Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hopatcong, NJ

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Mahlon Dickerson Reservation near Jefferson Township provides 50 amp electrical and water hookups for RV campers seeking a wooded experience. Most RV sites at this Morris County park feature level paved motorhome pads ranging from 25-40 feet in length. Mountain Top RV Park accommodates larger rigs with full hookup sites including sewer connections, while Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort maintains seasonal operation from April through October with spacious pull-through rv pads for big rigs. Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North and South campgrounds, located within 30 miles of Hopatcong, offer full-service RV sites with 50-amp service during their May to October season. "Easy to navigate our 38 ft. RV. Easy to dump and fill. Peaceful. Close to train to N.Y. City," noted one visitor about Mahlon Dickerson.

Navigation into several mountain parks requires careful driving due to narrow access roads with tight turns. During peak summer weekends, many RV parks reach full capacity, making advance reservations essential. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with visitors reporting spotty coverage at some locations - particularly at Panther Lake where Verizon users experienced limited connectivity. Though most RV parks provide dump stations, not all offer on-site sewer hookups at individual sites. The sites in the Hopatcong area generally allow pets, though restrictions may apply at certain facilities. A review mentioned that "the sites are nicely shaded" with "dump stations near the bath houses," but cautioned that "the RV sites for a bigger camper are tight squeezes" with many requiring careful maneuvering.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Tohickon Family Campground

    Great But...

Its a great campGround But There are some cons. Don't come if your in a tent And It Has Been ior will rain, It Becomes Flooded or turns into A mudPit. All The Private or Good spots are usually taken By seasonals But the other spots are decent if you Have A Big rig it can Be A little squish.

Pros Great People beautiful surroundings Nice Bathrooms Quiet and Peaceful Accessible Nice Pool Every store U could Need is in about 15 mins Away Not Alot of Stupid rules just Be respectful Pet friendly

I Been coming Here for years Never Had A Bad Time.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

    Tobyhanna State Park Campground

    Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

    Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

Guide to Hopatcong

RV camping options near Hopatcong, New Jersey range from rustic woodland settings to convenient transit-oriented facilities. Located in the northwestern highlands region at elevations between 900-1,100 feet, this area experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F. Winter camping remains available at select locations despite seasonal closures at many RV parks from November through April.

What to do

Hiking access: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers extensive trail systems directly from the campground. "There are plenty of trails, water (creeks, pond, lake) views and even if the place is packed there is PLENTY of room," notes one visitor about the Mahlon Dickerson Reservation.

City excursions: Camp near public transportation for NYC trips without parking hassles. "Short drive to Liberty Park where we got out and walked at night to admire the city skyline and Statue of Liberty at night," reports a camper at Liberty Harbor RV Park, which provides direct ferry access to Manhattan.

Animal interactions: Several campgrounds feature farm animals for children to interact with. "The farm has goats, a donkey, and a pony within the campground. Very cool," shares a visitor to Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort.

What campers like

Off-season availability: Some campgrounds remain open year-round for winter camping. "Open during the winter. Easy on, easy off. Lots of pull through sites. Next to grocery store. CLEAN bathrooms, showers, laundry," reports a winter camper at Tri-State RV Park.

Recreation facilities: Many parks have added new amenities beyond standard hookups. "The family-friendly atmosphere was evident through the thoughtfully designed property, including an updated pool, playground, game room, and a brand-new pickleball court that added a unique touch to the stay," notes a visitor to Mountain Top RV Park.

Privacy options: Wooded sites provide seclusion at select campgrounds. "We were able to find a site that was out of the way and felt like we were the only ones there. Nice trails leading out our door," comments a camper at Thousand Trails Timothy Lake North.

What you should know

Infrastructure quality varies: Campgrounds in the region show significant differences in maintenance levels. "The investment in new 50amp wiring, upgraded sewer systems, and newer water lines provided convenient camping experience," mentions a visitor at Mountain Top RV Park.

Winter water precautions: Some parks with year-round operation have high water pressure. "Best water pressure I have seen on the east coast, unregulated it's over 80 psi," cautions a camper at Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South, suggesting visitors bring pressure regulators.

Cell service limitations: Coverage varies widely between providers at campgrounds near Hopatcong. "Cell service is ok. Verizon is 25 down 10 up. Tmobile is unusable," notes a Timothy Lake South visitor, highlighting the importance of checking carrier coverage before arrival.

Tips for camping with families

Animal attractions: Farm-based campgrounds offer unique experiences for children. "My daughter loved the horses and goats," shares a visitor to Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort, which maintains farm animals on-site for campers to observe and feed.

Activity planning: Organized events vary by season and campground. "Playground, hayride, animals to feed (goats, chickens, donkey and pony). There were some organized activities which was nice, not as much as a Jellystone Park," explains a Pleasant Acres visitor.

Garbage disposal logistics: Some campgrounds require campers to transport their own trash. "The garbage situation was the worst. Most campsites have a service, they tell you to leave it at a specific location by a certain time or they have many garbage cans throughout. This place had their garbage and recycling very far away," warns a camper about Pleasant Acres.

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Access roads to several rv parks near Hopatcong require careful driving. "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze," advises an RVer at Skyline RV Camp - Waterfront.

Campsite selection strategy: When booking, consider specific site locations for optimal experience. "I couldn't find a map prior to my booking but would suggest requesting the highest number site available for best direct views," recommends a visitor to Skyline RV Camp.

Water management: Varying hookup distances require planning. "Water hookups at long distances but they have hose reels to help with that. Our site (15) said 75' however the 50' hose reel made it to our rv connection," explains a Mahlon Dickerson visitor.
