RV parks near Arch Cape, Oregon provide camping options within 10-30 minutes of this small coastal community. Average temperatures range from 40-70°F throughout the year, with the driest months being July through September. Winter camping remains available at most RV parks, though Pacific storms can bring significant rainfall and occasional road closures.
What to do
Crabbing and fishing: Access tide pools at Cannon Beach during low tide to see marine life. "A 10 minute walk to the beach, just north of Haystack Rock. A sidewalk underpass under 101 and a path through a small city park makes it a family-friendly, dog-friendly walk to the outstanding beach sunsets," notes a visitor at Cannon Beach RV Resort.
Explore historical sites: Visit the Lewis and Clark museums in Astoria, just north of the camping areas. "Astoria and the Columbia River provide Lewis and Clark historical sites and Tillamook is a definite go to see facility. Portland is only an hour or so away via a scenic drive that has a natural water spring available to load up your water jugs," explains a camper from Thousand Trails Seaside.
Boat rentals: Try crabbing from rental boats at select marinas. "Campsites are good size with some privacy. I was able to fit my 13ft pull behind with a canopy, a 2nd canopy and a 3 person tent as well as two SUV's. The sites are grassy and many have a view of the bay. There is a stocked store, firewood and crabbing. Also Boat rentals," reports a camper at Jetty Fishery Marina & RV Park.
What campers like
Indoor amenities: Heated pools and spas provide weather-independent recreation. "Great showers, internet, hookups, pool and campsites. Relatively quiet… not a KOA," mentions a camper at Cannon Beach RV Resort.
Fresh seafood access: Multiple locations for crabbing and cooking catches. "RV park has view of bay and mountains. You can rent items to go crabbing or just eat some of their fresh clams, oysters and crab. We did a bit both! Staff is friendly and hard working," notes a visitor at Jetty Fishery Marina & RV Park.
Elk viewing opportunities: Wildlife frequently visits campgrounds in the area. "Tucked away in the trees of Cannon Beach is this nice little RV Resort. All amenities were top notch for your needs at a park. The Elk greeted us and were eating all the flowers as we entered," describes a visitor at Cannon Beach RV Resort.
What you should know
Seasonal crowding: Summer requires advance planning. "We come down here to get away from the heat, inland, area. It's usually 20-30 degrees cooler, than inland. So when the heat hits the valley, everyone runs to the coastline. So it can get crowded," explains a camper at Harborview Inn and RV Park.
Internet connectivity varies widely: Some locations offer free WiFi with limited bandwidth. "The GC itself is very quiet, but there is a fair bit of road noise from US-101, which runs right next to the CG. AT&T coverage was fair, ranging from 1-2 bars of LTE with speeds up to 2 MB/s. The CG WiFi was descent, with speeds up to 1.2 MB/s," reports a visitor at Tillamook Bay City RV Park.
Shower access: Some parks charge extra for hot water. "The showers take quarters, which is a bit of a bummer, but overall just fine for a night or two. The location is great. Across the road from the beach, about a mile from Bay City and 5 from Tillamook," notes a camper at Tillamook Bay City RV Park.
Tips for camping with families
Playground quality: Check recent reviews for current condition reports. "Having children, the playground and pool are a huge deal when you're camping at an RV resort. Well, the playground was rusted over and had pieces that were missing to it, the swings were broken as well," reports a visitor at Thousand Trails Seaside.
Indoor recreation options: Some campgrounds maintain pools and game rooms for rainy days. "Very professionally run large KOA. We stayed in October and it was nice and quiet at night. Tons of family friendly activities," notes a camper at Astoria-Warrenton-Seaside KOA.
Safety concerns: Vehicle speeds in campgrounds can be an issue. "You have to be careful with your kids. People don't drive the speed limit. It's 5mph. They drive like they are in the raceway," warns a visitor at Thousand Trails Seaside.
Tips from RVers
RV site selection: Request outer loop sites for more privacy and space. "Good angles for backing in. However, inner loops you have a neighbor front, back and sides. You can hear too much because they are fairly close. This place stays fairly full so reserve in advance to get an outer spot," advises an RVer at Cannon Beach RV Resort.
Level sites: Many coastal parks require blocks for leveling RVs. "The water pressure was around 60 psi, so we used a reducer. The gravel site was not level, and we had to use blocks. The sites were very close together," reports a full-time RVer at Thousand Trails Seaside.
Road conditions: Access roads can deteriorate during wet seasons. "In November 2020 the road into the park was rough and full of many pot holes but had lots of drive space. We stayed in space 415 the only camp that had a view of the bay which was only 100 feet from the site," notes an RVer at Harborview Inn and RV Park.
