What to do
Fishing opportunities: Lake Tawakoni State Park features excellent catfish fishing areas with dedicated cleaning stations. "This lake is well known for its Catfish Fisheries all around the lake which in turn causes the lake to produce very large Catfish. Upwards of 70lbs," notes Brandon W. at Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground.
Morning hikes: The Range Vintage Trailer Resort maintains hiking trails throughout their property for exercising dogs. Sara B. comments, "The sites are spacious and there are hiking trails all around the property. It is what I had in mind when I dreamed of getting an Airstream."
Birdwatching: Fall visits offer prime bird viewing at Lake Tawakoni. "Last time I was here it was fall and the leaves had changed and birds were everywhere. I didn't encounter very many people so, it felt like a had the place to myself. Walked along the shoreline and captured several pictures of the birds who were visiting," shares Charyle C.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: The Range Vintage Trailer Resort offers unusually spacious sites. Clare P. notes, "The first thing we noticed was how far apart the sites are, and they offer plenty of privacy. When we arrived on Monday there were two other couples staying on property and we saw them in passing but didn't hear a thing."
Concrete pads: Many sites at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park have been upgraded with concrete pads. "Have about 10 concrete pads, the rest are level gravel. Blacktop roads, tennis/pickle ball court, small fishing lake, laundry, pool and tiny houses," explains Bill B.
Quiet weekday stays: Weekdays provide the quietest experience at campgrounds near Seagoville. "Our last night at The Range found us camping alone... It was a lot like boondocking with full hookups. We saw no one and the only thing we could hear were the coyotes in the distance at night," reports Clare P.
What you should know
Weather challenges: Heavy rains can affect site conditions at Loyd Park. "We stayed at site 190. It's at end of road with privacy. Our only complaint on this site is when it rains, water pours into site and erodes area quickly and will fill your mat etc with orange clay," warns TJ & Laura S.
Campground maintenance varies: East Fork Park Campground has aging infrastructure. "It must have been nice at some point but it's obvious budget cuts and other priorities have taken its toll. Bad roads into and thru the park, grass in bad need of cutting," Dennis G. explains.
Insect awareness: Fire ants can be an issue in warmer months. Jill C. shares, "Nice lake but there were fire ants and chiggers all over our campsite!" Take appropriate precautions like ant barrier treatments around tents and RVs.
Tips for camping with families
Beach access: Loyd Park provides beach areas suitable for families with pets. "We spent three days there swimming and hiking around. Great times!" reports Myc C., making this an ideal spot for pet friendly camping near Seagoville, Texas.
Child-friendly facilities: The bathroom design at Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground works well for families with small children. "Bonus in the loop bathroom they have individual rooms that have toilet and shower with a high lock. Really awesome if you are using shower with toddlers," Amie M. explains.
Playground options: Multiple parks near Seagoville include play areas. "The park has an ample sand beach area and the facilities are clean and in good repair. This park is a good warm weather get away not too far from the DFW Metroplex and worth the drive," notes B H.
Tips from RVers
Site selection for large rigs: Cedar Hill offers excellent options for bigger RVs. "The park is designed with small loops for 15-20 camp sites in each loop. Very little traffic right by the individual spots. Easy in and out of park," explains Michael C. at Cedar Hill State Park.
Mobile service availability: Campers requiring internet connectivity for work should consider East Fork Park. "5G plus signal on ATT for anything you might need online," reports Melanie and Doug G., making this location suitable for remote workers.
Laundry facilities: For extended stays with pets, Plantation Place offers on-site laundry. "Stayed for about a month. Very nice and the staff is friendly. Has laundry facilities, 30/50 amp hookups, water, sewer, back-ins and pull-throughs. Has a nice pond and pet friendly," notes Candy A.
