Best RV Parks & Resorts near Mora, MN

Several RV parks accommodate motorhome travelers near Mora, Minnesota, with full hookup options available at most locations. Grand Casino RV Resort in Hinckley offers 271 spacious RV sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, accommodating large rigs with 50-amp service. Hidden Bay RV Resort provides waterfront sites on Knife Lake with drinking water and facilities for RVs, though without electric or water hookups at individual sites. Woodsong RV Resort features big-rig friendly sites with electric hookups, water access, and trash service in a gated community setting. Boulder Woods RV Park provides a park-like setting with mature trees, though primarily serves seasonal campers with limited overnight availability. "The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert."

Across the region, most RV parks operate seasonally from May through October, with only Grand Casino RV Resort remaining open year-round. Back-in sites predominate at most parks, often requiring careful maneuvering. According to one reviewer at Grand Casino, "Back-in site was 90 degrees to the road - if the bathhouse parking lot wasn't across from it, wouldn't have been able to swing in on a 24' travel trailer." Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort accommodates larger motorhomes with 143 sites featuring full hookups and both 30-amp and 50-amp service options. Dump stations are available at most parks except Boulder Woods and Hidden Bay. Pet policies vary, with most parks allowing pets but enforcing leash requirements. Water pressure fluctuations have been noted at some locations, so pressure regulators are recommended for RV water systems.

    Pierz Park

Too many kids driving golf carts.

First the negatives. No internet, medium phone signal. The campsites are too small and too crowded. The adults let their young kids drive their cold carts and atvs back and forth from the campground to the beach all day long. I counted one particular one make 34 trips in less than 6 hours. I used to golf and I occasionally used a cart but usually I walked. Kids and young parents are way too lazy now, because it's a small campground and short walk to the beach from the farthest site. I think they do it for 2 reasons, they are bored, and they can. There is only one road in and out so there is constant traffic, and the road is gravel so prepare to eat dust. The sites aren't paved or even gravel, you park on the grass. Now for the positives. Some sites have 50 amp, most just 30 amp or less. Water hookups at most. No full hookups or dump site. There is a beach and swim area on Skunk Creek. A playground by the bathroom and showers. That building is clean, showers are free. Lots of shade from all the trees. Mosquitoes are few, flies plentiful. It is a quiet park after 10pm, but although they say closed after 8pm there was traffic all night long. Ask for a site in the back to avoid headlights shining on you all night long. Rates are $40/night for the pull through site we had w50 amp service. It has a few seasonal sites, all located at the rear. There is a golf course right next door across the creek. That is where the office is located. The town is small, only a gas station and small grocery store, so bring what you need. A Subway and nice drive-in are close by. Oh, the water is in me/my dogs opinion not for drinking. I wouldn't suggest weekends here unless you're into hearing every conversation your neighbors have or want to sleep in. Maybe the week days are better? They do allow leashed pets.

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

    Moose Lake City Park

    Will come again!

We stayed in site 27 and it was perfect for our truck, 40ft fifth wheel camper, and utv trailer. Its nice that the campground allows utv/atv access. If you are double pulling with a atv/utv trailer it is very challenging to use the dump station!!

Only downfall was all the goose poop and bugs, but thats to be expected on the lake. The weekend host and his wife were very nice people!

    Grand Casino RV Resort

    Rocking RockTember Music Festival

We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival. *Please note when there's an event, book early!! This RV Resort has 271 RV/Camping full hook up sites that include a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert. Guest Services were super friendly when we checked in, and they give you a pass card to enter & exit the Resort. There is 24 hour security, and shuttle bus service to the casino, although we enjoyed the 1/2 mile walk to the amphitheater. All the sites are back in only, and are a tight squeeze for bigger rigs. They enforced the quite hours well, and we got a good nights sleep. There's a heated outdoor pool, and small convince store in the guest services building. They have a pet walking area, and kennels if you want to spend time at the casino. The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!! If you like to golf, don't miss the 18 hole Grand National Golf Course next door. We enjoyed our stay, and will be back again.

Guide to Mora

Campgrounds near Mora, Minnesota sit at elevations ranging from 950-1,100 feet in the St. Croix River Valley. The region experiences distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F and winters dropping well below freezing. Most RV sites near Mora, Minnesota operate seasonally, typically closing between October and May due to Minnesota's harsh winter conditions.

What to do

River activities on the Rum River: At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, tubing is a popular summer activity. "Great tubing! They have a bus that takes you into town float back to the campground, love it," notes reviewer Tom D. The river features clean, sandy bottoms ideal for swimming and wading.

Winter ice fishing: Near Mora, Hidden Bay RV Resort transforms into an ice fishing destination during winter months. "I'm talking winter camping on the lake on the Ice in an 'Ice Castle' catching walleye. Had a great time fishing in the camper, well plowed roads," reports Michael V. The resort provides plowed access roads for winter camping on Knife Lake.

Golfing options: Campers seeking golfing opportunities can visit Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort where the golf course is undergoing redesign but remains playable. According to MickandKarla W., "The golf course was under new design construction due to adding additional sites, but it was playable." Seasonal guests receive complimentary weekend golfing as part of their package.

What campers like

Waterfront activities: Country Camping RV Park offers multiple water-based amenities including river access and modern pool facilities. "Floating on the Rum River, swimming pool with splash pad, little camp store, Golf cart rentals! Our grandkids love it too!" writes Carol H. The park combines natural water recreation with constructed water features for families.

Dog amenities: Banning RV Park and Campground offers specialized pet facilities. "Remarkably, in addition to playgrounds for children in different places around the campground, there was a huge dog walking and play area that was grassy and beautifully clean—and, of special interest, included a complete 'dog playground' with all the standards elements of a dog agility course!" notes Janet R. This represents an unusual investment in pet facilities rarely found at standard campgrounds.

Family recreation options: St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park provides multiple recreation options. "Pool, pool table, soccer table, mini golf, swing set, clubhouse, 3 wheel bike racing, and water balloons wars," lists Aaron L., making it particularly suitable for families with children of different ages. The campground includes both indoor and outdoor activity options for variable weather conditions.

What you should know

Water hookup challenges: At Banning RV Park and Campground, water access can require additional equipment and flexibility. "Water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots. Our water source ended up being 75' plus from our RV," reports Sam C. Campers should bring extra water hoses and Y-connectors when visiting this campground.

Seasonal population: Many campgrounds near Mora operate primarily as seasonal communities. At Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort, a reviewer noted, "Many of the seasonals also had ATVs, which they took off to ride the local trails." Boulder Woods RV Park similarly focuses on seasonal guests, with one reviewer noting it is "mostly seasonal camping but does have RV sites for overnight and weekly camping."

Site leveling considerations: St. Cloud Campground & RV Park receives mixed reviews about site conditions. "The site was level and easy to get into to," reports Beverly. However, several reviewers noted varying site quality across the property, with uneven sites requiring additional leveling equipment.

Tips for camping with families

Splash facilities for hot days: Families appreciate the water features at Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River. "We stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart," writes Beasty B. The heated pool extends swimming season earlier and later than natural water bodies.

Indoor activities for rainy days: St. Cloud Campground & RV Park provides indoor options for inclement weather. "Nice facilities including 2 bathroom facilities, playground, volleyball court, dog walking area, baseball field, a lodge with games and a store, and a hall where they hold bingo and other events," explains Elizabeth W. These facilities provide entertainment regardless of weather conditions.

Cabin options for non-RV families: Grand Casino RV Resort offers alternative accommodations. "They have a pet walking area, and kennels if you want to spend time at the casino," notes TyAnn J. These options allow non-RV owners to experience camping without purchasing equipment.

Tips from RVers

Back-in navigation: RV sites throughout the region predominantly feature back-in sites requiring careful maneuvering. As Crystal W. notes about Banning RV Park, "Our site was a fairly level pull through, full hook up site." Pull-through sites are less common but valued by RVers for easier parking.

Seasonal opening dates: Most motorhome camping areas near Mora operate seasonally. St. Cloud Campground operates from "May 1 to Oct 10," according to their listing information. Banning RV Park and Campground runs a similar schedule from "May 1 - Oct 31," making advance planning essential for spring and fall visits.

Water pressure considerations: Water system variations can affect RV water systems. "The water pressure was good, and we put on a reducer," notes MickandKarla W. about Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort. Pressure reducers protect RV plumbing from damage caused by high municipal water pressure.
