Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Rossford, OH

Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA's fenced dog park provides a dedicated space for pets at this Perrysburg campground. The wooded property offers full-hookup RV sites, tent camping areas, and pet-friendly cabins where dogs are welcome throughout the stay. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings with firewood available for purchase. The property features clean, modern individual bathrooms with showers that are consistently maintained. Guests note the campground is particularly well-suited for traveling with dogs, as the dog exercise area remains one of the driest spots even during rainy conditions. The staff enforces standard leash requirements outside designated pet areas and provides daily garbage pickup from campsites before noon.

Nearby campgrounds with pet accommodations include White Oak Campground in Whitehouse and Monroe-Toledo North KOA in Petersburg, Michigan, both allowing pets with similar amenity levels. Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides a convenient overnight option for travelers with pets, offering electric hookups for $20 per night. Most campgrounds in the region require pets to be leashed at all times outside vehicles or designated areas. Wildlife sightings are common near several of these properties, so owners should monitor pets carefully during dawn and dusk hours. The turnpike service plazas offer 24-hour access to restrooms and food options when staying with pets at the adjacent RV parking areas, making them practical for single-night stays while traveling through northwestern Ohio.

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.

    Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

    Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

    Adventure Bound Pleasant View

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

    Van Buren State Park Campground

    Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

Guide to Rossford

Rossford camping options span a range of environments from wooded lakeside settings to turnpike-adjacent convenience stops. The area sits at approximately 615 feet elevation within the Lake Erie watershed, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F during peak camping season. Fall camping brings colorful foliage but requires preparation for temperatures that can drop below 45°F at night.

What to do

Hiking trails at Oak Openings: White Oak Campground sits directly on the 15.5-mile Scout Trail loop. "I camped at this campground after completing the 15.5 mile Scout Trail loop (aka 'Hiking Trail' and Yellow trail) that runs through Oak Openings. I was able to park my car here in the morning, hop on the trail (which runs right through the campground), and return later in the day," notes Cassandra C. at White Oak Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes in the area offer fishing access without requiring a boat. Sterling State Park provides both dedicated fishing piers and kayak access to catch bass and walleye. "There is a boat launch which is extremely popular and the bass and walleye fishing can't be beat. No boat, no problem. The park has several fishing piers as well as a kayak launch into a small inlet which is navigatable all the way to the beach," explains Frances V.

Swimming in natural settings: The region offers several swimming options during summer months. At Big Sandy Campground, a dedicated lake provides swimming separate from fishing areas. As one visitor notes, "Nice sites, a great little lake to swim another area to fish. They had great fireworks and simple outdoor fun."

What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA receives positive feedback for its individual bathroom units. "The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean," reports Julia H., who appreciated the private facilities during her stay.

Tree coverage for shade: Campers consistently mention appreciation for wooded sites. "Not far off route 80 you will find this cute campground that has ambience and great service. My favorite part is all the trees. Everyone is close together but feels cozy," shares Julie K. about Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA.

Free firewood: White Oak Campground stands out for providing complimentary firewood to campers. Kevin K. shares, "Well kept campground, bathrooms were very clean, and nice to have the firewood included. We will definitely be back." This unique amenity saves campers the typical $6-8 per bundle cost common at other area campgrounds.

What you should know

Early arrival fees: Some campgrounds charge for early check-in. "We were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience," reports Julia H. about her experience at Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA.

Weekend vs. weekday crowds: Monroe-Toledo North KOA experiences significant population changes between weekdays and weekends. "We spent 10 days here and enjoyed it. Staff were really friendly. It was crowded on the weekends, but during the week it emptied out," notes Tina about Twin Acres Campground.

Turnpike service plaza options: Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides a simple overnight option with electricity. "Simplicity at its finest. Highway stop is open 24 hrs so you have food and bathrooms all night. Everything is bright, nice and clean and feels very safe. We loved the hiking, bike trails, playground at Mallard lake area, and the kids liked exploring the sand dune area," shares Kevin K. about the diverse activities available.

Tips for RVers

Sewer connection placement: RVers should check the position of utility hookups before setup. "Nice campground, gravel semi level spot. Full hookup but sewer connection was at very back of spot. We used dump station," advises Jackie M. about her stay at Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA.

Level paved sites: For easier setup, Bluegrass Campground offers accommodations for various RV sizes. "The campground is filled with mostly seasonal campers and the campsites are very close together. There are large trees on the property for shade," notes Lyle M., highlighting both advantages and limitations.
