    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The Catskill region surrounding Bloomingburg, New York features multiple established campgrounds that accommodate various camping styles. Jellystone Park in Gardiner, Oakland Valley Campground in Cuddebackville, and Neversink River Resort provide options for tent camping, RV hookups, and cabin rentals. Most facilities within a 30-mile radius offer amenities like showers, drinking water, and fire rings, with several including electrical hookups. Winding Hills Park and Korns Campgrounds provide alternatives with different pricing structures and amenity levels for those seeking developed camping experiences.

Campground availability generally runs from April through October, with peak season falling between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. "Weekend around the lake is more like a park with day-trippers, as opposed to serene wilderness/lakeside camping," noted one visitor about the region's water-adjacent camping areas. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer months when New York City residents seek weekend getaways. Weather conditions vary by elevation, with higher areas experiencing cooler temperatures even during summer. Several campgrounds enforce quiet hours and have specific regulations regarding alcohol consumption, generator use, and pet policies. Cell service is limited or non-existent at many locations, particularly those in more remote settings.

Campers consistently highlight the scenic water features near many established campgrounds. Several reviewers mentioned enjoying kayaking and swimming opportunities at locations like North-South Lake Campground, where "sites are tucked away in the trees for privacy." The region's campgrounds vary significantly in terms of site spacing and privacy levels. Some offer secluded, wooded settings while others feature more open arrangements. Wildlife sightings, including bears, deer, and various bird species, are commonly reported by campers. Family-friendly amenities such as playgrounds, hiking trails, and fishing opportunities appear in many reviews as positive aspects of the camping experience. Proximity to natural attractions in the Catskill Mountains provides additional recreational options beyond the immediate campground facilities.

      Rip Van Winkle Campgrounds

      Owners are rude

      Rip Van Winkle Campground

      Catskills NY

      The Good:

      1. The location

      2. The actual campground itself. There are roomy sites with trees.

      The Bad:

      1. If you are lucky enough to get an assigned campsite away from the busy road, it is a HALF MILE walk to the only showers in the ENTIRE campground. They have nearly 200 campsites and ONE set of showers.

      2. The speed bumps are beyond ridiculous. Two humpers and high as Bob Marley.

      3. If you call the office for help (our electrical post was out) they record you without your knowledge.

      The Ugly:

      1. The campground lost power on my electrical post and tried to blame ME for it. I own a Bulldog surge protector, yeah, so it wasn't me. How it was handled was unbelievable. I have never been treated so rudely. A simple apology would have gone a long way.

Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park

      Bare bones

No hookups. It was wooded, quiet and dark at night. I used the dump station on my way out. The first time I ever saw a poop fountain. The sewer opening sticks up above ground level. The cover swivels away, so I couldn't put it on top of my hose. And then, when I tried to rinse it, there was nowhere for it to go, because the inlet is elevated.

      Kittatinny Campground

      AWFUL

We reserved for a day. Very bad service. The river is super dirty and they did not even clean the trash cans. Besides, the fire ring has no grill cooking grate, so if you don’t bring your own NO GRILLING. Ryan was the person in front that took care of us, he was rude, my kids felt weird because he was not welcoming at all. Also, we try to ask for a partial refund since we did not felt comfortable since the beginning, and they said NO. We have experience camping, but this one was simply THE WORST. We lost the money but we won’t put our kids in a difficult situation. Thanks.

      Jellystone Park™ Gardiner

      Overall good stay

We stay at a lot of Jellystone parks so have become accustomed to the park layouts and activities. This one was well maintained with clean facilities. Some things like the mini golf and fire pits needed maintenance. The pools were nice but get very busy later in the day. The sites up on the hills are nice but beware, it’s a hill! There is little to no WiFi or cell service or it gets easily bogged down, so be ready for that. Food was basic but good. Some activities like bingo were a bit chaotic and there were a lot of ground hornets around the jumping pillows. Would totally go again.

Camp Mohican Outdoor Center — Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

      Great lodging options and trails!

I've visited the MOC a bunch of times, and have taken training classes here also. There are campsites for tent camping, cabin stays where you can rent a whole cabin or rent a bunk in a cabin with others. There is a store as well as food options. It's a great place to visit whether you grab a meal, a bunk, or just take a hike. The Appalachian Trail crosses through here also.

Deerfield Campground — Promised Land State Park

      Nice for a quick stopover

Stayed for a quick weekday overnight at a primitive site—fine spot overall. Pros: Restrooms and showers clean and in working order. Pet-friendly. Nice surroundings (though nothing extraordinary). Easy access with a sedan. Cons: most sites are very close to one another with little privacy. Fair amount of road noise. Quiet hours didn’t seem to be enforced—some folks playing music until midnight.

      Happy Days Campground

      Excellent campsite

We were looking for a campsite on our way up north and we’re so happy to find this one. While it is a commercial site. It is located in the woods. It has full hook up and portable water at the site. We couldn’t be happier with a warm welcome we received late at night and the cleanliness of the bathrooms and each site. I would highly recommend this campsite.

      Mills Norrie State Park Campground

      4.7 stars

Excellent campground! The forest is beautiful, the Hudson River is super close, there are great trails, and the surrounding area is beautiful. Sites are electric only, so make sure your water pump is working and fresh water tank is full. There are spigots for filling and a nice dump station. The player is excellent. I don't think tetn camping here would be great because the tent sites are closer together and there are trains that pass regularly. We couldn't hear the trains in our camper and our site was large and private with great Forest and hammock trees. The mansion tours at Vanderbilt and Mills were awesome!

    Guide to Bloomingburg

Camping sites near Bloomingburg, New York vary from family-oriented resorts to more secluded woodland settings within the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The terrain features elevations ranging from 400 to 1,800 feet, creating varied camping environments from riverside locations to more elevated forested settings. Most campgrounds in the region maintain distinct seasonal operations with many smaller operations closing entirely between November and April due to freezing temperatures.

    What to do

Water activities on the Neversink River: Oakland Valley Campground offers direct river access for fishing and wading. "We spent most of early spring at Oakland Valley right on the river. Even though covid really forced a shutdown on activities, this one was of my kids favorite places of the year. They loved to fish and play in the river, explore the woods and ride bikes around," notes one visitor.

Hiking at Winding Hills Park: Explore maintained trails around the lake at Winding Hills Park. "The trails to walk on are perfect to get out of the campsite for a few hours," according to a recent camper. The park features woodland paths suitable for various skill levels with benches positioned around the lake.

Recreational facilities at Jellystone: Jellystone Park Gardiner offers extensive recreation options including laser tag and water features. "Nice pool that is shallow so you can relax and let the little ones go in the water park section alone or they have a 3 ft pool also. My older kids preferred a deeper pool but they still had a great time there they have lasertag which they enjoy. And a bounce pillow," describes one family's experience.

    What campers like

Private riverside sites: Several campgrounds near Bloomingburg offer camping directly adjacent to flowing water. At Korns Campgrounds, "Site 90 was real nice. Fairly secluded and Surrounded by a stream. Electrical and water on every site was a bonus," according to a recent visitor.

Quiet mid-week stays: Camping areas are typically less crowded Monday through Thursday. "We were there in late October, towards the end of the season, and there were only a few other campers there, and it was a weekend! So nice to have the whole place feel so quiet and desolate," reports a camper at Winding Hills Park.

Shaded woodland settings: Many sites offer natural tree cover, providing relief during summer heat. At Boulder Point Campground, campers appreciate the natural surroundings: "This property has several sites for you to setup your tent, camper, van, or RV (only small tow behinds or popups, no large RVs)." Sites with more tree coverage typically fill first during reservation periods.

    What you should know

Bathroom facilities vary significantly: Condition and availability of bathroom facilities differ widely between campgrounds. At Kittatinny Campground, "The bathrooms are spaced out. No running water except for pump founded outside of the bathrooms. Toilets are pump flushed. Showers are only located INSIDE High Point State Park, not throughout the campsites."

Site spacing and noise considerations: Proximity between sites affects privacy and noise levels. One camper noted about Jellystone Park Gardiner: "This is a very nice campground for families. Has a lot of activities and facilities for campers. It is a bit more open and campsite can be a bit close to each other. But the place was very clean a friendly."
