What campers like
Natural settings: The wooded areas at Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground provide a peaceful environment. "This beautiful little park, just 4 miles from beautiful white sand beaches, is tucked away from the roads and surrounded by a wonderful mixed forest of hardwood and pines," writes Charles F.
Kid-friendly features: Buccaneer State Park Campground offers recreational amenities for families. "Extra cost for wavepool and slides up front and pool. Lots of trees and shade, paved roads for kids to ride bikes, large playground area, some short hiking trails," says Nicole R.
Wildlife viewing: Campers report seeing various wildlife at camping areas. "My husband and I stayed at Buccaneer at one of their beachfront spots...we looked through the other camp grounds and they have good tree coverage, picnic tables, grills, and full hookups," notes Ashley S.
What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Hurricane season affects coastal campgrounds from June through November. "This park is well maintained and in a great location. Lots of activities for the kids (in season) and plenty to do and see nearby," comments David J. about Buccaneer State Park.
Site spacing: Space between campsites varies significantly. "Beautiful campground, boat launch and water access are nice, but the most crowded park we have been to! You're VERY close to your neighbors and there is little room for parking," writes Brandi L. about McLeod Park.
Insects: Be prepared for bugs, especially during warmer months. "The bugs were crazy bad at the beach in the morning and at dusk. Evidently they are worse this year, so just come prepared!" warns Ashley S. about coastal camping.
Tips for camping with families
Splash pads and playgrounds: Lake LaCroix RV Resort offers water features for children. "We spent time at the natural playground, swimming in the beautiful pool, fishing and bicycling. The pool area is very nice with outdoor furniture, fire pits and loungers," reports Tiffany M.
Biking opportunities: Many campgrounds have paved roads for cycling. "We enjoyed riding our bikes around the campground and the trails in the park. We also, took the trace to town and rode along the lake," shares Gregg G. about Fontainebleau State Park.
Evening activities: Plan for campfires at sites with fire rings. "We will definitely be back to try one of those spots with really nice fire rings that were recessed into the ground," mentions Ashley S. about Buccaneer State Park.
Tips from RVers
Site selection: Check site details carefully before booking. "The road to the site was a bit narrow for our 40' 5th wheel and F450. To our surprise, there was a drainage ditch across from our site that made backing in difficult," warns MickandKarla W.
Hookup availability: Most RV parks near Kiln offer full hookups. "Nearly every site has a level concrete pad and many have full hookups. Lots of trees. There is a nice nature trail and playground," Jeffrey Z. notes about McLeod Park.
Cell service quality: Mobile coverage varies by location and carrier. "Cell service: Verizon service with 2 bars and AT&T one bar sometimes none. We were able to stream the LSU Tigers beat Arkansas on our Verizon hot spot," reports Tiffany M. about camping at McLeod Park.
