    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

    Governor Jim Hogg RV Park

    RV camping

The camping area is mostly occupied by long term RV campers. Many of the campers are employed in the nearby areas. Grounds offer water/electric/sewer hookups, there are also toilets available but no showers. The RV grounds are part of the city park which offers a splash pad (seasonal), large playground, pavilion, picnic areas, arboretum, and a short hiking trail (approximately one third of a mile). The RV sites are backed up by the sheriff's office/county jail the courthouse is down the road, and there is a police department across the street. This isn't to suggest that the area is dangerous, its a small town and everything is pretty much right there. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance.

Lake Fork, a popular fishing lake is within a ten minute drive. Lake Quitman is less than ten minutes, generally this is where water sport activities occur. Pets are welcome.

Mineola Civic Center and RV Park

    Excellent

Over 150 concrete sites all level from what I could see. Well set up for Class A Motorhome sewer, water and 50 and 30 amp connections. Walking distance of big grocery store. 15 miles from Lake Fork. They even bring you a 55 gallon garbage container.

    We RV Champions

    Cool name, cool stay!

The name drew us in, the convenience, friendly staff, large spaces and the usual amenities will bring us back.

A very convenient location for a base if you are looking to go to Canton Trade Days, Edom's many art festivals, Moore's Store in Ben Wheeler to see a show, shopping in Tyler or any of your East Texas adventures.

Although near the highway and the Tyler Pounds Field Regional Airport, this rv park is surprisingly quiet and peaceful. An older park, well maintained with mature trees lining the property. A good portion of long term stay residents with smiles and waves and neat spaces.

Lake Athens Marina and RV Park

    Wonderful place

We spent a month here. We came in to attend the NRVTA and were bummed when the adjoining park was booked. So we chose Lake Athens, and what a treat! Location is wonderful. Right on a huge, nice lake. Very safe. Large field where we let our dogs off leash. Walking distance to the fishery. There is a restaurant on site with FABULOUS food. People are relaxed... not rude, or loud, don't complain about friendly dogs off leash etc. Sites are gravel but level. We have a 44ft triple axl fifth wheel, had plenty of room (we had an end site but the middle row Sites do appear tight). The permanent residents here are nice. Clean laundry facilities, allowed all our packages/Mail. There is a community fire pit near the play ground. Small area in the back with walking trails. Can't wait to return honestly. Didnt use their wifi as we have our own. We switch from Verizon to ATT, and at times signals were weak. Other times just fine. Hit or miss depending on utilization I suppose.

    Big Tex Campgrounds

    Four Stars For Now

This is a new campground that is just getting up and running. The sites are all large and shaded with a picnic table and a fire pit. Our site was also a full hookup site as was the site of our friends that also came with us. They have a camp store and a laundry mat and a couple of small hiking trails. There are several other amenities coming. The only con is they will move you. I don’t care if you picked that spot out for a specific reason (as I did) when booking, it likely won’t be your spot when you check in. I find that annoying, but that’s literally the only con. The staff was nice, park clean, and shaded sites. I did not go to the restrooms (if they even have any) to tell you how those are.

    Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park

    Nice for a stopover

We spent one night at Bluebonnet Ridge last fall on a trip to Phoenix. It appears to be more for long term RVers, but it was convenient to the interstate and a good place to stop before hitting Dallas. The site was level, but muddy, and they were very close together. Water and electric and sewer at all sites. There is a nice store and a pool which was not open when we were there.

Guide to Eustace

Camping options near Eustace, Texas offer year-round accessibility with varying levels of lake access. The region sits in the eastern Texas Piney Woods where multiple lakes provide opportunities for water recreation. Summer temperatures typically reach into the 90s with high humidity, while winter nights can drop below freezing during December through February.

What to do

Fishing at Lake Tawakoni: The area features excellent fishing spots with multiple access points. Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni has waterfront sites where "the Lake is beautiful many big trees" and "we have a view of the water and wildlife across the road with no sites to impede our view."

Water recreation for children: Several rv parks near Eustace include water features for families. Coal Mine Ranch RV Park offers "a very nice little water park" where kids can cool off. As one camper noted, "The water park kept my kids happy the entire weekend. Only drawback was not open past 5 pm but I understand why."

Visit nearby wildlife exhibits: Educational opportunities exist within short driving distance. Near Lake Athens Marina, "Walking distance to the fishery" provides an opportunity to learn about local aquatic species. One visitor mentioned it's a "cool place to take the young children!"

What campers like

Level, well-maintained sites: Campgrounds in the Eustace area prioritize comfortable setups. Chuck's RV Resort features concrete pads with thoughtful layout. A visitor observed "The roads and pads are all concrete with full hookups. The park is well maintained, aesthetically pleasing, and everyone is very nice."

Traditional camping atmosphere: For those seeking more rustic experiences, Texas Log Cabin RV Park provides "like ol school camping" with "no concrete, have common fire pit areas and they even give you the word to burn at the common area." A regular visitor noted it's a "Lil hide away" with a traditional feel.

On-site food options: Several camping areas feature dining conveniences. Lake Athens Marina and RV Park has "a restaurant on site with FABULOUS food" according to long-term visitors, making meal planning easier during extended stays.

What you should know

Educational opportunities: Some rv parks near Eustace, Texas cater to specific learning experiences. Texan RV Park & Campus serves as home to the National RV Training Academy. A student shared, "This place is an excellent place to stay while learning how to be an RV technician or inspector because the park is filled with students, teachers, and TA's who are all willing to share their experience and wisdom."

Weather preparedness: Winter storms can impact utilities in the region. During severe weather, "All park water lines froze, rolling blackouts by the state, no propane available anywhere" at Lake Tawakoni, requiring campers to have backup plans for heating and water.

Long-term vs. short-term balance: Many parks accommodate both overnight and extended stays. At Bluebonnet Ridge, "There are some rigs that appear more 'permanent' with stairs, patio furniture, that sort of thing. But none were run-down looking" and "the staff appears to reserve some spots near the front for folks coming in for a day or two to a week."

Tips for camping with families

Look for outdoor entertainment options: Multiple recreation amenities keep children engaged. Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park offers "tennis/pickle ball court, small fishing lake, laundry, pool" providing various activities for different age groups.

Check for evening activities: Some campgrounds provide structured entertainment. Coal Mine Ranch staff "set up a movie night on the projector" for families, offering organized fun after sunset.

Verify bathroom facilities: Cleanliness varies between locations. Some visitors specifically noted "CLEAN BATHROOMS AND SHOWERS" at certain parks, while others mentioned facilities "need to be cleaned more than once a week" so research current conditions before booking.

Tips from RVers

Consider site spacing: Layout differences affect privacy between camping areas. Canton I-20 RV Park receives praise for "spacious, well-maintained sites" that "made setup easy." Consider how close neighbors will be when selecting your spot.

Check noise levels: Highway proximity impacts the camping experience. Some campers note "You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud" at certain locations, so noise-sensitive campers should research site locations.

Verify internet availability: Wi-Fi quality varies significantly. At some parks "While available, is really slow" and usage may be tracked "by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on" so bring backup connectivity options if needed.
