Cuivre River State Park Campground offers 88 campsites spread across several loops within a forested environment near Troy, Missouri. Located at an elevation of approximately 500 feet, the park experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters, with spring and fall providing the most comfortable camping conditions. The campground's layout features sites that accommodate everything from basic tents to fully-equipped RVs with hookups.
What to do
Water activities at Lincoln Lake: Cuivre River State Park features a lake where visitors can rent kayaks and enjoy time on the water. "This campground has a lake you can rent kayaks for. They also have a small store at the check in booth. It also has an accessible fishing dock that is covered," notes Kayla S. from Cuivre River State Park Campground.
Trail exploration: The park features a system of hiking trails suitable for various skill levels. "This park has plenty of well groomed trails and facilities spread out nicely. You could camp here for a weekend and stay busy," shares Tony M. The trails offer good opportunities for wildlife viewing in their natural habitat.
Mountain biking routes: At Klondike Park, mountain biking enthusiasts can find technical sections designed specifically for biking skills. "One other really cool thing about Klondike is there are several technical mountain bike sections that are located in the park. Bring your mountain bike and have a go!" recommends Megan K. from Klondike Park.
What campers like
Spacious sites: The campsites at Cuivre River offer ample room for setting up camp and relaxing. "Campground is quiet and has big campsites. The campground is close to Lincoln Lake for kayaking," writes Cody S. about his experience at Cuivre River State Park.
Wildlife encounters: The natural setting provides opportunities to observe local wildlife. "Campground is beautiful and very woodsy. We saw bunnies hopping around and when we first arrived to our site a deer was grazing nearby, such a bonus!" reports Maria E. from Cuivre River State Park Campground.
Waterfront views: At Klondike Park, campers appreciate the scenic settings near the water. "The best spots are around #11, where there's a great view of a pond and bluffs, and a nice tree for shade. This is conveniently located off the Katy trail," notes Megan K.
What you should know
Site accessibility: Not all campgrounds offer drive-up access to every site. At Klondike Park, "Campsites are walk in, but a short walk. Some are more private and shaded than others. Our site, 35, like its neighbor sites was small and pretty close to others. Other sites like #19 and 20 were more secluded, offered more trees and privacy," explains Shawn M.
Seasonal facilities: Bathroom and shower facilities may vary by season. "There is a seasonal bathhouse, which is clean and well kept, but serves all 43 campsites with its 3 stalls and 2 showers per gender," notes a camper at Klondike Park.
Weather considerations: Be prepared for typical Missouri weather patterns. "The sites were semi level and adequate for campers but would have been a little rough in a tent. There is plenty of shade and the facilities were updated," explains Chad K. from Graham Cave State Park Campground.
Tips for camping with families
Kid-friendly activities: Several parks in the area offer amenities specifically enjoyable for children. "This is a perfect place to enjoy with the family. Plenty of gorgeous campsites and a lake to swim and kayak!" shares J.K. from Cuivre River State Park.
Educational opportunities: Some parks offer educational experiences. "The highlight of the park is the cave and the hikes around," notes Chad K. about Graham Cave State Park, where children can learn about archaeological history.
Safety precautions: Families should be mindful of wildlife and secure food properly. "Don't leave anything out at night or raccoons will scavenge, we accidentally left our trash bag hanging (ugh!) but that was our fault," warns Maria E. from their stay at Cuivre River.
Tips from RVers
Hookup availability: RV campers should check for appropriate hookups before booking. "The sites for full hook ups are separate from the other sites," explains Kayla S. about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, which offers concrete pads with full hookups.
Site leveling: Some campsites may require leveling equipment. "There were plenty of sites available when we were there. There are a few flat sites but many were not level," advises Laura M. about her experience at Graham Cave State Park.
Pet-friendly options: For those traveling with animals, "Beautiful area next to a man-made lake. Concrete pads with full hookups, as well as dirt pads with full hookups," reports Ernest G. about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, which welcomes pets and offers spaces suitable for RVs with animals.
