Best Campgrounds near Richland, MO

Richland, Missouri and the surrounding area features several established campgrounds along the Gasconade River, which offer varied camping experiences ranging from primitive tent sites to full-hookup RV spots. Gasconade Hills Resort provides 54 campground sites with water, electric, and sewer connections alongside cabin accommodations approximately 3 miles from town. Nearby Froggys River Resort offers 35 sites with similar amenities along the riverfront. Both campgrounds cater to tent campers, RV travelers, and those seeking cabin rentals in this central Missouri region where outdoor recreation centers around water activities.

Most campgrounds in the Richland area operate seasonally from April through October, with limited winter availability due to weather conditions and facility maintenance. Gravel roads connect most camping areas, with some sites requiring navigation of steep or uneven terrain to access riverside locations. "The RV spots are really close together so there isn't much room. They have a store and a bath house. Also a playground for the kids," noted one visitor about Ruby's Landing River Resort. Cell service can be intermittent or unavailable at riverside campgrounds, particularly at Gasconade Hills and Froggys. Water levels on the Gasconade River fluctuate seasonally, potentially affecting both water access and primitive camping spots during spring flooding.

Riverside camping experiences consistently receive the highest ratings from visitors, with many reviews highlighting direct water access for fishing, swimming, and paddling. Most developed campgrounds feature basic amenities including shower houses, flush toilets, and electric hookups, though primitive camping is available at Toronto Springs Dispersed area approximately 25 miles northwest of Richland. According to one visitor, "Clean bathrooms, and quiet primitive camping area right next to the river. The water landing is right next to the tent area so it's real easy to get in and out of the water." Campgrounds with cabin rentals typically require advance reservations during summer months and holiday weekends. Visitors note that sites can be close together at many of the established campgrounds, with limited privacy between camping spaces, making off-season visits preferable for those seeking solitude.

    Rustic Trails RV Park

Clean, hot shower but little else

One shower and one bathroom working at the back of the campground. There's more up at the house but I didn't use those facilities. I was less than impressed with this campground. Especially for the price. It looks as though most campers actually live there and they got the shaded spots with plenty of trees. I was directed towards the back which is all gravel and not much else. Good for a quick stay over but there's nicer places close by for half the price.

    B Berry Farms & Co.

    Peaceful sleeping

Driving through Missouri needed a quiet place to stay. We stayed at Honey Berry Hideout, it has metal fire ring and grill. The owners were very friendly , informed us amenities , they have coffee pot , small stove to use in a barn in walking distance, bathrooms and showers for small fees. Family friendly with large area for kids to play.

    Cross Creek RV Park

    DONT STAY HERE

The road to get in and out of this place is absolutely ridiculous. You can try to go 1mph to avoid potholes or washed out area just to hit the next pothole and washed out area. Dont make the mistake we made! Read all the Google reviews (including the 5 star ones which also complain about the road)  i stopped counting after 25.. that explains alot about how much the owners care. The road was so bad we took a loss on the money and stayed elsewhere. Id rather loose out on a few hundred then damage my vehicle getting in and out of this place multiple times during my stay.

    Froggys River Resort

Not as nice as the other options

This "resort" is just a basic campground.  There's no place to dump your camper's tank, which you'd expect at the prices they charge.  The owner is in some sort of a feud with the residents that live around the campground, so now one of them fires a shotgun off every half hour, and another one blasts revelry early in the morning.  Nothing scary, but I didn't like knowing that we were right next to residents...certainly wouldn't want a campground in my back yard.

Otherwise, it's mediocre.  Depending on the time of year, the river can be quite low, so be sure to check the forecast before planning a stay.  It was only about 6 inches deep when I was there.  The Gasconade Hills campground is just down the road and was a much better experience.

    Gasconade Hills Resort

Bad wifi and even worse owners

Drove 4 hours and spent 300 dollars on a cabin. We placed a small Bluetooth speaker in front of our cabin and relaxed with a drink. After playing music for 20 mins the owner storms over and screams at me to turn it down. Its 8 pm and the music isn't turned up I tell him he said it's his place and his prerogative if it's too loud. I asked him to show me where it said I can't play music. He said quiet time is 10 pm. I said it's 8. He told me not to argue with him as if im his kid or his employee or something.  He told me he was going to eject me if I continued to argue. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere the owners respect you. Lots of places who appreciate your business to give this place any business.

    Osage Beach RV Park

Great place, friendly people and beautiful grounds

We stayed overnight here because our dog was sick and this was close to the animal hospital we visited. We wish would have stayed here originally (we stayed the. first night at the state park). While the State Park was nice this campground offered so much more and was closer to town so we could walk to restaurants.

I would definitely stay here again.

    Froggys River Resort

Friendly CG on the gasconade - PORT O POTTYS ONLY

NO PLUMBIN, PORT O JOHNS ONLY

PRIMITIVE CAMPSITE 10 IS BEST FOLLOWED BY 7

Froggys has one flaw, see first sentence.  Other than that its perfect.  The crew is so friendly and you can tell they love running the CG and caring for guests.  They had a fire pit in the middle of the river which was so cool and did a pork steak dinner one of the nights.  The sites along the river are great for primitive camping.  And the six mile float on the gasconade was lovely.  The river moves slow, so if you're used to floating 16 miles on the spring fed Jacks Fork or Current, halfing that will be plenty.  Shower house was clean and efficient.

Guide to Richland

Camping sites near Richland, Missouri concentrate around the Gasconade River, with options ranging from established riverside facilities to primitive woodland sites. Seasonal water level changes affect accessibility, with campsites typically situated on rugged terrain at elevations between 700-1000 feet. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing, making most campgrounds operational primarily from spring through fall.

What to do

Wildlife watching along trails: Lake of the Ozarks State Park offers extensive hiking opportunities with abundant wildlife. "Huge beautiful park. A lot of hiking and biking trails. Boat ramp and store in the park. We saw about 20 deer each day," reports one visitor at Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground.

Spring activities at Bennett Springs: Trout fishing dominates the recreational offerings at Bennett Spring State Park Campground, but options extend beyond angling. "Plenty of trails, fishing, and swimming," notes a camper. The park features "over twenty miles of hiking trails meandering through its 3,216 acres" with terrain ranging from leisurely streamside paths to challenging mountain trails.

Float trips on multiple rivers: The region offers varied floating experiences on both the Gasconade and Big Piney Rivers. "We did a 5 mile float which was the perfect length and very scenic," reports a visitor at Boiling Springs Campground, where you can "float the Piney and Gasconade and float back into your camp!"

What campers like

Riverfront access: Proximity to water consistently ranks as a top feature. At Froggys River Resort, campers appreciate the direct river connection: "I was right next to the river, and the sounds of the water made everything tranquil. There is a ton of space for tents and RVs, and the road in is well paved."

Natural springs: The region features several cold springs that add unique swimming opportunities. Boiling Springs Campground offers "a spring on the opposite side of the river that is fairly easy to swim to that is a thrill to swim through. It's ice cold!"

Quiet off-season camping: Many campers prefer visiting during shoulder seasons. At Toronto Springs Dispersed, approximately 25 miles northwest of Richland, campers enjoy "completely free clean and shaded" primitive sites. Winter camping provides solitude at Bennett Spring, where one visitor noted: "This time wife and I took our small camper just to get away for the weekend. We stayed in campground one because it is the only one open during the off season."

What you should know

Bathroom facilities vary widely: Campground restroom quality ranges from modern facilities to rustic options. At Boiling Springs Campground, one camper noted "bathroom is very small. No showers. One toilet spot not very nice." Gasconade Hills Resort received mixed reviews with "spaces were a little small and crowded. No cell service and very limited wifi."

Limited connectivity: Cell reception is spotty throughout the camping areas, with Gasconade Hills Resort specifically mentioned for having "no cell service and very limited wifi." This affects not just communications but also navigation and emergency services access.

Reservation requirements: During peak season (May-September), advance bookings are essential. Bennett Spring State Park fills quickly: "Reserve early as it fills up fast!" Meanwhile, Toronto Springs offers free primitive camping without reservations for those seeking spontaneous trips.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Several campgrounds provide dedicated facilities for children. "They have a store and a bath house. Also a playground for the kids," notes a visitor about Ruby's Landing River Resort, though they caution the "RV spots are really close together."

Wildlife education opportunities: Families appreciate structured learning activities. Lake of the Ozarks provides numerous wildlife encounters, with one visitor reporting they "saw about 20 deer each day." Bennett Spring State Park offers "guided ranger-led tours are also available for those wanting a little more information on your walk."

Water safety considerations: River and spring swimming areas require parental supervision. The Gasconade River has variable depths and currents depending on recent rainfall. At Froggys River Resort, "the river moves slow," making it more manageable for families with young children compared to faster-flowing sections.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Most established campgrounds offer electric services, but water and sewer connections vary. At Lamplight Lane RV Resort at Glen Oaks, "the only draw back is that the roads and spots are all gravel and can be muddy at times." However, visitors appreciate that "the owners/operators are awesome."

Site leveling challenges: Uneven terrain affects many RV sites in the area. Bennett Spring State Park campers note "our site was kinda tricky to get into, especially if you have a longer trailer. Seemed like quite a few were that way, so do your research."

Winter camping options: Limited campgrounds remain open year-round. Roubidoux Springs Campground provides "full hook up! Flat with gravel pull through" sites with minimal seasonal closures, making it suitable for winter RV camping when most other facilities have closed for the season.
