Sprague Brook Park accommodates pets at all 123 campsites with fire rings and picnic tables, providing a mix of electric and non-electric options for tent and RV camping. Most sites maintain adequate spacing between neighbors while still offering a family-friendly atmosphere. East Otto State Forest offers 14 free primitive campsites where campers with dogs can enjoy a more secluded experience without hookups or facilities. HTR Niagara Campground and Evangola State Park Campground both welcome pets with designated pet-friendly cabin options for those seeking shelter while traveling with animals. Colden Lakes Resort maintains clean sites with seasonal and transient options for pet owners, though some campers note that sites near the pavilion experience more foot traffic. The bathrooms and showers at most campgrounds are regularly maintained but vary in quality, with Sprague Brook's facilities described as functional but sometimes buggy.

Dogs must remain leashed at all North Boston area campgrounds, with most requiring standard 6-foot leashes and proof of current rabies vaccination. Several hiking trails at East Otto State Forest accommodate dogs on leashes, offering moderate terrain suitable for most breeds and fitness levels. Families camping with dogs appreciate Sprague Brook's multiple playgrounds for children and fishing pond, though swimming is prohibited for both humans and pets. During summer months, early morning and evening walks are recommended to avoid hot ground surfaces that can damage paw pads. Most campgrounds have designated pet relief areas, but campers should bring waste bags as these supplies are inconsistently available. Sites at East Otto become particularly muddy after rain, requiring proper footwear for both humans and pets when exploring the grounds. Seasonal campers frequently travel the loops via golf cart at Colden Lakes, so pet owners should maintain awareness when walking dogs along roadways.

      Westfield-Lake Erie KOA

      1st stop across country

This campground is very clean on the smaller side but very nice. There is highway noise but in your camper you really can’t here it. Beautiful temp and lots of things for the kids to do. Pool, playground, game room. They do have a dog park if you bring your pups. Overall very nice. I would come back.

      Westfield-Lake Erie KOA

      Overnighter

We only stayed for an overnighter on a long trip west. The restrooms and showers are some of the best we’ve seen during our trip. Very well maintained facilities and grounds and the staff are friendly and helpful. We were able to change our site for one that was more level without a problem. The only thing that might bother some people is the road noise. However we were able to sleep well despite it. There is also a dog “park”/fenced area.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Letchworth State Park, NY

Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and is located in Mt. Morris New York. My husband and I visited regularly when we lived near Rochester, NY. The park is stunning and is fit for camping whether you’re in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types. Make sure you bring your camera as the views are all photo worthy. The camping price is right due to the fact that the park is run by the state. A great place to stay especially in the Summer!!

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      30+ years of great memories!

We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.

      Shamrock Pines Campground

      Clean and friendly

Called up on Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend and they accommodated us for two nights.  John and his staff were friendly and welcoming.  Very clean campground with mostly seasonal sites.  Several overnight sites with electric and water.  These sites were mostly gravel and cut into a bank so that there is some separation.  Surrounded by trees but grounds are well kept.  Fully fenced dog park that was great for our pup.  A couple of ponds for kids to fish and what looks like a nice pool.  Quiet hours observed.  On Saturday night there was a band in an outdoor stage that was great.

Close enough to Ellicottville to enjoy the shops, brewery and restaurants there.

Only thing I would mention is the dump station is simply just a pipe off one of the driveways with a water hose.  Not a problem and it works, just not typical of dump stations.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Good weekend campsite

Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.

The region sits within the northern reaches of the Allegheny Plateau, with elevations between 1,000-1,800 feet creating varied terrain for outdoor recreation. Creek exploration: Sprague Brook Park features a creek running through the state park where kids can safely wade and splash. According to Adam R., "the campground is full of hiking trails and areas to fish on multiple ponds the sites are your average size and are kept clean. The park is open year around and even has shelters to rent for winter."

Winter recreation: Sprague Brook Park transforms during colder months into a winter sports destination. "They is a sledding hill and cross country skiing paths to use. I always have a great time here it is quiet and helps you get away to nature," notes Adam R. Winter camping is possible with proper equipment at designated shelters.

Paddleboat rentals: Colden Lakes Resort offers paddleboat rentals for exploring their four small lakes. M R. mentions this pet-friendly campground has "paddleboats, bar and restaurant. Great place." The lakes provide calm waters suitable for beginners and children.

Beach access: Evangola State Park features beachfront camping near Lake Erie. Sara S. notes, "It was very cool that you could hear the waves at night." The beach provides day use for campers but requires water shoes as "the rocks stick up and are sharp in spots," according to Trina W.

    What campers like

Multiple playgrounds: Parents appreciate the numerous play areas at Sprague Brook Park. Amanda K. confirms, "There is a playground for the kiddos and a pond to fish in. No swimming in it though. There is a creek that runs through the state park which was nice for the kids to splash around in."

Proximity to attractions: For visitors wanting to combine camping with sightseeing, HTR Niagara Campground (formerly Branches of Niagara) offers convenient access to Niagara Falls. As Laura D. explains, "25 years ago we came to Niagara Falls so here we are once again to celebrate. Could have not found a better place to stay!"

Secluded primitive sites: East Otto State Forest provides completely free primitive camping with adequate distance between designated spots. One camper, Aidan C., describes it as "so nice to have a place where you don't fear law enforcement knocking at your car/tent, and it's FREE! There are 14 designated spots and I am unsure of the popularity of this place but it's a Friday night and there were multiple open stops rolling in at 8 PM."

Memorial features: Several campgrounds include historical or memorial features. Rebecca B. notes about Sprague Brook Park: "I absolutely love the memorial park." These quiet areas provide contemplative spaces within busier campgrounds.

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: While many campgrounds near North Boston advertise connectivity, coverage varies significantly. At East Otto State Forest, Courtney C. shares, "it said there would be verizon cell service, there was absolutely nothin." Always download maps before arrival.

Reservation windows: Popular dog friendly campgrounds near North Boston fill quickly, especially on holiday weekends. Marilyn C. notes about Sprague Brook Park: "One small complaint is checkin and out times not enforced. Checkin states 3 pm but we saw many checking in as early as 8 or 9 AM. We could have gained a whole day!"

Weather considerations: Sites in East Otto State Forest become particularly challenging after precipitation. Lizzy K. warns, "Maybe non rainy season is better for this site, my boots became very muddy." Similarly, at Sprague Brook Park, Marilyn C. noted "Lots of very wet, muddy sites where even mulch would have helped."

Bathroom quality variations: Evangola State Park Campground has inconsistent bathroom maintenance. Sue H. reported during a recent stay: "this year the restrooms were disgusting!!!. We were here for 3 nights and the same washcloths were on the floor all weekend. Sinks and counter never cleaned, mouse feces were everywhere."

    Tips for camping with families

Multiple campground loops: James K. highlights that the different camping areas at Sprague Brook Park serve distinct family needs: "the lower loop you can see small children ride around the loop and watch them gain their independence but still have a eye one them friendly atmosphere of all the campers."

At HTR Niagara Campground, Erin H. explains they offer "a pretty large pond with a picnic island in the middle and a beach. Spacious sites for play: When camping with children and dogs, site selection matters. At Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday, Melissa N. states: "My child had a blast. the tent site wasn't private or fancy but the rest of the facility was great. staff super nice. we arrived in middle of night and paid the next morning."

Activity considerations: For families with both kids and pets, selecting campgrounds with organized activities reduces planning stress. HTR Niagara includes "nightly Hayrides around the grounds, and rentals for various boats available. Adult and kid zip lines," according to Erin H.

    Tips from RVers

Electric service variations: RVers should note the electrical service differences between campgrounds. Kim D. explains that Evangola State Park "has three loops. One has 30 amp power, one has 50 amp power (with a 30 amp outlet on the same pedestal) and the third loop is for tent camping."

Filling procedures: Water access points vary at pet-friendly campgrounds. At Evangola, Kim D. advises: "There are several places to get water in the camp, so be sure to fill up your tanks before you park. There is a dump station. None of the sites are full hook up."

Site surface conditions: For dog owners with RVs, campground surface materials affect both vehicle leveling and pet comfort.
