Most RV parks in the area allow pets but enforce leash requirements and designated pet areas. Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

Guide to Mendham

Camping near Mendham, New Jersey places visitors within Morris County's hilly terrain where elevations range between 500-1,000 feet. Most RV campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from April through October, with a few remaining open year-round. Winter campers should note that nighttime temperatures regularly drop below freezing from December through February.

What to do

Hiking trails access: At Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, visitors can enjoy numerous hiking paths directly from the campground. "There are plenty of trails, water (creeks, pond, lake) views and even if the place is packed there is PLENTY of room," notes a camper. Another visitor mentions they "always hike to the lake here, it's a very easy hike and also very peaceful."

NYC sightseeing: Just 17 miles from Manhattan, Liberty Harbor RV Park serves as a strategic base for city exploration. "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away, and the path that can take you to WTC or 33rd Street area is only a mile away," explains one camper. The park also offers views of the Statue of Liberty.

Animal encounters: Families particularly enjoy feeding farm animals at several campgrounds. "The farm has goats, a donkey, and a pony within the campground. Very cool," reports a visitor to Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort. Children can typically feed these animals during daylight hours with feed available for purchase at camp stores.

What campers like

Spacious woodland sites: The wooded campsites at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation receive consistent praise. "The campsites are paved and mostly level. They are wooded and large," writes one reviewer. Another camper notes, "Sites are easily the nicest—all the way in the back with only one neighbor. It is so quiet here."

Convenient city access: Urban convenience makes Tri-State RV Park popular despite its proximity to highways. "Easy on, easy off. Lots of pull through sites. Next to grocery store. CLEAN bathrooms, showers, laundry. Super nice owners. Perfect for an overnight stop," reports one visitor. The location allows quick access to shopping and supplies.

Modern infrastructure: Campers appreciate updated facilities at Mountain Top RV Park, where "newly upgraded camp infrastructure elevated the stay, providing amenities for comfort and entertainment." The same reviewer noted, "The investment in new 50amp wiring, upgraded sewer systems, and newer water lines provided convenient camping experience."

What you should know

Highway noise impacts: Some campgrounds close to major roadways experience significant traffic noise. At Tri-State RV Park, one camper reported, "Located just off the highway so lots of vehicle noise 24/7." Another noted they were "Very disappointed with how close it was to the interstate (you could actually feel the heavier trucks go by)."

Varying cellular coverage: Mobile service fluctuates throughout the region's hilly landscape. At Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South, a camper observed, "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity." Many campgrounds have spotty coverage in wooded areas.

Limited tent camping options: Several RV parks near Mendham don't accommodate tent campers or offer very limited tent sites. At Liberty Harbor RV Park, a visitor noted, "There is only a small place for tents. Mostly people go there with campers."

Tips for camping with families

Scout playground facilities: Family-oriented campgrounds often provide play areas appropriate for different age ranges. At Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort, "There is a small playground, a mini golf, and a large dog walk," though some visitors note limited supervision of resident children who "run free all day and past curfew in the evenings."

Check activity schedules: Weekend programming varies significantly by season. "There were some organized activities which was nice, not as much as a Jellystone Park," reports a Pleasant Acres visitor. Most campgrounds near Mendham post activity calendars online or at check-in.

Consider bathroom accessibility: At some campgrounds, facilities may be distant from campsites. One camper at Pleasant Acres noted, "The office, playground, dog park, pool, laundry are located at the top of the hill. Camping spots are downhill, a good distance from the office and amenities." Families with young children should request sites near restrooms.

Tips from RVers

Navigate size restrictions: Several rv campgrounds near Mendham, New Jersey accommodate larger rigs, but access roads can present challenges. At Pleasant Acres, "When you leave you have to drive the wrong way in the campground because of the low hanging trees the correct direction."

Waste disposal planning: Trash management differs between facilities. One camper at Pleasant Acres noted, "Trash is located off site in a pullout on the road you drive in on," while another mentioned, "No garbage anywhere near the RV sites!" and "without a golf cart (which they had none to offer) or a car, you're stuck."

City access planning: RVers visiting NWS Earle RV Park appreciate its strategic location, as "It's only an hour from Manhattan & 20 more minutes from the shore." Those driving larger rigs to Liberty Harbor should "Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze."
