Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    lakeside camping

We our family of 5 tent camped on site 155 & 157. The sites were right next to the bathrooms/showers/laundry. The bathrooms were very clean. The showers had 2 separate privacy shower curtains and a bench to put your things in the shower stall. It was 2.25 to wash clothes. There were 2 water fountains outside the bath house. The sites were very quiet and shaded. It was short driving distance to Niagara Falls and our NY state park pass got us free parking at Niagara Falls State Park during our stay. We watched the sun set on Lake Ontario. It was a beautiful place to stay!

    Horrible Customer Service

I would like to start off by saying this was our first time visiting the Medina Wildwood Koa and unfortunately it will have to be our last. Our camp ground it’s self was great. Lots of space, a picnic bench, a fire pit, a grill and even a lake you can fish/rent boats to go on right behind us!

There were many different ways to keep busy and have fun. We were able to float in tubes at the creek, go swimming, rent a peddle boat, play at the playground, rent a golf cart, and jump on a big jumping pillow. And I must say the bathrooms were pristine and air conditioned! Loved that!!

The major problem with this campground is the very rude people. Not only was the customer service absolutely horrible and spoke to not only adults but also children in a very rude harsh way making us ALL feel incompetent/uneducated but the regulars at this campground are just as rude and disrespectful. How can you ever feel welcome or want to come back to a campground with staff saying things like: “You must not know how to read” and clearing there throats very loudly with their arms crossed before telling us other things we may have been doing wrong very sarcastically.

I do admit that we did do some things the wrong way and as soon as we found out or saw on our own we corrected them. It’s just not something I would ever want to endure again especially since my kids feelings were hurt the most and this was ment for them to have fun.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Nice but not great

The facilities in the campground are very good (relatively new bath house with nice clean showers). The campsites are a good size although most have no natural shade or privacy. My only real complaint is that this seemed like a "party park" with music playing and people being loud after quiet hours. In addition, the beach area had a lot of trash laying around.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Unexpected Surroundings

In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!

Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.

The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.

The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.

But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Amazing state park, crappy campground

The state park is breathtaking. The campground is horrendous. The restrooms were disgusting. The site barely fit our one tent (8man Coleman) even though it was advertised as a two tent site. The camp fire ring had no solid base- it just sat on the grass and fires would not stay lit. The quiet hours were not enforced. Yelling and loud music kept us up until ridiculous hours. I would not rate this as family friendly.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Guide to North Boston

Lake Erie's shoreline serves as a natural recreation area for seasonal camping near North Boston, New York. This region features a mix of state parks and private campgrounds operating primarily from May through October. Winter temperatures often drop below freezing with lake effect snow common, making most camping options unavailable during winter months.

What to do

Hiking trails: Darien Lakes State Park Campground offers several miles of trails for day hiking. "There are miles of hiking trails, nice 'lakes' to fish and swim in. There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well," notes Jeremy H., who appreciates the park's peaceful atmosphere.

Disc golf: The course at Darien Lakes provides an alternative outdoor activity for campers seeking recreation beyond traditional hiking and swimming. The relatively flat terrain makes this accessible for beginners while still offering challenges for experienced players.

Fishing ponds: Branches of Niagara Campground features a large pond with multiple fishing spots. According to one visitor, "There's a pretty large pond with a picnic island in the middle and a beach." Fish species include bass and panfish, with no license required for registered campers.

Water activities: Multiple campgrounds offer swimming options beyond Lake Erie. "They have every amenity you could need and the grounds are pristine. Our favorites were the 3 pools and brand new playground," says L.W. about the family-friendly facilities at Branches of Niagara.

What campers like

Lakefront views: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground provides exceptional sunset watching over Lake Ontario. "The sunsets you'll catch on Lake Ontario are some of the best you'll see. You can't swim off the ledges, but this place is worth it," shares Laura Nicole A. about this budget-friendly option.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the quality of bathhouses at several parks. "The bathhouse in the 200 loop with bathrooms and showers are up-to-date and SUPER CLEAN," reports Paula about Four Mile Creek State Park, though she notes there's "no dishwashing station in this loop, so bring your own system."

Proximity to attractions: Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday serves as a convenient base for regional exploration. "Very convenient. Nice campground with many amenities. Typical KOA. You can schedule tours of the falls in the office. Tour bus stops at office," explains Mike H., highlighting the logistical advantages.

Spacious campsites: Many campgrounds provide adequate room between sites. "We had a back in spot but tons of room on our site. All of the sites were roomy," reports Glynnis A. about her stay at Branches of Niagara, noting it was "easy to maneuver our large 5th wheel around."

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in this region operate from May through October with limited shoulder season facilities. "We were there on a weekday, told weekends are busy," mentions Carol B. about Letchworth State Park Campground, indicating significant differences in crowd levels.

Pool restrictions: Some campgrounds enforce specific pool rules that may impact families. At Beaver Meadow, one camper noted a "ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids" where "there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck," causing frustration when only one parent was available.

Campground noise levels: Privacy and noise concerns vary significantly between locations. "This used to be a nice family oriented campground. Note to partiers, we were asked several times to keep it down," reports Erica L. about her Father's Day weekend at Beaver Meadow, indicating staff enforcement of quiet hours.

Reservation requirements: Advanced booking is essential during peak summer months. Many campgrounds reach full capacity, particularly on holiday weekends and during special events.

Tips for camping with families

Child-friendly amenities: Jellystone Park of Western New York focuses extensively on children's activities. "This place is great for a family. Water park, fishing, kayaking, swimming. It has it all. We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids," shares Matthew M.

Halloween weekends: Seasonal themed events provide additional entertainment. "Their Halloween weekends are full of fun and fright!" explains Amy T. about Jellystone Park, which offers trick-or-treating, costume contests, and site decorating competitions during fall weekends.

Playground options: Multiple campgrounds feature updated play equipment. "They have a fairly large pond with a picnic island in the middle and a beach. Playground, mini golf, weekly free activities ranging from root beer float night to a traveling Birds of Prey show!" describes Erin H. about the diverse entertainment at Branches of Niagara.

Swimming alternatives: When Lake Erie conditions aren't suitable, look to campgrounds with pools. "They have three pools but close really early," notes Adam R. about KOA Grand Island, providing an important timing consideration for families planning afternoon activities.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground offers full-service sites for extended stays. "Great campground, they have it all, a huge lake to swim in, a salt water pool, fitness center, well stocked store, small restaurant with finger foods. If you camp in a 40ft motor home, travel trailer, 5th wheel, or tent they have a place for everyone," shares Frank N.

Site leveling: Most campgrounds provide relatively level sites, though some preparation may be needed. "Showers clean and warm. Staff helpful and friendly," notes SkipperAllen C. about Four Mile Creek, indicating the general quality of facilities.

Road conditions: Interior campground roads vary in quality and width. "Roads are not paved making it difficult for kids riding bikes," explains Amanda K. about Beaver Meadow, highlighting a practical consideration for families bringing bicycles.

Access to maintenance: Some campgrounds provide assistance with RV issues. "We needed help with our water heater in our own RV and the camp team sent over a mechanic to sort it out within minutes. Free of charge," reports lionel O. about Six Flags Darien Lake, demonstrating the supportive service available.
