camper about Lazy L & L Campground and its unique river features.

    What campers like

Shaded sites: Protection from summer heat ranks as a top priority. "The upper loop also has trees which really helped with the August heat," mentions a visitor to Potters Creek Park, highlighting the importance of shade during peak temperatures.

Evening entertainment: Many campgrounds feature scheduled activities. "They do a lot of live music. They have a great restaurant on location. The camp sites are very spread out," reports a visitor to Lazy L & L Campground.

Proximity to small towns: Several campsites allow easy access to nearby communities. "Being in town, there are plenty of good and services near by. While you're there, visit the Redbud Cafe. Their Blanco Burger is one of the best burgers you will eat," recommends a camper at Blanco State Park.

    What you should know

Hard-surface tent pads: Many state park sites feature caliche or limestone pads. "The tent pads are caliche. Having a hammer is a must. Pet friendly. River to swim in. Restrooms were clean," explains a camper at Guadalupe River State Park.

Shower token systems: Several riverside campgrounds use pay showers. "Bathrooms are fine - you need tokens to shower," notes a visitor to Lazy L & L Campground.

Road conditions vary significantly: Access roads to some riverside campgrounds can be challenging. "Roads are very rough though so make sure you have a high clearance vehicle," warns a visitor to Camp Hueco Springs.

Limited privacy at peak times: Many campgrounds become crowded during summer months. "This place has everything you could want at a campground. Minus the privacy. On holiday weekends it's packed from but to butt," reports a Camp Hueco Springs visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Tent camping with children: Walk-in tent sites offer improved experiences for families. "We stayed for one night during late November 2020, it was very cold and there weren't many people staying in the park, which made it a very quiet place to explore. Our site wasn't too far from the parking area," shares a camper at Guadalupe River State Park's walk-in area.

Junior Ranger programs: State parks offer educational activities. "We worked with the park Ranger program and my son was awarded a Ranger Badge. The bluffs above the river are gorgeous. Mid November and swimming was still fun," notes a Guadalupe River State Park visitor.

Child-friendly amenities: Some campgrounds specialize in family activities. "Water amenities include one standard rectangular pool, one very shallow splash pad with several water spouts and a tiny kids slide, which flows into a deeper (3 foot) pool," details a visitor describing the extensive child-focused facilities at a local family-oriented camping resort.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Many campgrounds offer varying levels of shade and space. "Most spots they have are fully shaded with trees and the area is kept immaculate," reports one camper about their experience with the best sites.

Reservation windows: Peak season requires advanced planning. "Book in advance! This park is very popular and quickly fills up on weekend, if you are planning a trip make sure you book well in advance to ensure you will have a site," advises a Guadalupe River State Park visitor.

Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional equipment. "They aren't all level but compared to other campgrounds they are pretty even. Loved the extra parking spot for our truck," notes a Cranes Mill Park visitor describing site conditions.
