Please note Crane Pond Road from the lower parking lot to the pond itself is NOT maintained and often gets very muddy. 4WD is required, if you go back there without it your day is gonna suck. From experience - if your vehicle isn't lifted you may come out with a ding or two from rocks and other things jutting out of the ground. Not fit for an RV in any capacity. The parking lot at the end of Crane Pond Road is relatively small but can fit at least 6 vehicles. There is an outhouse near that lot and a foot bridge off to the right, leading to Pharaoh Mtn Trail.
If you're staying to camp there are (9) sites only accessible by boat (I haven't found a map that numbers/letters them), except the one right by the parking lot. There is a trail leading to that one. My family and I have never used the other sites so I can only attest to the one which is freaking GREAT. There is a stone cliff near it that goes down about 12(?) feet and is great for fishing or jumping off of. There is also a stone area right by the water if you want to fish or just sunbathe. Stone fireplace on site. The view right there is beautiful and at night you can hear the loons (visible during the day as well).
I love the spacious campsites. It’s very woodsy between sites, so it seems very private. Bathrooms and Showers are clean. Over 20 miles in hiking trails, this is one of the nicest parks, I’ve visited.
This is a state campground with some remote sites. However it is a gateway to Pharaoh Lake Wilderness. Lots of hiking trails to many ponds and one lake most of which have lean tos and other sites which are free. People are pretty quiet and respectful as opposed to Rogers Rock which was getting completely out of hand. Generators and loud music at all hours. Only takes a few bozos to ruin the camping experience for those around them. Then there are the many jet skiers who disregard not only the wake laws but have no consideration for those trying to load and unload boats at the launch as they speed by. Anyway, I love Putnam Pond! Also very nice paddling pond and decent swimming!
I stayed at Alpine Lake RV Resort for three nights and had an absolutely fantastic experience. The entire resort is beautiful and well-maintained, with peaceful surroundings and stunning natural scenery. The lake views are especially breathtaking — perfect for early morning coffee or a sunset stroll.
The RV sites were spacious and clean, with full hookups and easy access. Everything was well organized, and I appreciated the quiet atmosphere and friendly neighbors. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming from the moment I arrived, making check-in a breeze and offering tips on things to do in the area.
There were plenty of activities to keep me entertained — from relaxing by the lake and enjoying the hiking trails to spending time at the recreation areas. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or an active getaway, this place has something for everyone.
I’ll definitely be returning and would recommend Alpine Lake RV Resort to anyone looking for a memorable outdoor escape.
Camping on the Battenkill is truly a gem in the Green Mountains. Excellent location and quiet campground with Battenkill swimming and world-class trout fishing. It features, wooded, sunny and on the river sites. W/E/S is available at some sites and W/E at others(nearest the river) as well as tent sites. All these sites are very roomy/private, with pull-thrus available and back-ins. There are two newly renovated, immaculate bathrooms. A lovely well-maintained grassy play area and great dog area for play/exercising. The camp office/store has also been all redone and has a great mix of items/supplies. There are washers/dryers on the grounds as well as firewood and ice available to purchase. We are very happy seasonal campers. It is under new ownership and the new manager is just spectacular,Janet will go out of her way to be extra helpful and accommodating and friendly as well as hands on. Our site has S/W/E with cable and wifi, and is nicely shaded-25b. We are here May 1-Oct12, and sad to leave every year and anxious to return every spring! This is truly a lovely and pretty park. We camped at Camping on the Battenkill in a Fifth Wheel.
Stayed twice - first time at site 59 with a 28' travel trailer and second time at 56 with a tent. This is a great home base to explore from the Lake George region to Ticonderoga to day hikes or cycling. Both times the bathrooms and showers were immaculate. The staff does a fantastic job of maintenance. This is an old-growth forest area to a site on the west side of the road gives best Morning sun - sites 57 and 59 are good examples.
Owner aggressively berated my family for “checking out” 30 minutes late (no check out time was mentioned when we arrived, on camp map, in bathroom, etc). Very strange interaction, which nearly ruined my wife’s birthday, and which was the most memorably awful human interaction of my family’s travels all across eastern North America from Newfoundland to Florida. Camp is ok if a little run down… but watch out for female owner. Weirdly out of place in generally chilled out and hospitable Vermont
Access to campground is on a gravel road but my van did okay. It is small and primitive and there is a camp host who is very nice. Within walking distance from the campground are accesses to hiking / biking trails. Sites are spacious and shady.
It was a very quiet location. There was plenty of room between sites. The roads going in and leaving were well maintained. I accidently booked a tent site, and my popup camper and truck almost didn't fit. We will have to go back and get a shelter site. This way we can get the beautiful views of the mountains. We both enjoyed the Coolidge State Park
