What campers like
Spacious, secluded sites: Liberty Lake campers appreciate the well-designed layout. "When arriving to the lake itself traffic splits off into one way lanes. You pass a house like structure which serves as a paystation for entry," describes Crystal C. about Liberty Lake.
Proximity to Oklahoma City: Twin Fountains RV Park serves as a convenient base for exploring the region. "Twin Fountains is right off where I-35 and I-44 meet in Oklahoma City so it's fairly easy to get to this campground," explains MickandKarla W. from their stay at Twin Fountains RV Park.
Lakeside access with flat terrain: Central State Park offers waterfront sites with level areas for setup. "The site had a spacious gravel pad, a sturdy picnic table on a concrete pad, a fire pit, a grill, and even a standing-height area that was perfect for setting up our camp kitchen," shares Nashoba_tohbi in their review of Central State Park.
Quiet setting for overnight stays: Clearview RV Park provides a peaceful overnight option outside of Enid. "Great, peaceful setting outside of Enid, Ok! This was a little off the beaten path, but if you're looking for a peaceful, clean park...this is it!" reports Jennifer H.
What you should know
Payment systems vary by location: Many campgrounds around Guthrie use self-pay stations. "You are supposed to park and walk in the 100 yards to the campsites however I did notice that locals drive into this area. It is pretty open and the main concern is that you pay for day use or overnight uses," notes Crystal C. about Guthrie Lake.
Limited shower facilities at some parks: Not all pet friendly camping near Guthrie, Oklahoma includes modern bathroom facilities. "If I had to nitpick, the only real downside was the lack of showers in the area we stayed," mentions Nashoba_tohbi about Central State Park.
Tent-only restrictions at specific sites: Guthrie Lake designates specific areas for tent camping. "The pros were great water access, flush toilets, great parking and access to a self pay station. The cons, completely primitive and the roadway is pretty close to the camping area," explains Crystal C. in her review of Guthrie Lake.
Weather considerations for tree coverage: Storms can affect wooded camping areas. "Check weather before traveling, it is very common for bad weather to roll through this area and with all of the trees you want to make sure you are safe," advises Crystal C.
Tips for camping with families
Reliable fish stocking for kids: Liberty Lake maintains consistent fish populations for family outings. "Great place to take the kids, grandkids to Fish and have fun behind the boat on toys," recommends James S.
Deer watching opportunities: Some campgrounds feature regular wildlife visitors. "The kids loved feeding all the deer. Great clean park!" shares Rachael V. about her family's experience at Scissortail Campground.
Swimming area accessibility: Dedicated swimming zones provide safer family options. "Just beyond that a swimming 'beach'. This was a little perplexing to me because there was less than a foot of red dirt sand then water which was marked as appropriate. The beach itself was tiny but it was nice to see they had created a space unique to swimming in the area for safety," notes Crystal C. about Liberty Lake's swimming area.
Camp kitchen setup areas: Some sites offer designated cooking spaces. "The site had a spacious gravel pad, a sturdy picnic table on a concrete pad, a fire pit, a grill, and even a standing-height area that was perfect for setting up our camp kitchen—super convenient for outdoor cooking," describes Nashoba_tohbi.
