    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Camping near Canandaigua, New York

Campers exploring the Canandaigua area discover a delightful mix of lakeside retreats, wooded state parks, and family-friendly RV resorts. Just minutes from downtown, Canandaigua City Park Campground offers easy access to local shops and the lakefront beach, making it a convenient base for those who want town amenities within walking distance. A short drive farther out leads to Keuka Lake State Park Campground and the privately owned Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, both of which feature spacious sites, clean facilities, and excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and fishing on the Finger Lakes. For those seeking a quieter experience, numerous backcountry and dispersed sites are tucked into the surrounding National Forest, where campers can truly unplug—though it’s essential to bring all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill and the Stay Bristol Woodlands campground blend rustic charm with modern comforts: well-maintained restrooms, picnic shelters, and on-site hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests and offer scenic overlooks, especially stunning during fall foliage season. Travel logistics are a breeze when visitors prearrange an airport shuttle from Rochester or Syracuse airports, ensuring a smooth transition from plane to campsite. And for adventurers mapping out multiple stops across the Finger Lakes or beyond, reliable multi-city transfers provide comfortable, door-to-door rides—no rental car necessary. With its blend of waterfront sites, wooded hideaways, and nearby attractions—wineries, waterfalls, and historic villages—the Canandaigua region truly has something for every type of camper. Whether pitching a tent under the stars or rolling in with an RV, visitors will find endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

    Good location

Location: This park is close to Ithaca which was the best part. Trails and Natural Features: We loved the waterfall, swimming area (seasonal so closed when we stayed), and the fall colors. Sites: They have very few electric sites so we decided to boondock. It surprised me that all the full hookup sites were reserved but very people actually showed up for their reservations while we stayed. Lame. And heads up that if you don’t stay in the big clearing for big rigs, there are tight turns between trees to get in and out of the non-electric sites. We ended up making a back-in site into a pull-through site… whoops. Starlink: I work remotely so internet is important. We weren’t camping in the clearing because those sites were booked, but even the Starlink struggled where we were and I ended up working from the library in town. So heads up if you need internet. Bathrooms: They were spacious but older. Temperature in the showers was tricky. Hot is cold and cold it hot. Cool stuff: They had compost bins and provide bags for all campers. That’s cool!

    Keuka Lake State Park Campground

    Another beautiful State Park

Keuka Lake is small, boat launch, small beach playground at beach and camp ground. Hiking, biking. Not far from Penn Yan, nice city, winery's are all over. TV reception there is none, cell phone not great either. Lake is clean and clear, great for fishing, boating, and swimming. Park is clean and well maintained.

    Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

    Webster Park

    Close Family Camping

We go to webster park family campground several times a year for the past few years. Usually sometime in early May and in late October with an occasional day or two mid summer. It is a smaller single loop campground with sites for tents/small trailers, larger trailers, and motor homes. He difference is 30a power and no water or sewer, 50a power and water, and 50a power and water/sewer. There is a dump station. The motor home sites are all along the entrance road. The small and large trailer sites are distributed around the loop. Nice central playground and bathroom/shower house. There is hiking in the park, lots of nice woods, big field for playing games/sports. It’s close to town and home for us. We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well. We stay on the outer ring on that side of loop as it gives access to the woods and trails behind the sites. The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone.

They allow reservations online on the monroe county parks website, and are open May 1st to October 31st.

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Ferenbaugh Campground

    Relaxing place to stay

This CG has two distinct sections. Near the entrance is the Pull Through Area. Behind a row of trees there are several sites with full hookups including cable TV and Wi-Fi. The sites are open, reasonably level, and a good size. The other sites are in the woods, most of these sites do not have sewer connections. There is a honey wagon service available. We camped with a relative who was new and we were teaching them how to operate their camper. We had a couple of dry days then some rain. Still was a great teaching/learning experience.

Make sure you use a water filter, there was a lot of sediment in the water when we were there. See pictures of 4 days on a new cartridge.

We had a fantastic sunrise one morning.

Guide to Penn Yan

Penn Yan offers several RV camping options within the Finger Lakes region of New York, located at approximately 750 feet elevation on the northeast arm of Keuka Lake. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-80°F during peak camping months of June through August. Winter snowfall can exceed 60 inches annually, contributing to spring water levels in lakes and creating muddy conditions at some campgrounds in early May.

What to do

Winery walking trails: Access two wineries directly from Finger Lakes RV Resort via dedicated walking paths. "There are walking paths from the campground to two different wineries," notes Matt S., who adds this makes the location "a great place to stay for wine and waterfalls."

Waterfall hiking: Visit nearby gorge trails within 30-minute drives. "We've been hiking the last few days - Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail (go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge & North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake," reports a visitor to Finger Lakes RV Resort.

Kayaking: Lake Bluff RV Park provides water access points. "Had a large, private plot in drumlin loop. Close to the beach which was very pretty and clean. Hiking trails, kayaking, and lots of other fun activities," mentions Jay P.

Farm exploration: Smaller campgrounds like Woonton Family Farms offer agricultural experiences. "We had an excellent stay at the farm of the Woonton Family Farms with our RV, it was a cozy and beautiful campsite with personal attention of the owner. We had a great campfire, fresh blackberries and the option of canoeing," writes Willemien V.

What campers like

Clean bathhouse facilities: RV parks near Penn Yan prioritize bathroom cleanliness. "The bath house is immaculate and rivals those at Fort Wilderness Resort," reports Craig F. about Finger Lakes RV Resort, adding "Amazing RV park! I can't stop talking about the Finger Lakes RV park and the great experience we had there."

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer adequate separation between sites. "All of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing," notes one visitor to Finger Lakes RV Resort, while another mentions "the campground sites are very large and spread out."

Family-operated businesses: Personal touches distinguish several campgrounds. At Stay Bristol Woodlands, "The new owners have brought this place to a new level. Great amenities, real Wi-Fi and a great pool," according to Donald R. Similarly, at Lake Bluff RV Park, a visitor noted it was a "friendly family owned" campground.

Reliable WiFi: Unlike many rural campgrounds, several RV parks in the Penn Yan region maintain strong internet connections. "WiFi was strong enough to do work calls," reports Laura W. about her stay at Finger Lakes RV Resort, where they would "give it 6 stars if that was an option."

What you should know

Water quality issues: Bring filtration systems when connecting to local water. At Hejamada Camping Resort, campers reported "sewage smells from the leech fields" during a Labor Day weekend stay. Multiple campgrounds throughout the region recommend water filters for RV connections.

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds operate May through October with limited off-season availability. Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort runs April 15 to October 31, while Lake Bluff RV Park operates mid-April through October.

Limited shade at newer parks: Recently established campgrounds have younger trees. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, a visitor noted, "Being a newer campground, the trees are small, but that did not take away from the experience," while another advised, "There's no shade from trees or otherwise. If you're visiting during the summer, be sure your air conditioning and awnings are working."

Reservation requirements: Peak season demands advance booking, especially weekends. One visitor to Stay Bristol Woodlands mentioned they "have been staying at this Jewel of a campground for years," suggesting its popularity requires planning ahead.

Tips for camping with families

Speed restrictions benefit young cyclists: Campgrounds with strict driving rules provide safer environments. At Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort, "The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area and the pool far enough from the campsites but close to the store and watchful eye of the staff," reports Rachel T.

Activities vary by campground: Some parks focus on quieter experiences while others program regular events. At Red's Twilight on the Erie, a visitor noted "Live music on Friday Night (weather permitting) and plenty of activities for the family on the weekends," while another mentioned "the pool is nice and staff friendly."

Weekend programming: Schedule your stay during organized event weekends for maximum family entertainment. At Lake Bluff RV Park, a visitor shared, "They do events for kids every weekend. If you camp 6 nights in one season you get a night free!"

Pet policies differ: Confirm pet restrictions before booking. While most RV parks near Penn Yan permit dogs, some enforce breed limitations or require designated walking areas. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, Rosa J. appreciated that "the dog park gave our pups plenty of time off leash."

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Prepare leveling blocks for some campgrounds. At Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort, one camper noted, "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled."

Site selection strategy: Request sites away from main roads and activity centers for quieter stays. At Stay Bristol Woodlands, a visitor noted, "Site was level and well equipped (waste water disposal attach site!)."

Insect protection: Pack extra mosquito repellent during summer months. At Hejamada Camping Resort, visitors experienced "an insane amount of mosquitos" during Labor Day weekend.

Access road conditions: Some campgrounds have challenging approach roads. At Lakeview Campsites, a visitor warned of a "gravel inclined access road that may not be for new RV owners" despite describing it as an "incredible experience, very clean, quiet secure campground."
