Campgrounds surrounding Calera, Oklahoma cluster around the shores of Lake Texoma, with several locations offering a mix of RV sites, tent camping, and cabin accommodations. Lake Texoma State Park provides established camping areas with full hookups for RVs, while nearby Corps of Engineers campgrounds like Burns Run East, Burns Run West, and Platter Flats offer more accessible options along the lakeshore. Choctaw RV Park in Durant presents a developed alternative with amenities including concrete pads and shuttle service to the adjacent casino. The region supports multiple accommodation types from basic tent camping to glamping experiences.

Campers planning visits should consider seasonal patterns that affect campground operations in the area. "Year round enjoyment is part of the reason I like this place! Even though some of the campground is closed in the off season it still offers great camp sites," noted one visitor about Lakeside Campground. Several camping areas operate seasonally, with Burns Run East open April 1 to October 31, and Lakeside Campground running April 1 to September 30. Lake Texoma water levels can fluctuate, and flooding has historically affected some campgrounds. Most established sites require advance reservations through recreation.gov or property-specific booking systems. Cell service varies but remains generally reliable throughout the region, with T-Mobile users reporting strong 5G coverage at certain campgrounds.

Waterfront access represents a significant draw for campers visiting the Calera area. Platter Flats receives positive reviews for its lakeside views, with one visitor mentioning, "We've always been able to find an open spot with a nice view." Traffic patterns affect camping experiences, particularly on weekends when day-use visitors increase at popular lake access points. Campgrounds with equestrian facilities like Platter Flats provide unique mixed-use environments where visitors can observe horses, though some reviewers note this creates dust and odor considerations. Travelers seeking quieter experiences might consider weekday visits or exploring less-trafficked campgrounds. Most established camping areas feature concrete picnic tables, fire rings, and restroom facilities, with varying levels of shower availability and hookup options across properties.

      Sugar Hill RV Resort

      They have the best cookies!

We've had a wonderful experience at Sugar Hill RV Resort. The park is gorgeous, quiet, and always well-maintained, but what really makes it special is the staff. Kyla goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, she gave us cookies and is always quick to help with anything that comes up. It's rare to find a place that feels this friendly and genuinely cares about its guests. We highly recommend Sugar Hill to anyone looking for a great place to stay.

The Point Campground — Chickasaw National Recreation Area

      Well spaced sites and quiet!

Really beautiful scenery; the sites are pretty well spaced with the upper loop being better for larger RVs and the lower loop more for tent and car camping. Sites are extremely well maintained and the campground is very peaceful. We stayed in 42 which only had one neighbor but our fav site was 54. It is farther out than Buckhorn but closer proximity to a wal mart and just perfect for us. Buckhorn is busier.

Great North Texas Spot to Explore

About 45minutes north of Dallas which makes easy entry and exit. Very clean amenities, spacious sites, better than average dog park, good amount of grass and walking trails around. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Even had a small fitness room that will work in a pinch.

      Whispering Woods of Texas

      Glamping it in Nature

We are not much into camping but love the outdoors.  We loved the Whispering Woods vibe as it gave us the comforts of home (bathroom, kitchen, shower, comfy bed) yet in an outdoor setting.  Lots of options to stay from a Boho tent, Airstream and other types of tents making it a perfect place for a family reunion or several families to stay.  We appreciated the details of coffee in our Airstream and sitting on the patio early morning listening to the birds chirping.  The air is fresher there and the stars, wow, I forgot how many there actually are.  Fire pit was great for conversation, relaxing and peaceful.  We highly recommend this place to get recharged and only 90 min from our home in Frisco, TX.

      All Inn RV Park

Clean, Quiet Park Steps from WinStar

Great stay at All Inn RV Park. The sites are clean and well laid out with full hookups that worked perfectly. It’s very peaceful but still just minutes from WinStar Casino, which is a huge plus. Easy access right off I-35 makes it super convenient for travelers. Overall, a smooth and comfortable stay, would definitely come back.

    Guide to Calera

Camping sites near Calera, Oklahoma cluster around Lake Texoma, offering diverse options for outdoor recreation at an elevation of around 700 feet. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures. Most campgrounds remain accessible year-round though amenities and services often change seasonally, with peak camping season running April through October.

    What to do

Hiking trails: Eisenhower State Park offers several hiking paths suitable for various skill levels. "The trails are great and the Rangers are friendly and share a lot of knowledge. Cool beach with caves," notes a visitor at Eisenhower State Park Campground.

Swimming beaches: Many Lake Texoma campgrounds provide dedicated swimming areas with sandy shorelines. "We stayed in site 13 on loop B and we were located close to the bath house, which was very convenient. The beaches were clean and had legit beach sand, which was very nice," reports a camper from Burns Run West.

Horseback riding opportunities: Platter Flats features an equestrian section with trails. "Half of the campground is an equestrian camp. There are great hiking trails and beautiful views. Good shady spots. We had two kids with us and we loved walking around the campground and seeing all the horses," shares one visitor.

    What campers like

Lake access: Many campsites offer direct water access for swimming and fishing. "Our site was right on the lake. Luckily no one was in the site next to us, so we enjoyed a gentle slope down to the water. The water was fantastic for swimming right off our site," reports a camper at Lake Texoma State Park.

Shaded campsites: Burns Run West provides excellent tree cover. "It is very clean. Lots of shade and great campsites. It was hard to pick which campsite to use. The bathrooms & showers are very nice and really clean. Everyday there was a cool breeze coming off the lake."

Fishing opportunities: The region offers excellent fishing conditions. "Great fishing on beautiful Lake Texoma. Bathrooms are always clean. Fellow campers are very friendly. We love Eisenhower state park," writes a visitor. Another notes, "We caught nice catfish off the big rocks" at Burns Run West.

    What you should know

Amenities vary significantly: Facilities range from basic to comprehensive. "The sites are spacious pull through sites. There's a small pond that had Canadian geese swimming in it. The bathroom and shower area was immaculate and felt like a nicer hotel. There's a kids playground, nice pool, and dog play area," reports a visitor to Choctaw RV Park.

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat can be intense. "In the summer it gets very hot, nice hiking," mentions a reviewer at Eisenhower State Park. Weather impacts accessibility at certain sites.

Reservation requirements: Most sites require advance bookings, especially during peak seasons. "Also there was no attendant and we switched sites for the weekend with no issue," notes a Platter Flats camper, though this appears uncommon.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach access evaluation: Some swimming areas require navigation. "The swim area in this park is down a pretty steep gravel trail that I had a hard time navegating. There is very limited bank access since the park sits about 50 feet up from the water line," cautions a visitor to Eisenhower State Park.

Group camping options: Several parks accommodate larger gatherings. "Our big group has gone to Eisenhower twice. The park is on Lake Texoma. We went to kayak and camp. They have good hiking trails, great campsites, and lots to do," shares a group leader.

Playground access: Riverview RV and Recreational Park offers additional amenities. "River access is frowned upon. They have a playground and dog area I believe too but did not use," notes a visitor. The park also features "gated security" for added safety.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup details: Electric service types vary by location. "Most rv sites are 30 amp. Section B is 50 amp. Sites are water and electric, no sewer sites. There are 2 dump sites on the way out," explains a visitor to Lakeside Campground.

Pad construction: Surface types influence leveling requirements. "Roads and Pads were perfectly paved and level. Safe atmosphere with gated access," reports an RVer at Riverview RV and Recreational Park. At Lake Texoma State Park, "most of the RV sites have nice, level concrete pads (except the one we choose ... spot 11 ... crushed granite)."

Cellular connectivity: Service varies by provider and location. "I had 5G 4 bars with T Mobile. Sites are asphault and generally spaced apart so you are not right on top of each other," notes a Lakeside Campground visitor.
