Dog owners appreciate the hiking trails at Purtis Creek, which provide excellent opportunities for exercising pets while enjoying the natural landscape. The primitive camping area is particularly noted for its pet-friendly environment, with a manageable 0.6-mile walk to reach secluded sites where dogs can enjoy the outdoors with minimal disturbance from other campers. Lake access points throughout the area offer water-loving dogs chances to cool off during warmer months, though owners should check for specific pet swimming regulations at each location. Wildlife encounters are common in these East Texas campgrounds, so keeping pets leashed protects both local fauna and your animal companions. The bathrooms and facilities at most campgrounds are well-maintained and clean, an important consideration when managing pets during overnight stays. Tyler RV Park

      Great location, clean and safe

This park is in a perfect spot on the outskirts of town. It’s really quiet, has a pond, dog park, walking trail and the road to town is beautiful. It’s only about 5 to 10 minutes from a fairly new shopping center and restaurants. Has a laundry facility on site. Everything is super clean. Anthony is great to work with and is very helpful. Neighbors are friendly and courteous. Wish we could stay longer.

      Tyler State Park Campground

      One of our favorite parks

I should mention that my husband is from Canada. He was very unenthusiastic about camping in Texas. Well Tyler State Park made him change his mind! He LOVED the large trees, said it was the closest he'd felt to home in quite some time. We love the variety of types of sites they offer. Lake front, group, hike in, cabin, they have something for everyone! Only downfall is they book so quickly.

      Plantation Place

WARNING : NO BATHROOMS NO SHOWERS

WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups. I get that RVs have bathrooms and most have showers, but never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers. Based on the reviews of others a year or more ago I would have to assume there are no plans for any in the future. As long as you know this in advance and are OK with it, you'll be satisfied here. For me,$36, 2 1/2 hours of an afternoon and a trip to Loves for a 2 showers and all was good but I'd have planned differently had I known.

ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!! Who does this??? No notice, didn't say anything all week. But sure took our money! Poop all over the grass. The dog park is nasty! They give you all the rules, very strick. LOUD, the highway is right here. Unprofessional!!!!! Never again!!!!!

      Tyler State Park Campground

      Options Galore!

This is my favorite state park in Texas! Lots of options for all kinds of campers. For camping, lots of different sites available for RVs/Campers, Tents, etc. some along the lake, some in the woods, and also cabins and shelters available! Hiking options vary from a nature stroll, to some more serious up-downs through the hills on the outskirts of the campground. Bring your friends, family, and pets, there is truly something for everyone here, even kayak and canoe rentals at the lake!

      Northside RV Resort

      Pretty nice but very expensive

Nice hard sites all with 20/30/50a, cable TV, and full hookups. There are 4 washer and dryers and showers for all 124 spots. So it’s iffy getting one - no place to hang your clothing in the bathrooms and or wash area. The bugs are bad here, we had ants in our trailer and lots of bites. When it rains stay on the pavement as the mud is nasty and gumbo. The road is very loud and there are train tracks with train horns blaring all night long - make sure your bedroom faces away from the road for the best sleep. The people are very friendly and responsive - while we were there the internet and water was off a lot. Management is not on site and so lots of things were going on at night. No security or patrols. Over all I would stay again for a short stay to visit family, but $55-65 a night was pretty high considering there is zero to do here , no pool, no meeting rooms, no grass to walk on. Two dog parks and one small play ground for kids.

      Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park

Would stay again, pretty good park

We spent an entire month, as we typically do, in Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park in Terrell, Texas. There is a lot to really like about this campground. We would definitely stay here again.

      Pros:

      • The park was clearly being maintained

      • The basketball /tennis courts had just been resurfaced

      • Anytime someone left, or a spot was empty, new gravel was being dumped and leveled

      • Even though closed for Covid, the pool was cleaned daily.

      • There's a small dog park area.

      • Doggie bags were provided in multiple places, and ample trash cans in which to drop them.

      • Sufficient WiFi repeaters throughout the CG

      • The grass is kept mowed down, good to avoid those Texas stickers getting in your shoelaces.

      • All but one staff member was really friendly.

      • Package receiving was well handled and painless.

      • Each visitor, even short term like us, gets a mailbox. You can go in 24/7 and check it.

      • There's a "swap area" where people leave magazines, etc. (Near the mailboxes.)

      • There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required.

      • LOTS of room to walk the dog!

      • There's ample overflow parking and trailer storage space so you don't have to crowd your campsite.

      • Laundry facility on site, we didn't utilize it since we have a W/D in the rig.

      • Bulletin board for posting things, we bought our W/D from another person at the campsite!

      • Park was pretty quiet while we were there. No ruckus or loud people. Folks walked around, talked a bit.

      • They have Good Sam and Passport American discounts available.

      Cons:

      • You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud. (We did hear a blowout, scared me to death!)
      • The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on.* There are some boggy areas you have to watch for near the pond. (Don't step on the thousands of crawfish towers!)
      • The road is in fairly bad shape, leading into the park. They could really use a road company out there to fix it.
      • There are some rigs that appear more"permanent" with stairs, patio furniture, that sort of thing. But none were run-down looking.
      • When it rains, some of the driveways do get muddy.  The gravel replacement helps.

      Other:

      • There are a LOT of Tiny Houses that have been put on the property. They all looks really new, well maintained.
      • The staff appears to reserve some spots near the front for folks coming in for a day or two to a week.  It was NOT all permanents by any means.

    Guide to Eustace

Camping near Eustace, Texas offers several options for outdoor stays within the East Texas Pineywoods region, where the average summer temperatures reach 95°F with humidity levels often exceeding 80%. The region sits at approximately 400 feet elevation with a mix of forest and lake environments that attract campers seeking water recreation and fishing opportunities throughout the year, particularly during spring and fall when conditions are most favorable.

    What to do

Fishing at Purtis Creek: The lake at Purtis Creek State Park Campground is known for excellent fishing opportunities. "It is also a popular fishing hole," notes James S., who visited the park and found the "sky lights up with stars where you're just able to see the haze of the Milky Way."

Water activities: Cedar Creek Lake offers swimming and boating options for families. "The swimming area is well marked and nice hard sand bottom," mentions Angela R. at Shiloh on the Lake, which provides direct lake access for campers.

Unique animal experiences: Just 30 minutes from Eustace, visitors can interact with animals. "Camping amongst the llamas was a dream come true! You can tell Judy does this for the love of llamas. We got a tour of the pasture, and met all of the llamas by name," shares LaRee S. about her family's stay at Llamaland Ranch.

Pickleball and recreation: Many campgrounds offer on-site recreation options. Chuck's RV Resort features "Pavillion, gas grilles, dog park and wash, pond, pickleball, other games walking trail," according to a recent visitor who appreciated the range of activities available.

    What campers like

Shaded sites: The area's wooded terrain provides natural cooling. "This is a great, non-parking lot style campground. Every site is covered with trees, and though they are a bit close together you feel connected with nature," writes Brett B. about his experience at Shiloh on the Lake.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms are frequently mentioned in positive reviews. "Love this park! The campsites are very clean, as are the bathrooms. The hiking trails are well maintained," notes Darlene E. about her stay at Purtis Creek State Park.

Family activities: Mill Creek Ranch RV & Cottage Resort offers multiple recreation options. "We stayed one night in our RV in this spacious RV resort. My kids had fun fishing and playing on the playground and LOVED that we could rent a golf cart," shares Rebecca H., highlighting the family-friendly amenities.

Water parks: Some campgrounds feature water recreation beyond natural lakes. "The water park kept my kids happy the entire weekend," writes Kayla L. about Coal Mine Ranch RV Park, adding, "They set up a movie night on the projector."

    What you should know

Accessibility: Sites vary in terms of access and amenities. "The bathrooms were a bit far from the campsite so definitely check your spot first if you don't have an rv," advises courtney K. about her experience at Purtis Creek State Park.

Weather considerations: The Texas heat can be intense during summer months. "When it rained it was a nightmare," notes Shelly W. about the sandy sites at Shiloh on the Lake, suggesting campers should prepare for potential weather challenges.

Road noise: Some campgrounds are affected by nearby traffic. "The only real drawback is how close it is to the main roads. Car noise can be heard at almost all hours," warns James S. about Purtis Creek State Park.
