A popular destination for boaters, paddlers, and water skiers, Lake Vermillion is a 512-acre artificial reservoir on the East Fork of the Vermillion River. Both the river and the lake are named for the red quartzite stone found along the river’s banks. Lake Vermillion is popular with area anglers for its abundance of walleye, bluegill, crappie, and northern pike. Two boat ramps provide easy access for fishing on the lake, as well as putting in other recreational watercraft. There are plenty of onshore activities at Lake Vermillion as well, with various sports fields, horseshoe pits and a short nature trail, all located within the lake’s camping and picnic areas. The year-round campground at Lake Vermillion, just 30 minutes west of Sioux Falls, features more than 90 tent and RV campsites in three areas, on the northwest and northeast shores of the lake. Most sites are equipped with electrical hookups, and all include picnic tables with sun shades, and fire pits with grills. There are also four rustic, walk-in tent sites, two ADA accessible sites, and seven camping cabins. All camp areas have water faucets, and access to flush restrooms, vault toilets, and showers; a dump station is located near the campground entrance. The West Campground also has a kid’s play area, picnic area, swim beach and fishing dock. Campsite rates are $17–$21/night, plus entrance fee; cabins are $45/night.

    In the Town Park

Call/visit the police station and pay $10 for camping. Access to the clean toilet and rv hookup. (we didn't use it since we are in our sedan) It's really a park in the town that kids play disk golfing (for free), but quiet and nice stay for a night.

    Good spot for base camp

Mostly appeared long term camps. Staff was nice, didn't have a mwelcome from other campers. Most didn't respond to a waive or hello. It was rainy, roads full of puddles, muddy. Small sites, so close could smell neighbors sewer.

Nice place but high noise level

Full hook ups including sewer connection. We were mostly there to sleep & ran an air purifier that proved white noise. Right on the freeway a lot of traffic noise.

    Nice Stopover Spot

We stayed with our class A RV on our way to and from a further destination. First spot was one right along the river. All the spots are spacious...neighbors are not on top of you. This spot had a nice concrete pad with a picnic table (not so nice with peeling paint). Views of the river and city were nice. Full hook-ups with sewer, water, electric, cable, and wi-if. Second spot was not on the river but equally spacious. No concrete pad with this one. Bathhouses were a mixed bag. One was large with numerous stalls and showers and very clean. The other quite small (2 stalls and one shower) and not so clean. Had to step around empty shampoo and conditioner bottles on floor and a used razor on the soap dish.....there in the early evening and still there around 9 the next morning. Many of the sites seemed to be extended stay and not all trailers were well kept.....plastic covering windows, haphazard decks, etc. All-in-all though an Ok stopover in a longer trip.

    Ok for an overnight

This campground is right off I90. Coming off the exit, GPS wants you to make a u-turn to get to the property on the other side of the road. Not easy with toad! This campground has 2 sides, one is literally a parking lot, and the other is beautifully tree lined. They have full hook ups and a mix of paved and gravel sites. My gravel site needed more gravel to be level. Camp office staff was nice enough, but simple and not much to offer. Nice bathrooms with showers and laundry facility. My site backed up to the highway and was very loud. Actually, the whole campground is kind of highway loud. But, if you need a place to stay overnight, it’s nice.

    Ryken's RV Park

    Nice, no-frills RV park

We were looking for a no-frills RV park in the Yankton area as a base camp. We looked at several other parks in the area and we found our home away from home at Rykens. We are in lot#6, which is right off the main highway and is easy to get in and out of the park from. We were showed around the park, which has a large building(club house) with large TV and play room. There are washers/dryers available as well. They were working on an outside patio/event area which should be up and running this year for outside events. The park itself is well maintained and the pads are even. We have a small Class C motorhome. There are sewer, water and electrical 30/50 amp hook ups. There is free WiFi which covers the park well. The cellular service with Verizon has full bars at our location. During the day, the traffic on the highway is noisy, but if run the AC you won't hear it. The owner is easy to get ahold of and responds back to you right away with any questions or issues. We also stored our RV for the winter at the park and the fees are very cheap to do that. The overall cost of the seasonal spot is the lowest of all the other parks. We look forward to staying this year again with Rykens.

    Cottonwood Cove Park Campground

    Tiny and QUIET!

Cottonwood Cove Park was the fifth campsite we rolled into in this tri-state area looking for a spot that we actually liked, and boy did we score! This is a little municipal park with only 12 sites, water/electric/cable TV for $22/night. Be aware that there is no dump station here. There's a small bath house that's presently closed for COVID-19 precautions.

Driveways and the road through the campground are crushed white gravel, but there are small concrete pads at each site for the rig and patio area. Large cottonwood trees tower throughout the campground. There are tiny campers and large fifth-wheels here, both. There's a campground host occupying one site, and you pay the host. Spacing between sites is very, very generous -- kudos to Dakota City for not cramming people into this place just to double the revenue.

The campground buts up right against a pretty natural stretch of the west bank of the Missouri River, with a boat launch and interpretive platform discussing Lewis & Clark's expedition that passed through here. The campground itself is tucked right into the middle of a neat, tidy residential neighborhood, such that it almost feels like you're part of the neighborhood.

It's been amazingly quiet during our stay. We've barely seen our neighbors, much less heard them even though the campground is mostly occupied. There are several rigs here that are long-term, presumably they're working at the massive Tyson Foods plant just up the road.

Cell service on Verizon is an impressive 4 bars, 42ms ping/65.6 Mbps down/24.8 Mbps up/3ms jitter.

We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

    1st class RV Park

Out in the middle of basically nowhere is The Lazy H RV park. The park is excellent! It's probably the cleanest park I've ever been to. The concrete pads are level and large. The grass and spacing between spots is wonderful. The staff is VERY friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Another great park in the Missouri River Valley!

Great place for RV camping. My Uncle and I went through here back in 2011. All sites were reservable on-line. Every site had electric hookups. There is access to water and restrooms in each loop. Some of the sites are right near Lake Yankton. There was decent fishing but nothing too special. The park itself is very close to South Dakota, and you can visit the old time capitol of the Dakota Territory. I love the little history pieces like this so it was worth the side trip for me. It is also right near Lewis and Clark Lake which has really good fishing in the early morning. People we met were using the spot as they were passing through the area or for taking kids out for the weekend. Pets were allowed here too.

    Nice, clean typical KOA park

Convenient to Sioux Falls arts and night life district. RV park is located just a block off of I-90 for easy access. Good location about 4 miles north of the Sioux Falls Park (waterfalls on Great Sioux River near downtown) and a couple more miles to the south in downtown is a great mile or more of restaurants, breweries, bars and other entertainment.

    Beautiful Newer RV Park

It is really obvious that these folks put a lot of thought and effort into this park. Big lake for swimming and fishing. Concrete pads and nice new picnic tables. We were greater by an awesome host who gave us some welcome gifts. Keep in mind, this is an RV park, not a campground. Sites are close and although they've planted some nice trees, they are small and aren't providing shade yet. Overall, really nice spot if you are into amenities rather than privacy. Great for kids!

    Great spot close to everything

We found the Scenic Park RV Campground when we were looking for a spot to stay close to Sioux City, IA for a sports event for our sons. We were extremely happy with this city run campground.

The pads are in great shape. They offer full hookups. We did not have a full hookup site, but still had water, electric, and free cable tv. The view from our camper of the Missouri River and the Sioux City skyline was pretty great.

The staff is friendly and welcoming. The location is quiet and everyone staying there seemed very nice as well. Will definitely be back when we’re up that way again next year.

Good stopover on way to Sturgis

It’s a casino RV park. Basic amenities. They offer free dry parking in their main parking lot. FHU 30/50 available. $30 during week, $40 weekend, $50 holiday weekend. Also has nice looking golf course on property as well with reasonable rates. As for the casino, decent selection of slots and tables with a live poker room. The kind of restaurants you’d expect. Buffet open on weekend. Quick stop cafe open during the hours you’d expect and a steakhouse open for dinner. I stopped on the way to and back home from Sturgis, as it’s about a full day’s drive from the house. Will definitely plan on using every year from now on

    Nice overall, exceptional bathrooms

Site 42 is on the beach side which is the newer part of the campground, it’s one of the full hookup ones by the sidewalk. It was level and had some shade.m; sites are average size. There’s a dumpster and a container for recycling (not at the same spot), single stream no glass. The cell signal was good and they furnish wifi which was also good. The bathrooms are stupendous! Shiny floor, air conditioned and residential faucets in the showers! No button pushing! The trails are great! There are 1 and 2 mile loops to the east and 5 miles that follows the river to the west and south. We didn’t get in the pond but lots of other campers did. The City rents seasonal spots so there was a mix of locals and travelers. We enjoyed ice cream at Blue Bunny and beer at Wise I.
