## Overview

Ford Cabin offers a cozy, rustic getaway along the appropriately named Wild and Scenic North Fork of the Flathead River. It is about 45 miles north of Columbia Falls, in northwestern Montana. Visitors enjoy a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, viewing wildlife and exploring the area's many trails.   
  
The cabin is available from May 25 to March 15. It can be access by vehicle, however four-wheel drive and chains are recommended during the winter. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.

## Recreation

Rainbow and cutthroat trout fishing is pleasant. In fact, the Flathead River is renowned for its excellent fly fishing. Visitors can hike and mountain bike on various trails and roads, or float in the river from the Canadian border to Polebridge on Class I to II rapids.

## Facilities

The rustic log cabin has a small, covered front porch and a vault toilet nearby. It is equipped with a propane stove, lights, a heater and limited cooking and eating utensils. Furnishings include two bunk beds and one double bed, to accommodate up to six people.   
  
Water from a hand-pump system, is only available from April to November. In winter, visitors must bring their own water. Other items to bring include food, bedding, flashlights, a first aid kit and other basic camping gear. ## Natural Features

The cabin is perched on a grassy field beside a stand of pine trees and near the North Fork of the Flathead River and Tepee Creek.   
  
The surrounding Glacier View Ranger District is bordered on the east by the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and Glacier National Park. To the north is Canada and west is the Kootenai National Forest. A variety of wildlife live in the area, including elk, moose and bears. 

## Nearby Attractions

Polebridge Mercantile offers limited supplies, and is about a half-hour's drive from the cabin.

Inside North Fork Road is long, narrow, and winding dirt road to the campground. RVs and truck and trailer combinations are not recommended.

From the foot of Quartz Lake in Glacier National Park, this vantage point provides a great view of several peaks of the remote Livingston Range, such as Logging Mountain (right) and Vulture Peak (left).  This beach in the photo above is a great place to enjoy a nice lunch while you take in the view.

Quartz Lake, Glacier National ParkOnce the trail descends nearly 950 vertical feet during your Glacier National Park hiking adventure, you will find yourself at the foot of Quartz Lake.  The view of remote peaks of the Livingston Range that are looming at the head of this long lake are stunning, and will prompt you to get your camera out.  Some of the more prominent peaks are Logging Mountain, Vulture Peak and Cerulean Ridge.  Vulture Peak is a major peak within the Livingston Range that is extremely remote and seldom visited or climbed.  This huge peak is home to two glaciers, and can be seen from the Granite Park Chalet and Highline Trail from the east. The beach at the foot of Quartz Lake is a great place to rest and enjoy a lunch as you take in the beauty of this amazing landscape...

Next to the foot of Quartz Lake is the Quartz Lake Campground.  This back country campground is for those hikers who chose to make the Quartz Lake Loop Trail an overnight, multi-day experience.

A water filter is required to get water from the lake.

## Overview

Big Creek Campground lies in the expansive Flathead National Forest in northwestern Montana, 2 miles south of the Northwest entrance to Glacier National Park. Visitors can enjoy access to the Flathead River as well as the countless other recreational opportunities provided by the surrounding forests.

Big Creek Campground has 22 campsites, 12 of which are reservable and 10 are walk-up, first come, first serve sites. 

The stay limit is 16 consecutive nights.

## Recreation

Visitors enjoy the ample fishing and floating opportunities provided by the river. Trout are a popular catch amid the calm flow of the water. Boating is also an excellent pastime, as the river is perfect for floating, rafting and canoeing.   
  
Across from the campground is the Glacier Institute's Big Creek Outdoor Education Center, which provides learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. Programs offered include seminars and guided hikes, which point out the diverse natural and cultural resources of the Glacier National Park and the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem.

## Facilities

The campground offers several accessible individual campsites for tent and RV camping. Each has convenient access to the river and is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills.   
  
A group camping area is nestled in the middle of the campground and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Campfire circles and group picnic areas are also available.

Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. The water is in 2 locations and are hand pumps. They are not for filling your RV so please come with your water full.

## Natural Features

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, west of the continental divide and just south of the Canadian border, lies the 2.4 million acre Flathead National Forest.   
  
Home to lynx, grizzly bear, and bull trout and with numerous lakes, streams, and rivers to enjoy, the forest is a premiere destination for visitors.   
  
The campground sits along the North Fork of the Flathead River, which begins in Canada and joins a couple other forks before depositing into Flathead Lake. It is a forested area of mature pine and fir trees that provide a sparse understory at an elevation of 3,300 feet.

Big Creek Campground is just 2 miles from the Camas Creek entrance to the Glacier National Park. Columbia Falls, along the North Fork of the Flathead River, is located 19 miles south of the campground.

## Charges & Cancellations

Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival will be "considered" for a refund, by the concessionaire, of Camping fees only and will automatically forfeit the first nights fee. Day of Arrival cancellations must be turned in by calling 1-877-444-6777, then followed up with a call to Cheryl at 406-752-PWAI (7924) or 406-404-4164 to get the information to the campground and to be considered for any refund.

The Big Therriault Lake campground is located 12.5 air miles from Fortine. The campground has 10 campsite, including one host site, with tables, fire rings and able to accomodate up to a 32' rv. Amenities include potable water, vault toilets, food storage boxes and boat ramp developed for small boats.
